Paddy the wizard, Paddy the athlete, he’s going all the way

547

We like Patrick Roberts; all of us do. He’s the kind of player who gets fans out of their seats, an entertaining throwback to a time when wing wizards were wanted by all. But Patrick is more than that.

I spent a bit of time with him last year at an Adidas ‘Backed by Messi’ event. He was very chilled for most of the day, before becoming sharply focussed, “I need to eat.” “I need to eat” was said several times. It had an urgency, the time for shooting the breeze was over, within minutes, a meal was needed to keep physiological objectives on plan.

Patrick wasn’t seeing many first team minutes at that time, but focus was complete. This is an athlete who plans to go all the way in the game.

He’s at Celtic because he wanted to be here. Manchester City were looking for an incredible figure for his transfer, well over double Celtic’s previous highest transfer fee, although perhaps not so incredible given the market in England. Without Patrick’s patience, City would have found a buyer, but Patrick knows where he and Celtic are going this season.

Great to have you back, Paddy.  You’re going to love playing centre half.  Ask big Nir, it’s an absolute blast!

The young French guy would make sense for us, and at 19 and at over 6’ 1”, would give us another striking option.

He would look up to Moussa from their time in French youth team system and so would accept he has to fight for a starting place. Also delighted to have the chance to put his ‘checkered’ past behind him in a new country.

Many pluses and few minuses if we can get him in.

Further to the comments that some named players may be more popular wi the Celtic support than other named players.

It is blindingly obvious that our Board give absolutely no thought to players names and their impact with the support.

Otherwise why were we lumped with NADIR Çiftçi or Rafael SCHEIDT, not to mention Olivier TEBILLY.

  10. BSR, The Paddy Roberts story was well covered by STV. (Not the BBC). However I think STV splits it’s news coverage at points to for instance East Scotland and West Scotland. Not sure but I certainly watched it in West central Scotland.

Jonny Hayes is in the Ireland squad for their upcoming games. He probably wont play unfortunately .

Jonny was unlucky with his header saved by the St Johnstone goalie last Saturday. I didnt realise at the game how high he leaped to connect with the ball until I saw the match highlights on Sportscene. I want him to come good for us.

The Ireland team now wear New Balance strips . Stating the obvious , their commercial or marketing department saw a chance to capitalise on the connection between us and the Irish team.

I rented a converted old passed the Gairloch this summer.

It was magic, shingle beach 2 minutes away, ring plover and Oyster catcher nesting. Apart from my wife and daughter I never saw another human on that beach the whole week.

7 minute walk beautiful sandy beach, a few dog walkers now and again, that was it.
