Payoffs, what price silence in these circumstances?

883

There’s lots of understandable media interest in the anticipated parting of the ways of ‘Greatest (only) Ever Rangers Manager’ Ally McCoist and newco.  McCoist, as ever, has let it be known that he’s looking for a £400k golden handshake, which will almost certainly have the club offer more of its commercial assets to Mike Ashley if it is to be funded.

I hope he gets everything he asks for, bleed them dry, Ally, even if they need to sell more of their IP.

Irrespective of the final settlement, the most important outcome of the termination meetings is whether or not McCoist agrees to a silence clause in return for his cash.  More than anything else, this club needs some straight talking from trusted sources who know where the bodies are buried.

The cash will be tempting for Ally, but his open and frank voice going forward is of vastly more value to his club, if not to him.  The most debilitating scenario would be an Ashley-funded settlement with a silence clause.  Go for it, Ally.

I know at Christmas your thoughts are never far from Billy No’well.  Billy has broken new ground in the Bampot stakes and released a DVD with 17(!) of his videos.  Full details here.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – tons of great reading and photos on your favourite indulgence.

If you’re late on the blog, there was an earlier article today.

  1. Bada,

How far have our standards as fans fallen when supporters cannot claim to see improvements in our own without question?

  2. Tbh,

I haven’t seen a lot in Tonev so far but I can wait more than a few appearances before I shift into ‘get rid’ mode :)

I might have missed it ( genuinely) but I thought that Tonev has only been referred to in terms of his astonishing pace and that he MIGHT be a player. Hardly `talked up`.

Also,I have only been able to go to games in the last seven years but I am not convinced that our standards have dropped in that time.

Inter fans of my acquaintance call him -Luci Di Natale ( Christmas Lights ) -on / off on off / on off

Thank you for the compliment earlier and I relate to and get a lot of what you wrote in your subsequent superb post. Anyway, just wanted to say that your good self and the indomitable JamesGang are amongst the most readable on here.

I don’t think there is much between that Celtic team and the current team!!

    Very little difference

  10. Livibhoy, Jamesgang and Geordie Munro – I have enjoyed reading your contributions this morning. I don’t mean that in any disrespect to any other posters who may infer some slight, but your thinking and comments follow my own (in part). Thanks for your contributions as always.

  15. Nothing wrong, no flounce, no tutu but I have been spending an inordinate amount of my free time either lurking or posting on CQN and feel the need to make a lifestyle change. So plan is to take a total extended break, although must admit I have previously tried but failed.

Would like to take this opportunity to wish a sincere Happy Christmas to all the good ghuys of CQN.

Love ye all, Love Celtic and God willing, I will be back but Bye for a while.

If you read my post again,i started with ‘it’s all about opinions’, mine is that Tonev has done nothing since he arrived(and at Villa by the way), therefore i am not questioning yours,or anyone elses’ opinion.Guys in the last few days have said they think Tonev has played well/improved.I don’t,a simple difference of opinion.HH

  21. Been scanning back and read through the night shift. Seems like a whole lot of mutual ego-massaging going on there with a few posters, at the expense of the rest of us mere mortals.

  23. I noticed the red tops having a go at Celtic now on the Tonev result, some no name from England saying it may harm our product globally like what happened to LIVERPOOL with Swarez.

Now it’s very clear what’s going on here, there is an agenda to bail this SFA mob out here , and the only way that’s going to happen is if celtic through Alek Tonev under the bus, and I doubt if that’s going to happen, why,? Well because that would mean Celtic are saying he is guilty and they can’t because like Aberdeen they believe there player.

Take it to any court in the land Tonev walks, and so he should, and if the tables where turned I would still feel the same way, as I posted a couple of days ago, the SFA painted themselves into a corner with a knee jerk reaction all just to show how strongly the feel about racism.

Fine by me nothing better than getting behind a good cause and championing it all the way, BUT! At any cost?

A better way of championing it would maybe to have ehhhhhhh a black games official, one anyway in any of our top leagues, a black coach, a black director on any club, a black person, in the SFA/SPFL/SFL, let’s not kid ourselves here it took them 100 years to get to the 20th Century Catholic debacle, as usual they get it all wrong, a little bit of practice what you preach would probably make their decision a little clearer and that they (the SFA ) where doing that, but I don’t see that, I could be wrong but I doubt it, grabbing the moral high ground on a situation that you are more guilty than the man/ woman you are judging does not sit well with me.

Agree. Tonev, Wakaso, Berget, Boerrigter, an awful lot in wages for very little positive contribution to the team.

  25. JJ,

Get on it neebs. Sure you’ll get the odd morton on a midweek but it beats queuing on phones or picking and choosing and subsequently missing out.

Funny enough we don’t normally have a great deal of home games, and as hs says, I too have had every semi/final since joining.

    Bada,

Aye it wasnt a dig mate. It kinda read like that. All about opinions. HH.

I can confirm that nzb and myself have never been seen in the same room at the same time ;p

  26. A Jambo on Facebook has received a message from Leigh Griffiths.

The guys house was broken into and some items were stolen. He has offered to buy the guy some games for his kid.

    Well done Leigh Griffiths.

I agree we have a few fillers and would like to see more first picks bit this is simply not a new phenomenon.

It’s been the case for as long as I can remember.

  28. Bada,

It’s the most wonderful time of the yeeeeear.

Course I’m well. Hope you are too :)

  29. Just saw a job advert for a Kit room assistant for the SFA…. I had a wee look through it and one of the things they are looking for in their person spec states

“A working knowledge of storage and supply. Experience in forward planning”

    SFA ? Forward Planning ? They’re having a laugh, aren’t they ?
