Payoffs, what price silence in these circumstances?

883

There’s lots of understandable media interest in the anticipated parting of the ways of ‘Greatest (only) Ever Rangers Manager’ Ally McCoist and newco.  McCoist, as ever, has let it be known that he’s looking for a £400k golden handshake, which will almost certainly have the club offer more of its commercial assets to Mike Ashley if it is to be funded.

I hope he gets everything he asks for, bleed them dry, Ally, even if they need to sell more of their IP.

Irrespective of the final settlement, the most important outcome of the termination meetings is whether or not McCoist agrees to a silence clause in return for his cash.  More than anything else, this club needs some straight talking from trusted sources who know where the bodies are buried.

The cash will be tempting for Ally, but his open and frank voice going forward is of vastly more value to his club, if not to him.  The most debilitating scenario would be an Ashley-funded settlement with a silence clause.  Go for it, Ally.

I know at Christmas your thoughts are never far from Billy No’well.  Billy has broken new ground in the Bampot stakes and released a DVD with 17(!) of his videos.  Full details here.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – tons of great reading and photos on your favourite indulgence.

If you’re late on the blog, there was an earlier article today.

TD is mental. Really enjoying it after a slow start.

I don’t think it matters whether Salary decides to keep quiet or go public.

Why would anyone believe his version of events?

    He’s a compulsive liar.

  10. Livibhoy the difference today is that there is more accountability (or at least an expectation of accountability). Therefore we expect to know and understand what is going on and we expect bonuses etc to reflect performance.

That is not happenning at Celtic. Furthermore the Board’s behaviour towards its customers (see what I did there) is reprehensible. Furthermore the Board is participating in the corruption surrounding Sevco whilst pretending to us that it isnt.

Ergo they are not well liked – despite some of the luminaries on this site who believe the sun is located in their posteria.

  11. Tom McLaughlin,

Some might consider interrupting a massage before it gets to its ‘cheerful conclusion’ to be bad form. Unles of course it’s somebody else’s in which case it’s quite funny :)

I think there is more accountability. When did it become our sole focus though? I have seen people get more animated at PL bonus than losing to Morton that is not right for me.

The board is participating in the corruption at Sevco? How so? Can you please expand on that? My view is they are doing nothing at the minute. As I have said before Rangers would have reincarnated whether we like it or not. There will always be a team in blue by that name whether we like it or not.

The board are not well liked? They are not there to be liked. They are there to run the club financially. I don;t remember seeing many people having a picture of the chairman or other board members on their wall when I was a kid. The obssession with the board is tiresome. By all means make points and contact the club and put them accross and maybe get the answers required but the continual slating of the board does nothing. Just my views of course and happy to be shot down if this is not to everyone’s liking but that is just me.

I never said the sun shone anywhere near their backsides but they are getting more right than wrong. They might get more right if the fans get onside and communicate with them and give them the feedback required to improve and associate better with the supporters. Just my thoughts on it.

Was it Bell who refused to put a kit out for judas and referred to him as ‘him’??

Yup that’s the wee icehole, same guy who folded his arms for the one minutes applause for Jinkie when he passed away, now that is one durty little corksucker, the lowest form over there at that sheet hole.

  14. LiviBhoy –

Neganon has a definite anti-PL anti-board agenda. It doesn’t matter what they do, he will be against them. It’s a personal thing.

Not even worth debating with on that subject.

  15. Well the CQN Raffle has been draw by Celticrollercoaster using the new CQN Enigma Machine and the integrity of the procedure has been verified by the lovely Heather and Dawn

    – thank you girls!

Paul will announce the winning numbers and I will email the winners shortly after that. The prizes will be posted out today.

Thanks for everyone who participated. The advertisement will appear in the Sunday Herald – titled “A Statement From Celtic Supporters” on 25th January.

Unsurprisingly, Bellend is considered a hero over Ibrox way.

Our kit man played in a Celtic team that were European Champions – Bellend is also well known for driving a bus.

  17. The Sopranos .

There is a Palermo Ultras bar in the roughest part of Palermo ( and that is rough ) Everything is pink and black ( the Palermo colours ) A shrine to Palermo . Low ranking Mafia soldiers, whores , cocaine and herba. Amidst it all there is a framed photo of Paulie ” Walnuts ” Gualtieri . I once asked the barman why ? —–” the boys like him -they identify with him “

I think debating is healthy to be honest. I am a sucker for answering someone who uses my name to address me.

I read a lot on here and the anti board stuff just grinds me down at times.

If I felt it was that bad I would be writing to Celtic. Get the answers I seek out and hopefully then move on and get back to supporting the team.

    TonyD –

Is that true about the Jinky minute’s applause?

    Surely not.

As sure as God is my judge mate.

  21. LiviBhoy –

    Couldn’t agree more.

I would never tell you not to debate with anyone. I was really expressing that I personally will no longer take him seriously after his post on CQN prior to the Partick Thistle Wednesday night game.

  22. Tom McLaughlin

Ach we all got caught up in the heat of the moment and post things we regret. I have done it a few times. Apology and move on usually does it for me.

There is a lack of middle ground at times. If you are a board basher you can praise nothing they do and if you are a happy clapper you can never criticise them. I would like to think I am somewhere in the middle. I get a bit miffed at times and don;t agree with everything they do but they are the men in the board room and do what they think is best for the club. If they don;t get the feedback required to correct those judgements they will continue on that path until corrected. I think there needs to be more dialogue with the board if fans are unhappy. I’m sure they would rather that than people just not going back. Just my thoughts anyway.

  23. Weet weet weet,

I remember it well. A big win ‘sans Henrik’.

“He won’t be sacked because he hasn’t had a pay rise since 1972. He’s on 17 quid a month.”

    And still overpaid.

  25. Terry Butcher stated in his autobiography that the newly signed striker was treated as an outcast by his Scottish team mates at Ibrox.

Butcher explained: “It was [signing Johnston], as far as I was concerned, a fabulous signing for the club because Mo was such a good player, while Souness had achieved his ambition of beginning to break down the sectarian barriers at Ibrox. Our only doubt was we knew Mo was fiercely proud of being a Celtic fan and we wondered how he would settle. We need not have worried – he was terrific.

“Next day, the club wanted the Scottish and English players to hold a press conference to tell the media what a good signing he was. There was no problem as far as Ray Wilkins, Chris Woods, Mark Walters, I and some others were concerned. But the Scottish players – Davie Cooper, Ian Ferguson, Ally McCoist, John Brown and the rest – declined because they had received so many calls from friends telling them not to become involved.”

So Butcher outed the now Rangers manager Ally McCoist, as one of many players who took advice not to support a new team-mate because of his religion?

Rangers kitman Jimmy Bell, who is still at the club in the same capacity, also persecuted Johnston because of his religion. According to Butcher, Bell refused to leave Johnston’s training kit outside his hotel room during an Italian pre-season tour, yet he did with every other player.

Butcher added: “Jimmy Bell didn’t want to become involved at all. Mo roomed with Ally McCoist, as he had done for the national team, and it was Jimmy’s practice to put fresh kit outside everyone’s room for the next day. But he refused to do so for Mo, just leaving Ally’s, forcing Mo to go down three flights of stairs to the kit room to fetch his gear. Mo did so stoically and without complaint. In fact, in the end he made a joke about it.

“But this was a complete upheaval for the club. Even at meal-times there were a number of Scots who would not sit with him.
