Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, please

New Uefa seeding rules this year mean that teams in Champions League Pot 2 have a higher aggregate coefficient value than teams in Pot 1. So Barcelona (we’re bound to avoid them now they look a little lost), Atletico, PSG, Borussia Dortmund and the Manchester twins. Only Sevilla and Porto would provide some comfort, the latter, in particular.

From Pot 1 we could do worse than our old friends Spartak Moscow (18 coefficient points), although Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica and Monaco would be decent draws.

As our primary objective is to remain in Europe after Christmas, the real battleground for Celtic is in Pot 3. I’d proverbially bite your hand off for Olympiakos, Anderlecht or Besiktas, even Basel would be acceptable. Prefer to avoid the Italians of Napoli and Roma, as well as Liverpool.

Remember, don’t go booking flights before the final confirmation of dates is concluded.

Hospitality for four on Saturday: meals, bar, Directors’ Box tickets, the lot!!

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have offered four full hospitality tickets for Saturday’s game against St Johnstone. You and three friends could benefit from a stunning pre-match meal in the Walfrid, halftime refreshments, as well as a complimentary bar before and after the game.

You will also watch the game from the Directors’ Box. In collaboration with this raffle, we are raising money for Mary’s Meals. Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat each school day in a kitchen supported by Celtic Quick News readers. You can donate a minimum of £5 here.

To win, email your MyDonate confirmation to me, celticquicknews@gmail.com with the answer to this question IN THE SUBJECT LINE:

How many Champions League qualifying games have Celtic played in the Astana Arena before Tuesday?

Other emails with the correct answer will also be considered. Competition closes at 14:00 THIS AFTERNOON (i.e. minutes away from publication time of this article). You need to be able to collect your tickets in Glasgow on Friday. Please ensure you leave reliable contact information on your email. Good luck!

Melbourne Mick, I’ll be over there for last 2 games. Mornington Celts better have a venue for those games or I’ll be raging. You ever seen Stan the Cat upset?

  2. A hotel, museum and superstore will generate enough profit to pay the wages of a few very good player year on year, will create100 or so jobs and will improve match day for supporters for an outlay of 20 million

Or that same outlay can go to shareholders cause it sure as he’ll won’t be spenthere on the team

It’s not rocket science, even if scottish football doubles television revenue as per reported our club need to find ways to maximise income

Success and increased revenue off the pitch will benefit on field results

Chelsea have drawn Qarabag in their Champions League draw…

If you’re wondering who they are…

They’re a shit team from London.

So why is it called Oktoberfest, not Septemberfest?

  7. TURKEYBHOY taking some flak in here tonight. Unjustifiably, IMHO. To me, PSG are favorites (US Sp.) in this group. They destroyed Barca in Paris last season, and subsequently were eliminated by a magnificent performance by Neymar, accompanied by some dodgy refereeing on a Bobby Madhun level.

What was their response? They bought Neymar for 200M, and, together with Dani Alvis, Edinson Cavani, Pastore and others, are ambitiously aiming at lifting the Champions League trophy.

They have a realistic shot, with many world class players. They are first up for us, and possibly too early to have a fit Boyata. They are like greyhounds up front, so task one for Brendan (and I’m sure he is already pondering this) is to stiffen our central defense. Knowing Neymar’s reputation for diving, both Brown and Lustig will have to be cautious in tackling him, and that’s only if they can catch up to him!

ON at £4.5 – thin gruel?

    SA retained – thin gruel?

PR a £12m MC player resigned – thin gruel?

RC JH and KB all porridgy purchases and more expensive than Willo Flood.

ML holds down RB at Celtic and Sweden and won’t be ‘backed up’ this season

I’d imagine, because AR will be used especially where necessary in the SPL

The back up striker won’t cost anywhere near, and won’t be as good as LG or MD

CG is as good as it gets, no clubs that play in wee diddy leagues like Scotland have two exceptional goalkeepers, or three outstanding strikers, which would mean two always out of BR side, kicking their heels on match day, because he plays one up front.

Definitely interested in a trip to Bayern Munchengladbach. Perfect timing for me.

Flights not too expensive right now – tempted to book as a message popped up saying “2110 people are looking at flights to Munich right now” :-)))

  12. Celtic trying to sign Paddy Roberts permanently, Manchester City aren’t overly keen but Celtic trying to negotiate, loan still seems likely.

Bum fight for 3rd. Bring it on.

  16. As to Filth Filth talking about Madrid a couple of points arise. It is a beautiful city steeped in first division Catholicism. Any perceived associations between thems ( bigoted, uncouth , hate-filled) and Real is simply self-delusion. Let them walk down Madrid main street singing FTP and we will see how far they get.

I once associated myself with Kim Basinger. Self delusion naturally !!!

Some posts alluding to recent utterances from Souness . My theory = that toupee glue he uses must be affecting his judgement.

  18. Before anyone gets any crazy ideas about having any sort of liking for our disgusting UCL opponents let me remind you:

    Anderlecht are match fixing cheats;

    PSG are industrial scale financial dopers;

FC Bayern of Munchen in Munich had German ownership rules bent just so that they could continue to be owned by evil corporations.

Need I say more? Into the fudging fudges…

  19. Oktoberfest traditionally starts in the third weekend in September and ends the first sunday of October. It began with the Royal Wedding on 12 October 1810. Crown Prince Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, was married to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810.
