Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, please

New Uefa seeding rules this year mean that teams in Champions League Pot 2 have a higher aggregate coefficient value than teams in Pot 1. So Barcelona (we’re bound to avoid them now they look a little lost), Atletico, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and the Manchester twins. Only Sevilla and Porto would provide some comfort, the latter, in particular.

From Pot 1 we could do worse than our old friends Spartak Moscow (18 coefficient points), although Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica and Monaco would be decent draws.

As our primary objective is to remain in Europe after Christmas, the real battleground for Celtic is in Pot 3. I’d proverbially bite your hand off for Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, even Basel would be acceptable. Prefer to avoid the Italians of Napoli and Roma, as well as Liverpool.

Remember, don’t go booking flights before the final confirmation of dates is concluded.

Hospitality for four on Saturday: meals, bar, Directors’ Box tickets, the lot!!

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have offered four full hospitality tickets for Saturday’s game against St Johnstone. You and three friends could benefit from a stunning pre-match meal in the Walfrid, halftime refreshments, as well as a complimentary bar before and after the game.

You will also watch the game from the Directors’ Box. In collaboration with this raffle, we are raising money for Mary’s Meals. Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat each school day in a kitchen supported by Celtic Quick News readers. You can donate a minimum of £5 here.

To win, email your MyDonate confirmation to me, celticquicknews@gmail.com with the answer to this question IN THE SUBJECT LINE:

How many Champions League qualifying games have Celtic played in the Astana Arena before Tuesday?

Other emails with the correct answer will also be considered. Competition closes at 14:00 THIS AFTERNOON (i.e. minutes away from publication time of this article). You need to be able to collect your tickets in Glasgow on Friday. Please ensure you leave reliable contact information on your email. Good luck!

    Sipsini,

Will be up for that, dependant on dates, work committments, etc. If it’s a few days in Bayern (near Munchen, I believe ) I’ve already sorted out an interpreter :-)

Yhis geography confusion reminds me of the time when as a wee Bhoy, I asked my dad,

” Da, where are the Himalayas” ?

” Dad replied ” I don’t know son, better ask yer ma….as she puts everything away in this hoose”

PS spellcheck just tried to turn you into the Son of God. We of course know you’re just a very naughty Bhoy!!

  4. MAD MITCH.

IMO. ML has probably had much more playing time due to the Centre Back injury situation. Hopefully he will be rested and used more effectively.

  5. ADI_DASLER on 24TH AUGUST 2017 7:28 PM

Now that you mention it I think he has – but he’s still being shown on the BM Squad list?

  6. Turkeybhoy ( and MIT now that you have been grouped together :-) )

It might be that people consider this a `good group` ( as opposed to an `easy group`) because:

    a) We have avoided any ` Battle of Britain `nonsense ( Chelsea in particular);

    b) Anderlecht are viewed as a team we can beat to third place;

    c) We are not playing Barca again ! ;

    d) Travel does not present any problems.

Of course the possibility remains that the top two, if they hit form, could gub us but that is part of the nervous excitement that enables Celtic park to be the place it is on CL nights.

I am hoping to make it to Paisley when I am back in September … would be happy to say hello and buy you a beer if I do.

PS…. son of god and a naughty bhoy …. I think one can be both …. but, for Larsson’s sake, dont tell Petec I said that!

  10. My biggest disappointment about this draw is that there won’t be a fans’ café beside the Superstore to welcome our European guests.

  11. PRAECEPTA

Just remember seeing BMs celebrations at end of last season and Lham & he were presented wi flowers etc

    Still….they wont fancy it.

  12. Tony Tim and Prestonpans , the match sequence is usually set ie we should play 1 Away Bayern, 2 Home PSG, 3 Home Anderlecht. 4 Away Anderlecht ,5 Home Bayern , 6 Away PSG

The considerations of city clashes such as Madrid or Manchester means that there is a delay. Don’t think we would be affected by that. Last consideration is Tuesday or Wednesday.

    I cannot work him out.

He always appears very animated on the field — always involved.

Long periods during games he does not seem to want the ball or go forward.

But occasionally he he puts great passes in the IR channel and away we go.

He seems to spend most of the game running well within himself.

Then he charges into the middle and outstrips the TFOD2a defence to score in the 85th minute.

He is rated by his NT.

    Consequently something is amiss.

However we need more depth in both FB positions — but for me RB is more pressing.

If we fin another ON then we will take some stopping.

Why is Souness such a fanny. :___)

Tony Tim and Prestonpans , the match sequence is usually set

Fixture sequence depends on a number of factors – iTV , climate, country pairing etc.

    It’s official as I posted at 7:40

Three great games to anticipate at Celtic Park. I’m a bit concerned that we won’t be favoured to win a game until December. There may be some sore hits to absorb.

Anderlecht FC have been quiet since the draw, so far as I’ve read. We should match their volume.

  17. Taken from Filth Filth earlier BEFORE CL draw.

I don’t want them to get Madrid, despite the fact that they’d get a hammering home and away. Bernabeu is a fantastic stadium and shouldn’t be tarnished by their presence. Far better for us to grace it with our presence when we win 55… I’d hope they get Chelsea, Napoli and PSG, really make life difficult

There’s an unpleasant element within the Anderlecht support.

Security was very tight last time.

  26. CELTIC will kick-off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a glamour home clash against big-spending French side Paris Saint-Germain.

The Hoops will host PSG, who recently signed Brazilian star Neymar to break the world transfer record, on Tuesday, September 12.

After that, Brendan Rodgers’ side will travel to Belgium to take on Anderlecht on Wednesday, September 27.

The Scottish treble-winners will then face a double-header against Bayern Munich, facing the German giants away on Wednesday, October 18, before entertaining them in Paradise on Tuesday, October 31.

For the penultimate fixture in the section, the Celts will go head-to-head with PSG in the French capital on Wednesday, November 22. And the Hoops will round off Group B with a home match with Anderlecht on Tuesday, December 5.
