Patience, flag and Siri

458

Nervous? Oh yes. Any one of a number of things can go wrong, up to and including a red card while conceding a penalty. Celtic will need to score three without reply before any of us relax tonight. It’s the kind of challenge which should be completed within 15 minutes but Brendan Rodgers is right to call for patience. Any rush to get the job done could produce fatal consequences.

18 years ago this week, in front of a packed and newly completed Celtic Park, Larsson, Lambert, Boyd, Rieper, Burley and co. faced an equally unfancied St Patrick’s Athletic but couldn’t put the ball in the net. And they guys knew a thing or two about playing the game. Football isn’t played on paper, sometimes you need reservoirs of patience to invest in this sport.

Remember to get along early to see the league title flag unfurled before kick-off. I know we’ve seen 11 of these events since 2001 but we should never take it for granted.

…………….and the game is on your season ticket.

Best wishes to Tony Watt, if he joins Hearts, and to Massimo Donati, who’s pitching his tent at Hamilton Accies this season. Both created great Champions League memories for us.

I know the Uefa response to Res 12 hasn’t been generally released but did Siri and Skybet get a copy as well as the SFA?

When is the first game of the new season and where are we playing, home or away? And who are we accommodating by allowing that to happen? Don’t try to obfuscate. the postponement of games has happened before due to lucrative friendlies but we have never before given up flag day.

I joked back when the huns won the championship this would happen. Seriously I did not believe even our PLC would stoop so low to accommodate their love of the Old Firm.

    You cannot defend the indefensible.

    Neither can the PLC!

Old Firm and Rangers mean more.

  2. Eoghan O@Connell played well against Wolfsburg, imo, some really good passing out from the back and composed on the ball. It was unfortunate that the deflection came off him, but so what, could have been any of the players. He did ok, too, last season against Dundee at Dens and before that against Dundee Utd at Tannadice. The bhoy has potential, and needs a run of games as has been said already. But, will he get the time – I hope so, nothing better than one of our own breaking through.

Control the midfield tonight, control the game, and shoot on sight anywhere from 20 yds outside the penalty box, it’s a no-brainer in these conditions.

Here’s to another fantastic night at Paradise.

Thinking of visiting CQN corner tonight…so if you see a guy 6′ 7″, going bald with pony-tail, buck teeth, bow-legged with splayed feet…that’s not me…I don’t have a pony-tail.

Much as I don’t like the way the current board run things,I could never-quite-be as unyielding as NEGANON.

But he would have been dancing on the ceiling like the rest of us!

Wouldn’t it have been fun to read Neganon’s comments the night we won the big cup?

    On your second point.

One reason. It has never happened and is only occurring this once and his once only to accommodate the Hun loving Old Firmist PLC who pretend they are Celtic supporters.

Sack the board and rid us of Peter the bonus collector.

So you are trying to convince us that the only reasin Celtic gave up an opening day home game was so that The Rangers can have a flag day instead. It was nothing whatsoevervto do with playing Inter in Limerick.

I think you’re scraping the barrel in your attempts at playing the big hero in front of your pals by telling Celtic people to GTF.

    Carry on.

  9. While I agree that O’Connell was very unlucky at the o.g., imo, it really knocked his confidence. His distribution afterwards was very poor.

As for BBC Scotland’s sports department, they are (and always have been) deid team daft. There was a big difference in Bonnar’s contribution to Radio4 this morning and the usual tripe he peddles for Radio Scotland.

  10. I think at the first Old Firm game the Celtic Team should provide a guard of honour for the Rangers team both entering and leaving the park to celebrate their successful return to the fold, their championship victory and the future escalation of cheating.

Hail! Hail! The return of the Old Firm.

He played well until Sviatchenko went off, after which he appeared to lose confidence.

He lost possession 6 times in succession, for example.

Not a criticism of the bhoy, simply an observation.

  12. Auld Tam

you are deluded if you believe anything else.

All the old favourites there, like relegation, but , while I’ve read ‘came out of administration’ many times, a whopper in itself, ‘came out of liquidation’ is a whole new level of farce.

    Shameful stuff from the BBC.

  14. TQNTINE TIM

    Great post.

Big Jock had a vision and strategy.

He took control of all football operations deciding who should come in and who should go.

Hopefully Brendan has the same remit.

The nervousness of fans about lack of signings is understandable due to our recent history.

While we have a bloated squad the areas in central defense and defensive midfield are in need of urgent attention.

  15. MWD –

A guard of honour for The Rangers?

If that’s what you really want, go for it.

  26. MWD –

I’m looking forward to a visit to Paradise tonight, confident of a Celtic victory in front of a rocking big crowd. There are 5 of us going, 3 of whom are new season tickets.

We’re playing a team from Gibraltar called Lincoln Red Imps, who have a 1-0 lead over us, so all to play for.

The above two paragraphs make no mention of The Rangers or the O** F***. They have sod all to do with tonight’s game. You’re the only one talking about them. Fill your boots. Just how much have you missed them?

  27. West End of East End on

Come in here on the day of a game, Flag to be unfurled, CL qualifier, new managers 1st competitive home game only to read people getting stuck into the club for whatever reasons they can find.

For those knocking the club today, do you take no enjoyment from following Celtic ? It’s match day, we’re supposed to be excited about tonight.

I’m really looking forward to it, will be nervous to start with but know we will prevail in the end. Will also enjoy seeing Bobby Lennox & Rosemary Burns unfurl the flag and do you know what, if Efe & James Forrest are selected I’ll be shouting them on hoping they have a blinder.

Park your moans for after the game…

  28. clogher celt on

I’ve no time for Zero Hour Contracts either. They treat people like dirt and shouldn’t be anywhere near Celtic Park.

The advert does say work on ‘a day to day basis’ and on match days. Different to the other casual roles in Catering/Stewarding, which are only on match days.

Maybe with the increase in Season Book sales, they just want someone waiting by the phone, at home having had to tell the Social Welfare that they have found work.

  29. MWD good comments. Don’t mind the deluded/blind being such, it’s when they try to peddle the rubbish to others/us !.
