On Griffiths

Leigh Griffiths problems are significant enough for him to be sent home from the club’s training camp.  While no charges have been made and none may be made, online speculation can jeopardise a successful prosecution.

Whatever you heard happened, this is not the place to repeat hearsay.  Notwithstanding that, it is likely the end of the road for Leigh.

  1. LETS ALL DO THE HUDDLE on 9TH JULY 2021 3:49 PM

“Ticket allocation has been split among Season Ticket holders and Club contractual obligations.”

    i.e.fat cats

i wonder what the ‘split’ will be

funny how celric never divulge that info for games

    ———————

For years and years, infact away at the beginning of the new cleltic park lounges, those who pay for the hospitality packages get priority on tickets, always been the way.

    M X 2 (abbreviations are us)

who do you know in the whole Celtic organisational structure and what insider information, or qualification have you, that means your right and they are all wrong ?

you failed to answer earlier questions for some reason.

    ————————

Let’s turn the question around – who at Celtic was qualified enough to decide that the folk currently in post were of the right quality and expertise?

Both Deila and Rodgers brought in their own fitness/sports science folk so you’d imagine those currently in post are club appointments in the main. I’d love to believe they are all top-notch hires by the guy who’s gone Liepzig but given Lennon wasn’t allowed to appoint his assistants I’d be dubious!

We really need either Ange or a proper DoF to build up the sports science/fitness/analytics side of the team over the next few months, and realistically we won’t see the benefits of that until the end of the year/next season.

The difference between us and some of the European teams with lower turnover who regularly beat us is that they have a strategy to maximise their resources to get the best team on the park. Whether that’s having a well-developed youth-system feeding the first team, a recruitment strategy that picks out gems to polish up, or tactics and team structures that get the best out of players within their financial wherewithal.

We don’t have any of that – we have a youth system that churns out a couple of gems a decade with everyone else being lower SPL level; have a buy gems strategy that has actually seen us make a very small profit (no more than £2m over 10 years); and don’t appear to bring in players who match the way we play (e.g. a striker who plays beat in a counter-attacking team in Klimala; a defender who plays best in a backs-to-the-wall team in Duffy- actually we sound like we recruited for a completely different style to what we actually play) so they never get picked.

  3. Go tell the Spartim on

Big Dom has put his reputation on the line with his assertion that everything we do needs to be world class (paraphrasing / poetic licence ), of course it’s not gonna happen over night but there’s no doubt we can do lots of things a lot better. Based on last year things appeared to take a down turn, of course it was all the fans fault. I like what I’ve seen of AP so far, I’d prefer if Kennedy moved on, for his sake and ours but it doesn’t need to be now, not until AP has made his mind up on how we improve in all aspects.

I’d feel better if we’d actually made some signings of first teamers, the longer we don’t the more we gamble with our chances of getting into CL next round, that has to be the short term aim, it buys us time and of course we’d gain further confidence in AP

Trying not to read anything into which players are or aren’t training with their current clubs

Let’s hope they are …. Just out of interest which teams in the SPL were fitter than us last year ?

*hate tae say it but sevco did

Playing devils advocate… we’re we fitter the season before and then it just dropped off a cliff

Remember years ago Huns got pumped 0-3 by Jambos at Ipox …. They showed torn faced Iain Ferguson doing shuttle runs between Hearts players working triangles around him …. The excuse for the Hun that they needed to up their fitness ,god forbid that they had been out thought by Hearts

Believe you’ve hit the nail on the head

I suspect there is still a feeling deep rooted in the club that we should field a bunch of tanner ba players , and this pervades our priorities….

    Still it won’t be dull

AN TEARMANN on 8TH JULY 2021 11:49 PM

There was a Wavelength on the old Radios “Athlone”. The building was not far from where I lived. It was put under Army Guard when the troubles broke out. Rumour has it that a nervous Private in the FCA (Home Guard) fired and killed a cow, when he didn’t get an answer to the “Who goes there?” question one a wet Tuesday night !

  7. Athlone Radio.

On 6 February 1933, Taoiseach Eamon de Valera officially opened the new high-powered RTÉ radio station located at Athlone in the centre of the country.

Speaking in Irish, the Taoiseach described the installation in symbolic terms, “Droichead nua Átha Luain is ea é, droichead idir na Gaeil in Éirinn agus Gaeil in imirce” “It is the new bridge of Athlone, a bridge between the Irish in Ireland and the emigrant Irish.”

It was to be ” the Wembley of the North ” – I would suspect it has one of the largest playing surfaces although they have brought in the sidelines.

  9. According to the usual sources, Starfelt and Kyle Edwards are in next week. Negotiations on personal terms under way.

  10. Kilbowie Park @ 6:53 pm

Kilbowie Park was the home ground for St Eunans primary school. Can you imagine 22 small boys playing on a full size pitch. I played inside right position and remember scoring a rare goal from a shot outside the box at the end in the picture. The Singers end I think it was known as.

  11. The year would have been 1960, my final year before going up to St Pats Dumbarton high school.

How much will that cost on yer new jersey?

  13. PERCEPTION & REALITY

    ———————————-

The imminent arrival at Ibrox of Real Madrid is PR coup by those running the show in Govan.

These people know what they’re doing – waiting for them to implode again, as is the wont of some us, is not going to happen any time soon….in my opinion.

Despite the horrendous financial figures that their club returns year after year, there appears to be unshakeable belief and a total disregard that the business appears unable to even break even. Indeed costs are not being cut, rather, the contrary is true.

    WHY IS THIS?

Getting the result(s) at any cost and under any circumstances is the modus operandi. The fact that there is no conventional bank facility in place, commercial deals have been at the lower end of the market, hardly a week goes by without feedback from a host of ongoing hostile legal actions and Covid is still reeking havoc, just seems like ‘water off a duck’s back’ to the Ibrox operation.

    WHY IS THIS?

They have succeeded in usurping us on the field of play and are now making positive headlines off it – whereas there is seemingly nothing but negativity coming out of Celtic Park, on all fronts.

    WHY IS THIS?

Is our financial probity and the commitment to “ensure the future of the club for future generations”, as desirable as it may be, now meaning that we are destined to ‘play second fiddle’ in the foreseeable future?JJ

    IS THIS TRUE?

Are our club officials of the view that after a period of unparalleled success, it is reasonable, under present conditions, to take time out to restructure the club and rebuild the team?

    IS THIS TRUE?

We have ‘fallen off the horse’ – the fans want us to dust ourselves down and get back on as soon as possible – perhaps the officers of the club do not see things in this way. A short-term strategy given the threadbare nature of the squad, would require serious money to be spent on transfer fees and wages. A medium-term strategy could involve Ange building a squad over a period of a few seasons and introducing young players, free-transfers, loans and a few £4/£5m signings.

    IS THIS TRUE?

Now that ‘all’ season tickets have apparently been sold, is it not incumbent on the new CEO to announce a detailed business plan for the football department?

    IS THIS REASONABLE?

As we all know, being second in Scotland is being nowhere – we are firmly second at the moment.

    FACT.

  14. “Despite the horrendous financial figures that their club returns year after year, there appears to be unshakeable belief and a total disregard that the business appears unable to even break even. Indeed costs are not being cut, rather, the contrary is true.

Well- it’s never been a demand from previous generations of supporters but let’s create a barrier where none need exist.
