On Griffiths

Leigh Griffiths problems are significant enough for him to be sent home from the club’s training camp.  While no charges have been made and none may be made, online speculation can jeopardise a successful prosecution.

Whatever you heard happened, this is not the place to repeat hearsay.  Notwithstanding that, it is likely the end of the road for Leigh.

  1. I said a while back that Sergio Ramos was available for free, pie in the sky, of course it is, he has just joined PSG, but we are it seems as has been said by a few on here and elsewhere that we are in “talks” to bring people in, people who may or may not cut the mustard and could cost us millions.

I digress, SR was available on a freebie, all we had to do was ask him, he of course would have said no, but for a season the money he would have cost would have paid itself in merchandise alone, but I will bet my grandweans lives that we never even asked, the question is why not, we see ourselves as a CL club don’t we, well we should act like one, we did for a time in the past and recent past, it’s what is keeping us afloat presently, there are lessons to be learned, it seems that we ain’t paying heed.

Interesting stuff Corky, can you enlighten me and the blog when Green became the perceived Irish colour instead of the blue.

I remember Cork Hibs well. I was supporting my beloved Athlone Town in the early 70’s.

Did Wiggy Wiggington and Dave Baccuzi play for them ?

George Best played with Cork Celtic if memory serves me correctly.

I had a day in Athlone 2 years ago. Fascinating place, loved it.

  5. Not been on for a while. Random thoughts on recent events.

Sterling dived. Never a penalty. VAR is not fit for purpose.

Two balls on the pitch. The laws of the game say the game should not be stopped if it would cause confusion. It wouldn’t and didn’t. No issue with play on.

Celtic friendly. Enjoyed what I could see whilst working at the same time. Lots of good sharp passing in triangles. Though 90% was in the Celtic defensive area. Thought Shaw and Hjelde looked good. Moffat will be worth watching. Eddie ran about properly, looking interested.

Where was Mikey Johnston? Tom Rogic? Not injured surely?

  6. Rocco Vata, son of Celtic cult hero Rudi, signs professional terms with the Bhoys

Love that place, long gone from it but still get home from time to time.

I fell in love with Celtic there.

1968 some local men organised a showing of the History of Glasgow Celtic on a borrowed projector in the Prince of Wales hotel.

Myself and my pal paid the 6d entrance and were kindly sat on the floor up front by the adults.

There was no going back. Hooked for life.

Over 50 years ago and still supporting them!

My childhood fear was that they’d draw Athlone Town in a European competition, (quite possible back then), never could figure out who I’d shout for. I suspect the Town :)

  9. Having lapped the old town centre, I went from the castle to St Peters and St Pauls, stunning stained glass,

also a plaque on a wall for a family who went on the titanic ,

i am going back when allowed.

Nice to hear you are from Athlone, what a great place it is. I went there about six years ago. Had a week off work and was looking for somewhere different to go. Got the old map of Ireland out and picked Athlone out as it looked to be in the centre of the country. Plane to Dublin then a bus to the town. It was a pleasure to see the city, seemed like real Ireland. Had a double take when I saw the statue of the IRA volunteers in town. Caught a train out to Athenry to see the fields as well.

  15. A year ago today, I posted ref my concerns for the coming season. I was dismissed as a naysayer. A hun and a pantywetter.

    Many had similar concerns.

CQN was almost unique in its stoic defense of our position.

For anyone who wasn’t paying attention, Celtic would go on to finish 2nd in the league. Some 25 points, and an equal number of goals, behind the eventual winners.

Coming from 4 consecutive seasons of domination, it was a catastrophe.

    Where are we today?

What do the stats tell us?

Are we weaker than we were 12 months ago?

    Do we care?

Are we about to sleepwalk into a similar season?

Appreciate the reply, though no idea what you mean.

Why reference that which has gone before?

We’re apparently up shit creak and you want to reminisce about a paddle der hun was handed to last season?

Grow a set and start looking forward or I’ll play some tunes that’ll make you back alright.

  19. Sionnaigh

I like your tunes. Genuinely, they are grand.

Creeks and paddles, I have no interest in.

As things stand, as a Celtic fan and shareholder, I believe we will finish 2nd in the league this season. That will disappoint me.

I see no evidence to suggest otherwise.

  20. UJ

I apologise. What I should have said, in a more respectful manner, is that I hope you’re wrong about this season ahead even though last season was an obvious premeditated disaster.

And I’m all out of tunes.
