Operation relieve the gullible of £411 each underway

“My father wasn’t at all keen on me becoming a Rangers supporter.  He was a Glasgow policeman and because of that he resented the whole football scene in Glasgow.  ‘He was actually very anti-football.  When we were kids growing up he was very vocal on his dislike of the bigotry in football.  The police in Glasgow at that time saw it as a basis for thuggery.

“My father took me to that first game reluctantly…”

Dave King, shooting the breeze with the Daily Mail in March last year.

“Like all of you who read this letter, I have always taken pride in being a Rangers supporter. It is something I inherited from my father who, in turn, inherited the legacy from my grandfather. This is what Rangers fans do. We pass on our pride and belief in Rangers to our children.”

Dave King’s letter to the season ticket marketing database last week.

One of the two statements is probably true, although with Dave, who knows?  South African judge, Brian Southwood, referred to King as a “glib and shameless liar”.  Despite this, the SFA decided he was an appropriate person to run a football club, free to send out messages like this, with the objective of relieving fans of an average of £411 per person.  This is what happens when you enable people already branded a shameless liar, what do you expect?

I hope the SFA and Trading Standards are alerted to what’s going on, don’t leave it until it’s too late.

I’m waiting for new of the Ben Nevis Huddle, which should have taken place at the peak of the mountain in the last hour.  Over 80 people set out on the climb this morning to raise funds for the Celtic Foundation – to feed the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless and help others in need.

It’s a magnificent Celtic effort.  My wee brother’s up there, you can give his fundraising a pound or two here.  Thank you.

Most big clubs sign players via more than one source.

Celtic are no different in this respect.

p.s. Neil Lennon reported to want Teemu Pukki at Bolton

If trues then the ole “puppet strings” we hear about on CQN must be some length – all the way from G40, down the M6 to the land that time forgot… :-)

  2. Would be absolutely delighted if we get W&W it shows that the board are serious about rebuilding the club and to prize away one of England’s brightest young managers just shows how big our club still is and still has pulling power no matter what division From FF.

I thought he was without a club so couldn’t be prized away from anything. Totally deluded.

  3. I’m watching Russia v. Austria. The game in Moscow, on Russia half. Very surprised how this game goes. Austria missed few few good chances. Now they lead 1:0 after Janko’s overhead kick.

  4. Good evening friends. Tonight I’ll be mostly supporting Slovenia Russia and Sweden.

    Hope so.

I think Deila is his own man, and people forget that NFL was a brand new young manager much more likely to be swayed, by concensus of scouts?.

Only time will tell, but Celtic have bought most of our good players, including NFL’s Stefan Johansen, and ever presents like Izzaguire.

They cannot all be diamonds in the difficult price range we’re restricted to.

    tontine tim,

    That’s right mate.

Big population from the west settled in Dumbarton.

    Why was that?

Heard something in the past about a lot of them working on dams, waterworks etc in the West Highlands?

Don’t take my word for it.

Historically one of the reasons for Clifden presence in Dumbarton is that the shipbuilder Denny had a home in Galway and used the annual holiday there as a kind of recruiting fair.,

    —///—///—///

Interesting why some areas from Ireland settled in specific areas of Scotland.

If you lived on the Southside you could believe that every tim in Scotland came from Donegal.

That is far from the case. But shhhhh don’t tell the Sons ( either group…)

Gilford Mill on the Bann, County Down attracted large numbers of young people from across Ulster to work the new mills at the transition of the proto-industrial period. Large numbers of semi-skilled and skilled workers were encouraged to move to Johnstone, Scotland to work the new mills on the River Cart (black) by the Quaker owners. Many also settled in Paisley and Saint Mirren still have a significant proportion of fans who are Irish Catholic ( no seriously..)

The Irish surnames in West Renfrewshire where I grew up were from immigration in late 1700 to early 1800 and were different from the surnames of the Sooside of Glasgow. As an adult living in Strathbungo, Crosshill & Giffnock, it seemed to me that settlement of Irish was much later -from great famine period certainly, but probably post-famine and into the 20th century as Irish accents were still prevalent.

By the time my Irish in-laws had arrived in Scotland my own family were into their fourth generation. Still Irish, devout Catholic, but with a different perspective and view of the ‘establishment’.

I know that City Centre and East and North immigration from Ireland was earlier. Again, those names seemed different from the Southside.

    The emigration kept on going.

By the end of the American Civil War the Yanks had stopped importing finished manufactured goods from Europe and the factory owners in Europe, desperate to hold onto market share, moved their operations to New England and beyond, encouraging their Irish/Scottish workers to move across the Atlantic to train the locals.

There are many Irish Americans who don’t realise that their Irish connection is via Scotland. The direct cost to sail to America was high and some were required to spend a generation period in Scotland (building the country…as Dushanbe would remind us) earning the fare to US. That route was was quite common.

Some left and tried their luck and some remained in Scotland.

An early example of Globalisation, but not the earliest.

We Irish in Scotland are a very mixed bag and opinions and views now reflect

the variety of individual & family experiences. I see a difference in the Celtic fans I meet. Can usually how they will interact by their generational emigration/immigration.

    Whoever ye are.

Isn’t it grand to be a Celt!?

“Now, to my knowledge…the ‘only’ time that Celtic FC have said anything about this OBAFA-issue was when…SB-renewal time was on the horizon?!?!

    Hmmmm….?…..aye.

    Petition-peddlers….please take note!!!!”

Your “knowledge” is usually just whatever point you want to make and then you’ll make the facts fit. I doubt the “petition-peddlers”, those double-barreled cousins to your bead-rattlers, need to worry about matching your levels of accuracy.

We do not renew our SBs in November

The MSM keep printing that there are many EPL clubs wanting to sign VVD if that is the case Celtic should put a price on his head of 15 million and let these clubs confirm there interest.Ronny should be given 5 million to find a replacement who wants to play for the hoops it is better in my opinion to sign a new player who wants to be at Parkhead than keep an unhappy player despite how good he may be.Some may be saying we wont get that kind of money for him but I disagree EPL Clubs are awash with money and if they want the player they will pay.H.H.

Remember how the conversation went down at Greenock?

On the new improved Celtic scouting/ signing policy:

The most promising young player in Scotland at his young age is captain of the The Rangers side.

Rather than let him develop at a diddy club Celtic will this week “swoop” for the player, paying a sizeable proportion of the midweek legal expenses incurred.

This is regarded as money very well spent. You’ll read about this in the papers over the next week or so. The boy’s a Bhoy btw but not that that matters.

McCall got his passage to Sevco but he hadn’t the necessary miracle up his sleeve, so his services including appearing to throw the SC game when he was the Motherwell supremo , are no longer required.

The wonderful irony is that McCall would have been better placed to deliver that miracle had he stayed at Motherwell. (The glee of that one hasn’t worn off yet)

Saltires, I hope you are well.

It would have been some experience for Ciaran training with those clubs down the road.

The Eire England game in 1988 was a great day. Heraghty’s had no all day Sunday licence so we watched it at Clemenza’s flat. Great result and many cans and pints of swallay were taken during and after the game. Heraghty’s was at its best that night.

Regarding the emigration to the USA via Scotland. A passage your Uncle Jim took if I’m correct.

Your gran and two of her brothers moved to the States, at separate times, with your gran returning home via London and with your Grandad, so my dad told me.

Check out etims twitter, they have some tweets about how Ronny’s plans for the players from academy to development squad. Aidan Nesbitt gets a mention.

Ronny apparently wants all the players to train together for a week or two with first team squad then train with away from them.

The juvenile and youth team players are seemingly well impressed with Ronny’s plans.

  16. The Pieman didn’t work out for them so they’ve gone for the Breadman instead.

Who next? Terry Butcher would be the obvious choice, Mind you Micky Mellon and Michael Appleton are both managing in England if they fancy a fruit based alternative.
