Watching Shane Lowry and think it’s lovely to see Green White and Gold at top of leaderboard , it. Would be good to see one of the good guys winning. Gerryfraethebrig if lurking check Cloghers post at 9.15 your favourite song Grace. HH

  3. London Calling is the only album I’ve ever bought in my life on the strength of browsing in a record shop and thinking ‘Thats fantastic’.

I remember Etims saying at the time when all the insincere fuss was being made about a minute;s silence that the Celtic fans would find it more appropriate in Joe Strummer’s case.

Agree with Rudi. Defeat would be a disaster. Ronny wouldn’t be blamed by me. Others would though.

Clearly we need a striker. Our current lot aren’t up to it. If we don’t invest, I won’t invest in Celtic financially. Emotionally I can’t help it but financially I can.

We ought to beat the mediocre Swedes.

I don’t believe Java applets were first produced in Indonesia either.

I remember a guy trying to get beer kits into Jeddah with an orange juice label wrapped round them.

The customs in the airport confiscated them despite his protests about needing the orange juice for his Vitamin C deficiency.

They silenced him quickly when the pointed out they were Jaffa oranges and were on the banned list.

  6. Captain Beefheart on

    Jungle jim,

Do you actually believe that some Celtic supporters want us to lose in order to be proved right?

  7. The truism of football, whether it is justified or not.

It’s not a truism then, is it? Justification is important in weighing up any assessment or decision. If it’s unjustified- don’t justify it and don’t condone it. Simples.

The buck stops with the coach.

If Ronny costs us another 12 mill. this year,he should resign or be sacked.

Really?? Why? Why just the coach? Why not the captain or the top earners or the CEO? Or the scouts? Or the Youth coaches? The 12 million, heavily eaten up by player bonuses for achieving it, is not a given; it has to be earned. We never came near a level of European credibility between 1974 and 2000 (apart from 1980). Should we have sacked a manager every year or just every second year?

Do you take any account of factors such as the effect of the Bosman ruling, Big 5 league hegemony, TV money doping, Disappearance of diddy/pub team opposition through improved coaching and training, spiraling wage and transfer costs? Or is it just a case of “it’s a failure and someone has to go_ might as well be the coach”? Do the bosses at Night and Day or William Lows really sack their managers every year that they fall behind Tesco and Sainsbury? When do context, environment and realistic expectations come into play?

Football is one of the most stupid industries in existence. Despite the evidence of success being obtained by coaches like Alex Ferguson and Dario Gradi getting to build clubs and survive more than two short seasons of failures in order to do so, we still fall for the mantra that “Someone needs sacking”. No other industry sees a managerial turnover at he level that football does. It is nothing more than a ritualistic sacrifice to appease fans and promise that a new manager will be different (not necessarily better- might even be worse- but at least you get a new target for your ire). No one can defend that as a strategy.

As for we punters, why is there animus towards P.L. over what his apparently huge salary costs us and no animus towards Ronny over the money he has cost us.12 or so mill. and counting.Perhaps.

Two different questions based on a false premise. There has been animus towards both and PL is included along with all coaches and scouts in the group that “costs us £12m” as you would have it. All of these people have contributed to our successes and our failures. If you sack them to punish them for a failure- how do you weigh up the balance between that failure and their other achievements? What if Ronny is building a club structure like Ferguson or Gradi? Sacrificing short term achievement for long term health? Would the Sack Him sentiment remain valid?

It wouldn’t happen in the business world. Why should it happen at Celtic?

What would not happen in the business world. Most managers are not sacked. It is an extreme rarity. Most retire or are sidelined unless they have done something spectacularly illegal or incompetent. Private sector managers get their bonuses in good times and in bad- as recent evidence, rather than truisms or myths would have it.

    Sentiment?

What sentiment? Who is asking for Ronny to be retained because he is a nice man?- Precisely no-one. That is a straw man argument

Two ahead. Shane is playing well. That tricolour next to the leaders name is pleasing to my eye. :)

How can you call Malmö “mediocre?”

    Have you seen them play?

Are you saying that the Swedish league, which has a 20 game start on ours can be written off without seeing and knowing the teams and their players?

Let’s give the CHAMPIONS of another country some respect.

  13. Captain Beefheart on

GG, good evening. I have watched Swedish champions before. They were all mediocre. Malmo are average in their league. I saw some highlights when they had the shock result against the Austrians. They are mediocre. Doesn’t matter how many games they have played. It isn’t a factor.

Losing to them would be a catastrophe.

  14. Sips

SMSM have a permanent ‘open season’ on Celtic, it’s my lifetime experience, and I’ve said many times on here they played a major part in our closest rivals route to extinction through the same bias.

It’s nice of John Collins to give them the time of day ,with tactical training nous from Lennoxtown, personally I wouldn’t bother, it’s so riddled with anti Celtic agenda regardless of how well developed JC and Celtic are, it’ll be misconstrued,

As it was because he appeared too knowledgeable * Compare with young manager Warbs *

John Collins (as noted by RWE) earlier is being given more ‘air time’ than Ronny

all he did was commit the cardinal sin of ‘accidentally scratching the press and finding the huns’.

We live in a football country where the BBC gave 1 hour 15 minutes radio build up to a certain Championship game, and BT Sport 15 minutes to a Champions League game. Bias is part of what makes a Celtic fan support Celtic, it’s always motivated me, and helped make Celtic unique.

On your point of speaking to them, if we must, then treat them with a healthy always polite disrespect, and skip insights of how we are making Celtic better than anything else in the country.

  17. Nostalgia alert.

Most of us on here seem to be of a certain vintage.

Earlier this year I managed to purchase an authentic, original, Celtic view from the week I was born, reporting on the match of that very day in 1966.

I searched for this on and off for a few years. Hens teeth an awe that.

If anyone is interested, the seller on eBay has posted a few hundred views from 1966 to 1975.

A couple from 1967 as well.

My view is the best, cheap , wee present I ever bought myself, its a great partisan read, and historical read.

Even browsing for them is reminding me of so many early matches I went to.

    Search,

With respect, the buck should stop at Ronny’s boss, he after all holds all the aces does he not ?

And in any business world I have inhabited, Pedro would have walked, or been pushed a few years ago.

    Just my humble opinion.

In the football world, coaches are hired and fired over the results of the team.

Whether we like it or not.

    Celtic should be different?

Ronny candidly admitted his mistakes he made one year ago. Mistakes which to many on here were blindingly obvious.

P.L. may have had a marginal role in the debacle which transpired ,but the buck stops with the coach.

    Always has ,always will.

Pedro may be hold the purse strings, but he can`t be held responsible for what happens on the field.

    Hail Hail.

Well put mate and agree with all you said, I just think we need to learn to be a bit more sweeter in dealing the media.

The attention that a dead club gets is due to the their marketing and lately they are leaving us in the stalls. Yep, that’s where they want us, it’s up up to our board to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Away to bake a cake…night all:)

  23. Captain Beefheart

Was it a shock result against Red Bull?

Surprise yes, maybe a mild shock.

Sweden has produced, unsurprisingly, a few highly rated players over the years and their World Cup record puts Scotland’s to shame, perhaps due to their higher population and better youth football programmes.

Their tennis players aren’t so bad either.

Good enough for our number 1 to have a Swedish coach.

Aye, the footballing world is a strange place right enough, but come on, we have cash, it’s not as if we will be putting ourselfs in hock to aquire a couple of top quality players.

Players who don’t fit the sell on policy, players who will make a material difference to the team, players like Lubo was,

Players like that will put bums on seats, sometimes the strategy needs to be tweaked a bit.

All in all I reckon Pedro has done a fine job, but it could have been so much better, had he just gambled a bit more, and not with the family silver, as I said, we can afford it.

The real reason Sevco get the attention they get from the establishment press is that they represent the biggest market demographic.

They, MSM, are seeing their audience decline, due in some part to CQN and the likes, and they are in retention mode, trying to slow down the road to the bottom.
