Operation relieve the gullible of £411 each underway

“My father wasn’t at all keen on me becoming a Rangers supporter.  He was a Glasgow policeman and because of that he resented the whole football scene in Glasgow.  ‘He was actually very anti-football.  When we were kids growing up he was very vocal on his dislike of the bigotry in football.  The police in Glasgow at that time saw it as a basis for thuggery.

“My father took me to that first game reluctantly…”

Dave King, shooting the breeze with the Daily Mail in March last year.

“Like all of you who read this letter, I have always taken pride in being a Rangers supporter. It is something I inherited from my father who, in turn, inherited the legacy from my grandfather. This is what Rangers fans do. We pass on our pride and belief in Rangers to our children.”

Dave King’s letter to the season ticket marketing database last week.

One of the two statements is probably true, although with Dave, who knows?  South African judge, Brian Southwood, referred to King as a “glib and shameless liar”.  Despite this, the SFA decided he was an appropriate person to run a football club, free to send out messages like this, with the objective of relieving fans of an average of £411 per person.  This is what happens when you enable people already branded a shameless liar, what do you expect?

I hope the SFA and Trading Standards are alerted to what’s going on, don’t leave it until it’s too late.

I’m waiting for new of the Ben Nevis Huddle, which should have taken place at the peak of the mountain in the last hour.  Over 80 people set out on the climb this morning to raise funds for the Celtic Foundation – to feed the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless and help others in need.

It’s a magnificent Celtic effort.  My wee brother’s up there, you can give his fundraising a pound or two here.  Thank you.

Really enjoyed his posts regarding the auld Clydebank days of yore.

Donegal has a lot to answer for regarding surnames!

Have a young lad from Connemara staying with us for the weekend.

His knowledge of the Celts is amazing.

Great to here that there is a good wee Celtic presence in the heart of the Gaeltacht in Galway.

*send him over tae Dumbarton, hauf of Clifden are living there. Walked through Clifden with Mrs. TT one day and she said the names on the store fronts reminded her of the class registers at Notre Dame.

  5. The club was nae dough get their man ;)

Yeasterdays outfit think they’re on a Roll and will rise again.

They’ve got the wow factor now

    Warburton Orangutan Weirdo !

It will never last lol Watford will come calling in three weeks ;)

  6. bournesouprecipe on

Warburton and Weir a pair of loafers replacing the brogues.

McCall got his passage to Sevco but he hadn’t the necessary miracle up his sleeve, so his services including appearing to throw the SC game when he was the Motherwell supremo , are no longer required.

Oh dream of dreams, oh joy of joy, Sevco stuck in the lower league, no money, no team and another unreal Rainjurs man, partnered by well and truly h88 skelped weiry Dave.

    tontine tim,

    That’s right mate.

Big population from the west settled in Dumbarton.

    Why was that?

Heard something in the past about a lot of them working on dams, waterworks etc in the West Highlands?

You make comparisons with Dutch clubs.

Ajax are pretty much operating on same basis as Celtic and until recently pretty much yo yo’d between CL and non CL appearances and were of Group standard not last 16.

If you operate to a develop and sell model that is an inevitable consequence of such a model with dips occurring when there is too much change as happened when Lenny left.

The trick is to reduce the amount of change were possible or prepare for it as best possible. Signing a replacement for De Nayer looks like an attempt at doing that. So too does the mid season signings of Armstrong and GMS. Sure mistakes were made but we seem to be learning from them.

Not every signing works but it looks to me that we are getting more right than wrong.

It is easy to criticise and blame without having an alternative to put forward and removing PL for example is not an alternative, it is a rearranging deck chairs job.

What I would be interested in is how you think we should operate as a club in the ice berg waters we are forced to sail in.

With regard to ethics no club is perfect but in an ethical club league I think Celtic are title challengers.

Don’t take my word for it.

Historically one of the reasons for Clifden presence in Dumbarton is that the shipbuilder Denny had a home in Galway and used the annual holiday there as a kind of recruiting fair.

  10. Tricoloured Ribbon on

Is it not widely accepted that the likes of Pukki and Balde were not managerial signings?

Park and Lawwell must have been the two involved then.

I think neganon’s post is on the button to be honest.

    quonno,

I smiled when I read that.

Most big clubs sign players via more than one source.

Celtic are no different in this respect.

p.s. Neil Lennon reported to want Teemu Pukki at Bolton

    Lucky Baile Atha Cliath Tim!

Be careful of what you wish for. By the end of next season you might be sick of me:)

*interesting, my paternal granny came fae there as did Mrs. TT’s maternal side of the family…same name tae !!!!!!!

The manager of the UTR (dye works) in the Vale had a holiday home in Donegal. The workforce in the UTR was mainly women, man only did the maintenance work, finding it difficult tae recruit local women and noticing that Irish lassies tended tae marry late in life he requested the local priest out in Donegal to assist him in recruiting some of his parishioners. Hence all the Donegalites oot the Renton and Vale.

    TR.

Yes, absolutely that’s the way it works at Celtic.

These guys were run past Neil Lennon unfortunately he said, yes.

To extend your point I actually believe the three amidos, Balde, Pukki, and Boeriggter were why PL and NFL etc all felt out near the end of the season, before last.

    Just my opinion.

    tontine tim,

    Great stuff mate.

I mentioned before my da captained Tontine Hibs and the Renton Guild.

Good points well made, I suspect they wouldn’t cut much ice with the resident carping one.

    FFin Warburton and Weir:

“Excellent work (again) from Mr King.

    He is the real deal.”

    ——

“May these past few seasons be nothing more than a hiccup.”

    ——

” Very Well done DK & Board – really appreciate your forward thinking and positive actions”

    ——

“It was important for them to put their balls on the table as much as anything.”

    ——

“I fully expect an entire improvement on the playing front immediately.”

    ——

“I hoped we never took someone because he had been a Ranger however Davie Weir being the assistant/coach to Warburton is a good choice as I no doubt believe he will do the right thing for The Rangers. He definitely has the right work ethos. A hard working dedicated loyal man. The Rangers/Protestant way.”

    ——

“Would be absolutely delighted if we get W&W it shows that the board are serious about rebuilding the club and to prize away one of England’s brightest young managers just shows how big our club still is and still has pulling power no matter what division”

    ——

“if MW is signing a 3 year deal are you telling me he will leave without wanting to top the SPFL ?

Surely the target MUST be to top the SPFL within his tenure ?

I’m sure we will now romp the championship, get close in year two and go for it year three, remember the opposition teams in the rest of the SPFL are dross ,it wont take much to topple Timmy .

    Let the revolution begin”

  21. FF have them signing Danny Wilson, Alan Mcgregor and bring back Lewis Messi from Brentford.

    bsr,

I think it’s changing with Ronny though.

Only for utter corruption the man would have won the Treble with a very limited budget.

What players have been forced on him?

Ya cheeky bass!! Have never done anyone ….. apart from charging Boundary to

A 52 year old nobody is one of England’s brightest young managers????

They have lost it Monaghan. :)

  25. Auldheid

Our signing policy since Ronny has arrived seems to have changed

Yes success in January 15 with Armstrong and McKay Steven

Let’s look the summer of 14

Gordon, yes (and for free) Denayer on Loan a player Ronny knew and wanted

    Let’s look at our Scouting

Wakaso, Tonev, Berget all failed ( all reported previous targets)

    Scepovic, still to prove himself

    So the previous season

    Balde, Pukki, Boerrigter

    Abysmal failure

Only VVD from then worked, and now also Bitton from Jan 14,

I think our scouting or recruitment has been a major hit or more often than Not a huge Miss, a relatively poor success rate, and there is numerous other players I could mention

Wanyama is the exception, ( hooper was a Parker recommendation and Forster was Thomson, from what I heard, could be wrong mind)

    Hail Hail
