“My father wasn’t at all keen on me becoming a Rangers supporter. He was a Glasgow policeman and because of that he resented the whole football scene in Glasgow. ‘He was actually very anti-football. When we were kids growing up he was very vocal on his dislike of the bigotry in football. The police in Glasgow at that time saw it as a basis for thuggery.
“My father took me to that first game reluctantly…”
Dave King, shooting the breeze with the Daily Mail in March last year.
“Like all of you who read this letter, I have always taken pride in being a Rangers supporter. It is something I inherited from my father who, in turn, inherited the legacy from my grandfather. This is what Rangers fans do. We pass on our pride and belief in Rangers to our children.”
Dave King’s letter to the season ticket marketing database last week.
One of the two statements is probably true, although with Dave, who knows? South African judge, Brian Southwood, referred to King as a “glib and shameless liar”. Despite this, the SFA decided he was an appropriate person to run a football club, free to send out messages like this, with the objective of relieving fans of an average of £411 per person. This is what happens when you enable people already branded a shameless liar, what do you expect?
I hope the SFA and Trading Standards are alerted to what’s going on, don’t leave it until it’s too late.
I’m waiting for new of the Ben Nevis Huddle, which should have taken place at the peak of the mountain in the last hour. Over 80 people set out on the climb this morning to raise funds for the Celtic Foundation – to feed the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless and help others in need.
It’s a magnificent Celtic effort. My wee brother’s up there, you can give his fundraising a pound or two here. Thank you.

You’ll need to be quick to beat my Dad to the first round.
He likes to sit back and relax, having done his bit. Till the next time!
Hope you enjoy the day, seems they all did a year ago. My absence being incidental,of course…

If I recall correctly while he was an excellent all rounder, boxing was his speciality.
I believe that his son may also have been a journalist.

Magic, indeed. The kinda day that you can only have wi yer family or fellow Tims.
Grateful for every minute of both.
Last night’s game
Remembering a superb holiday summer of ’88 in Los Christianos cheering on Ireland in Euros
Spent a good few nights in Brendan O’Hara’ MP wee bar – great times.
Watching the Irish lads at the final whistle and got to thinking, which one of yous (sic) is going to return the Gary Mackay favour versus Bulgaria in 87?
Watched that goal it in Reflections Bar, Inverness and almost put my back out jumping up and down. It was so unexpected and helped Ireland get to Germany 88
I had been with my dad at the Scotland v Ireland game, we met up with Dallas Dallas in Mickey Joe’s before and after. suppose looking back We Realised then that Scotland would miss out, but happy, or at least consoled, that Ireland were still in with a shout.
So Ireland are due us a wee favour versus Poland in the last game if the group.
Might even plan a wee trip up to Inversneck to watch it with some old chums.
You canny beat nostalgia …or Karma :-)

Loved the short time spent in the company of the four of your family that day and the following Saturday at the Kano do. Blessed.
Have an eye infection, side of face been killing me for days ,6 pain killers today…no fekn effect……..One bottle of Birra Morreti later..no pain.
GET THIS STUFF ON THE NHS!!
Mr pastry,
I believe that we are deluding ourselves to say we are punching above our weight. We make excuses about the richness of the English leagues and sure it’s a battle for us. However if we compare ourselves to say Dutch or Portuguese leagues we are comparable and by comparison we are doing nowhere near as good as we should.
And there is a simple reason for that. The club are only interested in money and money for its own sake. We do not build teams we buy players to sell them. We are saving money up but for what?
That said we are in for a fascinating close season and CL qualifiers. As much as I was critical of Ronny he has said he is building a team. And has stuck to that. Again while critical of the money spinning St Mirren trio of games (all this guff about repairs at CP is nonsense). At least we are playing Harlem globetrotters this year. However if we sell big Virgil we will know the score and who is in charge of the footballing decisions.
Why criticise PL? Dos he is holding us back on the pitch that’s why.
And all this guff about the most ethical club in the world? Seriously? We really are deluding ourselves of we think that aren’t we?

You know the pain killer I endorse. The only thing that works for my pain. Mental and physical.

Galway v Mayo….11 seconds in and we have the first square go….nice.
dd,
16 is in the oul USA.
He’s due back this week.
I would say the whiskey has taken a fair hammering!
So I hear some lower league Scottish club is about to sign a lower league English manager. Apparently this is big news.
Mind you, his name is a gift for headline writers – especially at a club that’s never got any bread …

Great nite mate
One of our flatmates was from Croydon – she came on hols with us to los Cristianos
The night of the England game, we gave her a white T shirt to wear (c”mon engerluund etc)
Marcas Og of this parish had an orange shirt and I wore a green one.
During the nite lots of fotos taken, with wee Jill from Croydon in centre – always me on her right and Marcas on her left.
Back home fotos developed and a behold perfect tricolour in every one.
Magical memories

I hear you
This close sesson has the makings of one of the most exciting and fulfilling in a loooong time.
There was much falling out on here last summer. It was not nice.
Sense you are feeling a wee bit of the positive vibes?
Agree if VVD sold before August that things could gan awry
TCR
He recognised your full name. Similar friends methinks. :))
Talking about Bankies.
Has anyone seen or heard from kilbowiekelt?
Haven’t seen him post on here for yonks.
The Huns love to jump in with two feet every time, McCoist, McCall, Whyte, Green, Sleazdales, Ashley and now Warburton is the guy who’s going to put them on top, forget it zombies it’s over.
Forever in our shadow, THEN,NOW,FOREVER
dd,
What age is he?
saltires en sevilla…….talking aboot T shirts,I was wearing
the Wildcat theatre centenary one that night, after the double
season I thought we had nothing but great times ahead,Mrs
Nye was pregnant with our first and all was jolly, little did
I know, both myself and Celtic had some hard year’s ahead,
happy carefree days.
TCR
Similar age to me. Half of Clydebank have your surname though! :)))

Not surprised that we are linked with another winger in Castlemilk’s son, Ikechi Anya.
If we are after Anya and assuming VVD goes, it might seem the plan is to play
Charlie Mulgrew with Dedryk Boyata hopefully at least beyond the CL qualifiers. I’m sure the prospective departure will be delayed till August.
I’d rather we were looking for another quality CB, who knows maybe we are.
Our budget won’t be so restricted and strengthening all areas is the priority, we are after all a big buying club considering our very meagre resources.
TCR
An Tearman is in contact with Kilbowie Kelt. All fine.
Ahem…..jumped in with both feet
If we get a big offer for VD before the qualifiers, we will sell. Unfortunately.
TBB –
Loved the golf post, haven’t played in 5 but you almost had me dusting down the old Slazenger Ambassadors.
