Our midfield squad shuffle. Leigh, the panto misfit

550

I know what you are thinking, Ewan Henderson looked the part.  Even more so than his brother, Liam, who also left Celtic for a loan spell at Hibs, before moving to Italy.  That laser-precise pass at Tynecastle which set Celtic on their way to an important victory when Neil Lennon picked up the pieces left by Brendan Rodgers pointed to riches ahead.

Unlike many apparent teenage prodigies, Ewan never disappointed, trouble was, he did not play often enough to disappoint.  All we know for sure is that Lennon did not rely on him and after six months at Lennoxtown, Ange Postecoglou has moved him on.

Hibs, managed by Shaun Maloney, who worked with the player as a Celtic youth coach, is a good move.  He has a realistic chance of commanding a regular first team place in an aspirational side.  Celtic released him permanently for little more than an initial loan agreement that will prevent Ewan from facing them for the remainder of this season.

With two midfielders already signed this month, it is no surprise that Ismaila Soro is set to follow Ewan out the door.  For reasons that continue to perplex, MLS clubs continue to swoon around the edges of the Celtic squad, with New York Red Bulls reportedly hoping to add Ismaila to a list of former Celtic misfits that includes Patryk Klimala, Cameron Harper and Lewis Morgan, the latter moving from Inter Miami last month.

Another midfielder on the move is 20-year-old summer recruit from Sheffield Wednesday, Liam Shaw, who will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Motherwell.  Liam was one of the success stories in the win over Real Betis in December.  The move to Fir Park will hopefully give him an opportunity for first team football, it should also give you and me a better chance to assess his potential.

The Dundee pantomime season officially ends this week (oh yes it does) and Dundee are wondering what use they have for our on-loan panto act, Leigh Griffiths.  We are short of striker talent and Ange is still new to Scotland, so may be unfamiliar with how things work.  The panto season is also over in Glasgow, Leigh’s time at Celtic must also be over.

10 sleeps ’til Hibs.

“I am getting the impression you live in a Bond Villian style lair, with a giant satellite on top of your volcano. that feed your massive bank of tv screens allowing you to watch 108 football matches at the same time,

either that or your outside a radio rentals.”

Hi SAINT, on a day like this, when I can’t make up my mind what to watch, I have 3 games on TV, laptop, and IPad. Sometimes, when ESPN+ or Paramount Plus have umpteen games on at the same time, I jump around. Tomorrow is an easier choice – I’ll watch games from AFCON, FA Cup, and Serie A in succession starting 9:00 AM US EST time. It’s certainly different from the bad old days watching Scotsport filming a puddle beside the park with Arthur Montfod commentary when MTK Budapest were beating us 4-0!

  2. Everton paid 20 million for a defender from D. Kiev,Mychacenko.Looks bang ordinary.

We paid 4 million for Starfelt a defender from Rubin Kazan.

Everton pay 12 million for Paterson,a Rookie RB.

We paid 3.5 million for a Croatian International RB.

    Gene,

I have no time for the EPL and Brentford will be tourists for a season or two before going back to The Championship.

I actually enjoyed Championship football a lot so I am not married to dream that Brentford will become some EPL powerhouse.

By all accounts, Brentford were holding on for spells in the second half against The Vale – I hope you enjoyed the game.

At some stage in recent history, the CSC relocated to The Royal Horseguardsman. Who would have thunk we we would have ended up in a pub with a name like that :)

Really enjoyed the game – played in good spirit by both sides – Vale gave a good account of themselves but class told in the end.

I am on a daily call at my own work, monitoring COVID absence rates and impacts on the business, across the UK

Like you we receive info directly from Senior sources to support, guide the business decisions.

The figures I quoted earlier are directly from the Govt published Stats today.

I am not arguing for lockdown or continued restrictions,

Just find it really sad that with over 150k deaths, and still growing, this is now acceptable for some,

and no longer the focus for others

Incidentally With government guidance changing I challenged 3 new employee isolations on Friday morning.

All 3 family isolations, and they had negative LFT results,

Unvaccinated, so still need to isolate, those vaccinated in similar circumstances can now return to work.

Earlier in the week I thought there was a chance we’d see him on the pitch tomorrow. I’ve read subject to international clearances today, probably scuppers that idea.

  11. Norriem – I return on Monday but in my absence the Supervisors gave called me and let me know of 12 staff having to isolate. That’s fine and we will deal with the new advice on my return.

But I was sitting thinking about the unvaccinated my self in the example you gave above. Just something not right there.

  13. GuyFawkes,

Think League of Ireland finished 19th November, so he would be without a game for almost 8 weeks, I expect it will be a couple of weeks before we see him in B Team.

  14. From the link AN DUN provided above. These are net transfer profits in millions. Maybe we should be studying what Lille do right with scouting?

I noticed that Benitez started with FOUR fullbacks, Coleman and Godfrey in a back 3, with JoJo Kenny and Mykolenko playing in front of them. One would think that Kenny is the more likely to be displaced by Patterson, although he did create Everton’s second goal.

I’ll reserve judgment on Mykolenko – I thought he did fairly well for being tossed in at the deep end.

As Auldheid says, “We shall see.”😊

  16. I realize that the Delta variant is not yet subsumed by the less virulent Omicron, but the latest death figures for the U.S. and U.K., as reported by Worldometers.com are startling.

    U.S. Thursday 2,056

    Friday. 2,457 ( 43 out of 51 states ( including DC ) reporting.)

    U.K. Wednesday 231

    Thursday. 229

    Friday. 313

That is nearly 5,300 lives lost in 3 days, with yesterday’s final U.S. figure still to be calculated.

I find it hard to be optimistic that we will soon be out of this when I view this huge toll.

You are partially right about Florida. De Santis reports about 1 new death a day in the red column, as the true figure would make him look bad, then craftily and quietly updates the ‘Total Deaths’ column once a week. At any other point in time, the figures are an undercount. So the picture I gave is understated.

  23. UK now the tops in Europe for Covid deaths.150,000.

Without the Jabs,God knows what that total would be.
