Payoffs, what price silence in these circumstances?

883

There’s lots of understandable media interest in the anticipated parting of the ways of ‘Greatest (only) Ever Rangers Manager’ Ally McCoist and newco.  McCoist, as ever, has let it be known that he’s looking for a £400k golden handshake, which will almost certainly have the club offer more of its commercial assets to Mike Ashley if it is to be funded.

I hope he gets everything he asks for, bleed them dry, Ally, even if they need to sell more of their IP.

Irrespective of the final settlement, the most important outcome of the termination meetings is whether or not McCoist agrees to a silence clause in return for his cash.  More than anything else, this club needs some straight talking from trusted sources who know where the bodies are buried.

The cash will be tempting for Ally, but his open and frank voice going forward is of vastly more value to his club, if not to him.  The most debilitating scenario would be an Ashley-funded settlement with a silence clause.  Go for it, Ally.

I know at Christmas your thoughts are never far from Billy No’well.  Billy has broken new ground in the Bampot stakes and released a DVD with 17(!) of his videos.  Full details here.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – tons of great reading and photos on your favourite indulgence.

If you’re late on the blog, there was an earlier article today.

    Good Morning Timland.

Intellectual elitism alive and well on cqn.

If you don’t see the world the way I do, you must be thick.

What’s the point,I’ll just get handed my erse for my bad grammar.

Away too my work, have a great day cqn.

  2. I have drifted from the blog in recent years, not because of opinions aired from either side of the “board”, or “PLC” opinions and viewpoints, but rather in the manner they are expressed.

I have found the retorts and jibes in reply to ones own viewpoints becoming increasingly vitriolic, verging on insulting. If we can’t debate in a polite and civilized manner, why bother at all? All we do is push the opposite camp into further entrenchment of their own beliefs. The entire Indy exchanges of recent were a perfect example of this.

I apologize if this sounds a little like a rant, or a lecture, but good Tims bandying mutual insults about is entirely unnecessary.

  3. I have been made aware that our esteemed Mr James Traynor will be making a comeback to the SMSM in January – source, beyond reproach, would not divulge who he will be working for.

  4. KevinBhoy,

Thanks for an excellent post in reply to my concerns.

I’m not going to reply to your points. They were thought provoking, well thought out, and well made, and vice versa, I found myself agreeing and/ or sympathising with what you said. But most of all, I think I enjoyed it because it was well thought out and thus well–worded. It’s clear you are speaking from the heart in response. For me personally, I’ll be thinking about what you said, taking it in – I won’t be rushing to find something to argue against for the sake of it, which is maybe another issue causing CQN to lag a bit.

Anyway, regardless of what I say, I really enjoyed reading your post. More of that please !

    —-

    Neganon2,

I know, but I fear you let him win. In seriousness, part of me gets a perverse satisfaction seing you respond at his level, but given the point I’ve been making, you make a far better contribution to the higher level of debate, and should stay there.

    ——-

    Nye Bevans’ rebel soldier,

I might be wrong of course, but if that post was a reaction to my concerns, then I’m sorry you missed the point. I don’t think you are likely to have done so though, as I’ve enjoyed reading some very knowledgeable posts from yourselve on more than one subject, and I relate your name to quite an intelligent poster. Nothing to do with inellectuall snobbery, but to the contrary, a reaction against deliberate and blatant ignorance.

So unless I’ve picked you up wrong, I find your post infuriating given the concerns I was trying to express, and disappointing that you didn’t feel any urge to up the debating level a tad from that where the current board of Celtic would like to keep it.

I love Celtic the Celtic support and always will.

    =====================================================

The love of a Celtic support is a given for all Celtic fans.

There is now unfortunately a support within a support – a self-righteous faction who like to pontificate on all matters Celtic and would use our beloved club as a political platform.

As time goes by, I find that I have little in common with this section of our support.

There are people who thrive on turmoil, the Militant Tendency that nearly wrecked the Labour Party, is a good example – we have our own tendency, and we all know who they are.

These people, it seems to me, would like a chunk of the anarchy that is currently going on at Ibrox – they want to label our Board as corrupt, our Chief Executive as a ‘spiv’, liar and complicit with the SFA in sympathising with the Ibrox entity.

It is not ‘plain sailing’ for Celtic, with the Scottish game impoverished and seemingly in a state of inertia due to the car crash that is the Rangers brand.

I honestly believe that the club are doing all they can – yes mistakes are made – tell me any club that does not make mistakes, however the ONLY agenda is to make Celtic successful and profitable.

  6. San Diego Bhoy,

I found the attitude of some in defence of the board to be exactly as you describe, in the past few years, which accelerated my distrust in the Celtic board. The level of aggression demonstrated in the past year to defend them (moreso the first 6 months) .would never have been tolerated before. Which happened when players were being sold, and none brought in, and jeapordising CL qualification worth c£18M in favour of guaranteed revenue.

  8. ffm Your postings are a not a waste of time. Being on CQN for 8 years now I have learnt to scroll by posters that do not interest me

I do not scroll past yours

Not going to mention any posters who I have had verbals over the years , but as I said , I enjoy the banter on CQN. Met many a blogger was with estadio a few weeks ago for a beer. Love his stories

Realised many a year ago that I have known people like Pjbhoy from New York and love to share a beer with him again , I am sure we have less hair than last time we me 25 years ago

    Oh aye. Living wage agitators.

    Gie peace we ain’t Chelsea.

  10. Saint Stivs,

    That was another thing.

The video was posted here of the young boy being crowded by rozzers for wearing the Free Palestine T-Shirt.

Passed with minimal comment here as is the norm now. I don’t recall any comment being made actually.

But the video showed a terrified young lad surrounded by rozzers, who were only restrained by the calls of his fellow supporters around him.

In some people’s worlds here, he’d have been left to it.

In these times of dwindling attendances, why are we not doing our best to ensure youngsters can attend games without fear of arrest for wearing a Free Palestine T-shirt…

We all know who they are? Who are these people – I demand to know?

As for the, ahem, honest mistakes, made by our Board – are those the ones that collude with our rival to ensure their survival in an act of wanten corruption and anti competitive behaviour? Or perhaps the collusion with the criminalisation of their support whilst propping up sectarianism? Or perhaps lying to us about passing our details to the police? Or perhaps lying to us about safety certificates regarding the stadium? Or perhaps its their policy of appeasment to the MSM and the banning of perfectly innocent supports?

Maybe its the victimisation of the GB (aiding once again the police in its campaign to smash the marxist GB)?

Or maybe its their lack of comment about anything unless it involves money?

Or maybe lying to us about the lack of huns costing 10M?

Or maybe telling us that they will invest every penny in the team, subtly changing it to club, whilst not actually spending the money?

Or perhaps its the selling of all our best players while simultaneously just buying any player for their resale value without ever actually trying to build a team?

or perhaps its the pious nonsense around charity etc while at the same time not paying the living wage?

Or maybe its paying PL an extra bonus (which he was not contractually entitled to) whilst presiding over attendances plummetting and the football team going backwards? Thats good corporate governance that is!

Just a few wee mistakes there eh?

    I am sure I have forgotten a few more……

  14. ST,

Many thanks. I’ve been trying to go to my scratcher for some time as I’ve said enough. But CQN is indeed an addictive haunt. I suppose it’s far easier to express concerns here than to some 21 yr old steward at half time, or one of the many CFC fund raisers inside the ground – sadly, few of us get the chance to meet the mysterious men in charge, although I did have to listen yesterday to a Sevco fan boasting about his close friendship with the Celtic Directors and chatting and laughing about their love of golf and poker, at the money making end.

  15. FFM

Agree with much of what you’ve said.

It’s a good fight and one worth winning, remember that.

  16. Pf Ayr @ 07:25,

I recall that, it’s a fair point. But when a video of it was posted here a few days later, which I found even more disturbing that the references to it here beforehand, it passed with very little comment.

I can’t forget the fear in the young lad’s eyes.

Like other issues, I found myself concerned about the lack of interest or comment. So I gradually put 2 and 2 together – that most CQNers believe the young boy brought it on himself.

Cowiebhoy, Anya is better than Stokes and will stay fitter than Forrest. Anya will end up at a good Premiership side if we don’t sign him.
