Payback for Turnbull Hutton

735

You all think you’re so smart, smugly laughing at the outcome of a game in a tournament you didn’t even know existed until recently.  Let me tell you, yesterday’s defeat of Newco Rangers was nothing short of calamitous for the road I hoped the club would take.

Ally McCoist is crucial to all the things I hope happens to Newco in the years to come.  He alone can deliver the hilarity waiting for when his team face full time footballers every week.  Who else could spend so much yet produce so little?  Who else would have the sheer brass neck to demand such a salary, even if partially deferred, in order to endorse the spivs as suitable recipients of season ticket money?  This guy is unique and of immeasurable value.

Yesterday’s defeat fundamentally weakens his position.  What now when, in true Rangers tradition, he stands in front of this year’s AGM thanking ‘yous’ for being the cream in his doughnut?  Will they still cheer at being patronised like applauding seals completely lacking in self-awareness?

Mark my words, anything which undermines McCoist is unwelcome.  A Ramsden’s Cup win would allow him to claim as much credit as he could waddle off with and would have upset no one.  They had a party at Ibrox planned, like it was 1975 all over again.  The humiliation must be significant.

The way forward for Newco Rangers is to put pressure on their board to release badly needed funds for the manager to spend in the hope of winning promotion from the Championship next season.

A word for Raith Rovers and their chairman Turnbull Hutton.  It was a Raith Rovers director who sat across the table from one of the Rangers clubs (I’ve lost track) to judge their failure to dispense their tax and other duties during season 2011-12.  McCoist then publicly demanded to know the names of the panel members.

It was Raith’s Starks Park ground which needed 24 hour security after receiving a threat to burn it to the ground following McCoist’s outburst.  Turnbull Hutton stood firm and was one of the voices which ensured the rules were applied as they stood.

Seville – The Celtic Movement

“Going into the second leg, it was all in Liverpool’s favour and on paper it was Celtic’s toughest test. That wasn’t to be the case though as Celtic achieved a very comfortable 2-0 at Anfield. Both goals were superb to top a fantastic victory. A low free kick from Alan Thompson and a wonderful strike from John Hartson were the difference in this game. Celtic went through to the semi-final 3-1 on aggregate.”

Cultsbhoy, fine with the education approach but I wouldn’t have thought it would work. To sing that song in the first instance is daft. To sing it when being recorded on a mobile phone is sheer stupidity. To then hope for rehabilitation for someone with that judgement might be stretching it. I suppose if anything the intellect should play a large part in Leigh’s defence.

My fear is he would turn up and behave like a big schoolboy being told off.

Ending your argument by calling someone an idiot shows how much of a man you are.

never was calling someone an idiot part of the argument. You just put that in there to defend your own pathetic ignorance.

Next time you wanna condemn Leigh Griffiths, take a long hard look in the mirror.

So, while like most on here I think Dundee Utd. should wipe the floor/park with them, we should never, ever underestimate a MIB team like that one. Did you see Elbows in the very last minute of the game yesterday when a long ball (another one, again!!) was thrown up to the front and, knowing that he wouldn’t/couldn’t get it literally propelled himself forward, landing about three feet away from the defender. The ref took the bait and gave them a free kick right at the edge of the box (which thankfully they made use of in their usual, effective way). But, what if Elbows had managed to get into the box????

A bad pitch, an early red for a central player followed by yellows for first foul tackles for others in the engine room (Mr Thomson at Pittodrie recently, e.g.). They would appear to have a rank rotten team but got to think they’ll get every bit of honestmistakery going to attempt to bridge the gap.

I hope LG has explained to Lenny that there could be other video clips of himself singing other songs with the Hibs fans. I detest racism in any form but like others on here, I believe Leigh is now caught up in a ‘media driven frenzy’.

Celtic should fine him and remind him that he is a Celtic player now and certain standard must be met at all times.

I don’t believe LG is the ‘sharpest knife in the drawer’ but I don’t want to see him forced out of the club either. Everyone deserves a second chance.

The SFA case should fall based on equality of treatment. There is another professional footballer in the video who has not been cited. Griffiths knows this person and could make this known. For me he has gone too far and my tendency would be to send him down the road. But, everyone should get a chance to apologise and change. If he did this Celtic could take responsibility for his rehabilitation.

    Re MSM –

Where is the coverage of the arrests in Edinburgh yesterday?

Where is the analysis of the Murray Group accounts? The have reported huge losses and the statement from the chairman and auditors make this a huge story. See Barca Bhoy on Twitter for more.

Where is the follow up on the George Angus/ Sevco story that Phil was writing about at the weekend?

Three stories all potential front page stories this morning, all ignored.

I was speaking to BRTH this morning and we started to hatch a plan to reach out to the non internet using Celtic supporters to try to get them away from the MSM and online and onto the various Celtic sites.

Accordingly we are looking for some young people who would be happy to distribute flyers at the remaining games. We’ll pay them of course! If you can think of anyone who’d fit the bill (students etc) let me know. Email is david@cqnmagazine.com

I don’t like it either when a Scotsman decides to play for the country of his forebears.

I remember Masson,Rioch and Goram playing for theirs. Not a problem, their choice.

Aiden promised his grandfather that, given the choice,he would play for The Republic. His choice.

Big news from Brasil over the weekend is that Atletico Mineiro (who Ronaldinho plays for) have signed Nikolas Anelka.

No news on what the signing on fee was, but wages are approx 28k GBP a week. Anelka will be eligible for the Brasileirão (starts end of this month) and the quarter final stages of the Libertadores.

Except of course that the only country he mentioned was the RoI.

And he told us that it makes him feel physically sick.

  29. I would like Celtic to use the LG controversy in a positive way. Instead of taking away the man’s livelihood – put more resources, both financial and non financial, into supporting refugee communities. No need to publicise it, just do it. Celtic probably already do such things but more could be done.

Raith Rovers turnover around £1.5M per year, typical of a club in that division.

They are well managed in a difficult environment, with costs balanced such that they hope to show a modest surplus most years.

My estimate is that their football budget is no more than 65% of turnover, which puts the football wage bill in at around £1M per year, probably a little less.

Teams like Falkirk, Hamilton, Livi, all run to a similar model.

It’s football life on a shoe string.

Speaking of shoes, I see MIH is now officially on its uppers.

As of June 2013, the business has now lost a total £515 Million since inception, has a value of MINUS £225M (insolvent) and requires to generate some £375 Million to repay its debt and satisfy its creditors from its total remaining assets of just £129M.

Since June 2013, the company reports that it has sold most of its remaining property assets for cash at around half of the price originally paid, and is in the process of disposing of the call centre operation and the residual smaller trading entities, which is expected to be concluded ‘in the short term’.

For the past 4 years, the company has essentially been winding itself up through a process of generating cash by selling assets to pay off bank debt.

So far they’ve generated £450M of cash through asset sales to pay their debts, and owe a further £350M to LBG. This is NET of the £267M LBG effectively wrote off when it swapped debt for equity over recent years.

Over the short term, the last of the assets will be sold, and the final loss to the bank can be calculated. It will probably be in excess of £500M.

So, taken together, you have a cumulative trading loss in the Murray group of companies of £515 Million to date, with more to come as the remaining assets are sold below book value, almost all of which losses will be swallowed by the part nationalised Lloyds Banking Group.

Curiously, in the preceding years, the shareholders of the company have done rather well from dividend payments and whatnot, and some have utilised high risk tax strategies to optimise returns from the company’s business, the model of which in retrospect we can see was little more than a vehicle for borrowing huge sums from the bank, rewarding shareholders with a slice and then burning the rest.

Factoring in the eye-watering losses at Rangers over most of the period, (c£135 Million) you can see how difficult it is in this realm nowadays to earn a Knighthood for services to business. Presumably one must go down for at least, what, £650 Million to earn the title?

  31. John O’Neil

I dont think they’ve been liquidated – yet!

They’re are still in the process of liquidising -I think.

A process that appears to take an extremly long time to complete.
