On Griffiths

1015

Leigh Griffiths problems are significant enough for him to be sent home from the club’s training camp.  While no charges have been made and none may be made, online speculation can jeopardise a successful prosecution.

Whatever you heard happened, this is not the place to repeat hearsay.  Notwithstanding that, it is likely the end of the road for Leigh.

Time for Celtic to say all the best to Leigh. Next year will be a rebuild year so my expectations are low but hoping for better than last season. Could it have been worse. I have more than a few friends and family from Britain prime so wished them well in the euros but I think Italia will burst their bubble. Watching Sterling dive gives me Seville shivers. Let’s hope football goes Rome. Hail Hail

‘It is not his creed nor his nationality which counts, it’s the man himself.’

Many of us I’m sure regret missed opportunities in our lives, talent alone doesn’t secure success, neither is being a Celtic player allows his excusable behaviour……….Time is up Leigh

  3. quadrophenian on

Apathetic about who wins the final; Italy as a football entity long has form for on-field and off-field ruses (think Calciopoli most recently). Engerland’s Kane and Sterling now highly accomplished in the erse-oot-and-fall-on-contact free-kick feint.

Ah but for a Spain v Denmark final.

It may be entertaining but I’m way more attuned to whoever Ange’s very own, first recruit will be.

PS Saw a great film this week – The Keeper – true-ish story about ex German PoW Bert Trautmann who ended up a ManCity hero back wartime; worth a watch.

  4. Quadrophenian, if you’re looking for a game of football between countries that are paragons of virtue I doubt Spain would be one of them .

  5. Could it have been that giving leigh griffiths a contract may have been the cheapest option .The clear out and rebuild has not and will not happen , watching the game on Wednesday yes we have some good young players but they are not ready to to be thrown into the 1st team . We were on about a goalie , we still have no quality full backs . Central defence is another worry, I ll leave midfield as we could be ok in there , wingers a bit light there and now by the looks of it we need a striker too . All this going on while our leader groupies with the golfers at the big tournaments leaving that other mob to pick up CL entry next season and the riches they need to phoenix .

    BORG067 – yep it’s everywhere.

    What can I say…

Have a soft spot for Espana; I blame Majorca holidays, endless sun and cheap coldies.

Hoped to retire there b4 Oz showed more options.

Just about every sport tarnished by corruption these days ,even cricket for goodness sake!

Sometimes, even though it can be difficult, we have to get past it and just enjoy the spectacle.

Didn’t realise you were in OZ. It’s tough for you guys , either early starts or late nights for watching football.

    In a nutshell, yes.

I welcomed LG’s contract extension for the same reason I preferred NFL to remain in post, ie no faith that the people calling the shots would, or wanted to, employ anyone better.

I’d love to know what their real agenda is. I have my suspicions, but I’m not quite paranoid enough to think they could be true.

As frustrated as I am about the lack of signing so far, I dont think throwing in the towel is in my make up.

There are a lot of areas that need improved in our team but things can change very quickly in football.

The quickest way to improve our team based on current squad is to get a 1st pick centreback, rightback and left winger in the door asap. All with pace, power, strength and work rate.

Throw boli into that lot at and there is instant improvement in terms of much needed width. With the return of forrest adding more pace again.

After that look to improve other areas I.e. goalkeeper, striker another centreback, back up right winger etcas players move on.

The champions league qualifiers seems very hopeful indeed but the league is far from a given for sevco.

  10. A good friend of mine is a diehard Baggies supporter. I also keep an eye on them as my wife is a West Brom girl born and bred and a regular at their games when they had Cyril Regis et al playing for them.

He tells me that Kyle Edwards is a really exciting young winger who would fit really well to a high energy, high press game which would appear to be our plan for next season. For a £300K training fee it’s a no brainer. Particularly when you look at Mikey Johnson’s injury record. He was very sorry to see him go.

As for Leigh Griffiths, it used to be innocent until found guilty, I’ll reserve judgement until the facts are known.

  11. ERNIE LYNCH on 9TH JULY 2021 9:49 AM

Could it be that based on the amount of players who have left or are leaving it made perfect sense to give him a 1 year contract. He did have a good goal to game ratio despite the concerns held about him.

Think the pf and the courts should decide if there was any criminality rather than people on a football forum. Once that has been decided celtic can take appropriate steps.

Thanks for the reply , after 63years following the hoops I don’t think I will be throwing in the towel pal , I have seen worse Celtic teams believe me , worse but triers unlike some in our present lot . I do however agree with most of your points except boli , imho he is a terrible player and that is not through his spanish trip fiasco , But let’s hope we see quality added to the positions we urgently need them HH

The West Brom forums, like all football forums, the consensus of posters view on any transfer to us is that it’s good riddance, of course that could well be the “empty vessels make the most sound” type of posters, but for every ying there’ll be a yang

  14. Look, I’m well aware that players don’t improve in their absence and I’m not saying he’s the answer but would we not have been better off giving Bayo a clean slate than resigning Griff?

On or off the pitch – Griff isn’t of the standard we should be looking for in terms of professionalism.

Good for you, I was merely pointing out that others have a different view (skewed by…… god knows, some people are glass half empty), doesn’t matter what anyone has done at other clubs it’s what they do at ours that’ll count.

I’ll be honest and say it doesn’t excite me, but I’ve not seen enough of him to form any view or to have noticed him, but then they were fighting relegation, and lost, all season.

  16. Dont know if anyone remembers my post from last year going on about,Alberth Ellis. He had just run riot against Zlatans Galacticos in the States.I watch a lot of American football, strange hours, and he was always a standout.Lightning quick, great finisher. We could have had him for around 3 million,Izzy had sold him on Celtic, but we dithered for ages, and he went to Portugal. Some reports now linking him with us again, for around 7 million !!!!!!!!!.

What a great scouting system we had in place.

  17. Begging Paul’s indulgence- I hope to re-print this invite in the run up to the SPFL starting- Still looking to see if someone wishes to undertake the fund raising aspect for it:-

I have registered a closed pool on the Superbru site, which is a Score Predictor game for the SPFL fixtures in 2021/22.

This could be used as a fund raising medium if someone is willing to take on the burden of setting up a pay-in site and setting the prize money and charity donations percentages, or it could be used as a bit of fun for bragging rights.

Either way, the site exists and might replace the much-missed Jobo competition of last year.

    The site is http://www.superbru.com

and the code for joining is roomuser

Please use your CQN or Sentinel log in name for identification. First fixture is 31st July and your predictions have to be in before kick off on the day. If you fail to make a pick you get the default pick, so you get to play even if you forget.

Join CQN Sentinels, my Scottish Premiership league on Superbru! You can find my pool here:

    https://www.superbru.com/scottishpremiership/pool.php?p=12367961

or by downloading the Superbru app and searching for the pool with code:

  18. I’m not understanding all the goodbye and good luck comments mind you this is Celticfakenews. It should be here’s your termination notice, you have 15 minutes to clear your belongings from the premises and we will be cooperating without hesitation with any criminal enquiries.

  19. Elsewhere on the CQN website, two of the most recent headlines are:

CELTIC’S £3.5m MISFIT ON TARGET AGAIN

    &

2 MILLION FLOP HEADS FOR EXIT.

    – – – – –

Bayo and Klimala, a flop and a misfit? Or two players who had real potential and were let badly down by the mngmt team? Who were not given proper coaching or a proper chance.

  20. DENIABHOY

Good post and I’m sure we could add to that list players similarly treated in the last few years.

    Scandalous in my view.

  21. The Battered Bunnet on

At the start of last season we had…

    Edouard

    Griffiths

    Ayeti

    Bayo

    Klimala

    Afolabi

…all available to play at centre forward.

Edouard is most likely for the off. Griffiths is papped. Bayo is going. Klimala is gone. Afolabi hasn’t been.

That leaves Ajeti, who contributed 6 goals in 29 positively unconvincing appearances last season, failing which Afolabi who managed 3 in 19 for Dundee on loan last term.

Looking at that list, bar Edouard I’d like to know who’s responsible for signing our forwards, and politely ask that someone else is given the job asap.

  22. Just looking at some worrying CL qualifying scores frm Wednesday

Norwegian champs Bodo Glimt lost at home to Legia

Zagreb had a narrow 3:2 home win vs Icelanders Valur

Ludogorets (Bulgaria) narrowly beat a Belarussian team at home

Malmo had a 1:0 home win versus Latvain opposition

I cannot imagine that we will be strong favourites versus the Danish Champs but it looks like there has been a levelling off at the cannon fodder level

SFTB – re: the CL qualifier results

While I’m familiar with the bigger name clubs, admittedly, I’m not close to the form guides.

That said – could these be down, in large parts, to rustiness among players?

If we get 2 million for Bayo…..wow…….Afalobi is terrible….grif looks like a goner …..Eddie??….at this rate we might have to bite the bullet and keep him
