Payoffs, what price silence in these circumstances?

883

There’s lots of understandable media interest in the anticipated parting of the ways of ‘Greatest (only) Ever Rangers Manager’ Ally McCoist and newco.  McCoist, as ever, has let it be known that he’s looking for a £400k golden handshake, which will almost certainly have the club offer more of its commercial assets to Mike Ashley if it is to be funded.

I hope he gets everything he asks for, bleed them dry, Ally, even if they need to sell more of their IP.

Irrespective of the final settlement, the most important outcome of the termination meetings is whether or not McCoist agrees to a silence clause in return for his cash.  More than anything else, this club needs some straight talking from trusted sources who know where the bodies are buried.

The cash will be tempting for Ally, but his open and frank voice going forward is of vastly more value to his club, if not to him.  The most debilitating scenario would be an Ashley-funded settlement with a silence clause.  Go for it, Ally.

I know at Christmas your thoughts are never far from Billy No’well.  Billy has broken new ground in the Bampot stakes and released a DVD with 17(!) of his videos.  Full details here.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – tons of great reading and photos on your favourite indulgence.

If you’re late on the blog, there was an earlier article today.

M McGill… I didn’t see any mention of Legia or Maribor in your 7-way agreement, the other mention you gave was to a team that Queen of the South pumped last week, although some would beg to differ it’s the same team you allude too, we might face Legia in the latter stages of the Europa league but I can assure you we won’t face any of the other two… If you need answers keep questioning, good night n god bless

I disputed it and said give me it a year.

A year later your case was very strong and I said give it one one year.

Three years later I think you are perhaps right.

Three out of four have been proven beyond doubt.

I wish you were wrong. I hope Celtic will demonstrate you are right before the Old firm is back in business.

It does feel to me it is too late. It saddens me deeply. I’ll always support Celtic. Unfortunately it looks like it will be from a greater distance.

It’s really important you keep posting here.

I think many might be giving up (well I know I am).

I fear that many who post here are oblivious to how out of touch they are with the disillusionment amongst the support, and ironically, they use the MSM excuses to explain this disillusionment. I love CQN dearly, and the great characters I’ve met here, but I’m tired and frustrated (possibly because of a busy time trying to make ends meet like many of us I expect) of constantly having to defend the support against muppets who aggressively blame the support for problems, while aggressively defending the suits who clearly don’t give two shites about the supporters.

How anyone can possibly take such a position baffles me, but they are here, and making their mark, with little opposition. I’m very close to giving up on it myself (indeed, I did have a successful 3 week flounce in October, but couldn’t help reading, and subsequently, couldn’t bite my tongue any more).

I find it disgusting, but due the pressures we are all under, I will have less time to comment than those who have benefitted from their love of authority and continue to denigrate the Celtic support while licking the backsides of the Board, and claiming they are uber Celtic supporters.

    They shame their ancestors.

In short, I’m asking, don’t give up, because I have, and I think many others will be doing so too.

  10. Gerryfaethebrig @ 00:33

“but in my humble opinion everybody is free to express their opinion but some take great delight in trying to “put the boot in” all the scandal that has went on in Scottish football I have yet to see “our” plc board do anything untoward, as I have already stated I am just one of the so called happy clappers”

No offence to you amigo, but can you not see that such a comment could have come directly from any r@ankers board?

This blind dedication to the Celtic Board is utter madness. We’re talking about ex BT CEOs for crying out loud. That is the biggest indication you can possibly have that it’s all about making money out of customer exploitation. BT is the worst company in the UK for this, exploiting us all because it enjoys the benefits retained from it’s time as a public service corportation, and holding every other telecom company to ransom, as well as treating its customer with contempt.

  11. Ach, I’ve just realised the time, and realised I’m wasting my time ranting here.

In the morning, beloved CQNer Donnily Toadily or whatever you want to call him will embark on some never-ending comma-less rant, sprinkled with some fake Gorbals patter, about how the Celtic Trust and us non-entity moaners should just shut up, and his arse-wit posts will be followed up by compliments on and admiration for his humour, and some “ha ha”s from fellow uber Celt board loving genius 67 Heaven.

Flounce?? I can’t do it. I’m just shrinking away in despair. I suppose it shouldn’t surprise me that Celtic is disintegrating along with society. But as long as all is rosey in your land, lads, who cares, eh?

  12. Last comment from me, forgive my rants.

Certain people can’t wait to blame the GB for everything, which is MSM and hun-like in its ignorance.

Then the same people attack important folk who give their all defending the Celtic Support by claiming they have an agenda, and some of the comments made about JF have been sickening, especially when made here.

Then the same people will scream their undying love for the Celtic Board who are incriminating elements of the Celtic Support who they obviously worry are calling them to account.

I see CQN posters as generally being in support of this attitude.

The most coherent posters aren’t, but they are fighting upstream against a tide of muppetry.

It’s actually disgusting, especially given what we should have learned from events at Hun HQ.

So in 10 years, the club will be left with such people, and the grandchildren of huns, and a sense of entitlement, a love of authority, and a disdain for the idea of questioning anyone in authority.

I’m actually shocked, gutted and dismayed at how easily and how quickly this has happened here.

  13. If you listen carefully you will hear… Twice..

I would prefer it it to a televised bent game.

How conditioned are we? And the bodies that take TV/advertising money.

    You are correct.

But how many will agree with you?

Not too many in this ‘sacred’ forum.

You are correct. We are being played by being systematically divided…..And ruled.

    Their Farce is also ours…

  15. PJBhoynyc,

Fergus rescued the club and gave us a great vehicle.

But now we’re no different from any other club, any other PLC, any other corporation. It’s money for those at the top who are involved and know how to exploit willing customers.

I genuinely believe that Celtic is the most vulnerable entity to this anywhere.

    We walked into it.

But I think you would agree, we could rescue ourselves from it. What is stopping us is the moronic comments of half-wit authority loving idiots taking up brain-space on CQN which would otherwise be the biggest key to resolving this.

That’s why I get so angry at reality of it, which is worship of new CQN hero TonyDonelly67. Cos he’s a laugh, a windup, innit, lol, Jeanette Findlay and the GB deserve all that’s coming etc etc.

I think I’d respect that more if he was being paid to do it. But it’s worse. It’s attention seeking, which means no debate on this issue you and I are talking about.

I suppose it’s just the way of things now. There are fholk who post here who give up so much time for others, and don’t take credit individually, but want credit to go to the club. Then some halfwit from the Brazen Head posts here because he was told it was place to get attention.

Intelligent fholk here will still indulge him, but are doing it less frequently, because he’s relentless in posting the same shite frequently.

That attitude is winning, which is why I despair. I believe in free speech, but ffs, it’s respected on the understanding that most people will make the effort to point out the nonsense of the argument when it applies.

    But not here.

Not too many in this “sacred” forum indeed. A voice lost.

HH to you PJ, hope you’re keeping well. Always enjoy your intelligent contributions.

  16. I think it was Jude who posted a video here of the Celtic Support at CZ game last week.

His post went without comment ( I was readin it about 12 hours later).

At lunchtime that day, a post was made here copying advice that Celtic supporters should make their way early as they would be subject to search on the way in. It was clear the attendence at this game was going to be minimal, with about 200 travelling Celtic supporters making up the biggest number.

This should have rang some alarm bells, but if I remember rightly, only one (possibly two) comment was made on this that afternoon on CQN.

Sure enough, Hebcelt posted a concern about intimidation of the support near kick-off time. Again, no comment in reply.

The next day, some comments about how the Celtic away support need to behave, young neds, etc etc. Today (or yesterday) I saw comments about how the Celtic support aren’t self-policing which is part of “the problem”.

Jude posted the video (which I can’t find, sorry) – I saw about 20 riot police with headguards and batons standing on the stairs beside the one stand where the Celtic support were located. Tensions were rising as they trying to do something, but who knows what. A young boy beside his mum was whacked on the head with a baton. This led to an increase in the angry noises from the supporters. A plastic cup of ice was thrown towards the riot rozzers. Then an elderly Celtic supporter in that vicinity angrily turned to the thrower and shouted at him/ them to stop while moving towards them. That was pretty much it.

So, my point: even though video evidence was presented here, it was ignored, and uber Celts such as TonyDonelly67 continued the next day to blame fellow Celtic supporters and the Celtic Trust for causing problems.

I’ve a simple question to ask of two posters who likely will claim not to have seen my question:

    TonyDonnelly67, and 67Heaven,

Why do you trust the Celtic Board more than your fellow Celtic supporters?

  17. FFM

    Thank you.

CQN has changed/evolved from low numbers of contributors too many over the years..

I still read occasionally so all I can say about old TD is this. I responded to him once, and his reply was personal and vitriolic. That was not the CQN I enjoyed from the past… Or it’s unspoken rules.

That said it is only an online forum allegedly… It has became more of a gang but, a friendly get together spot for friends… Indeed it has became many things.. To many people and good luck to them all…

More and more of them as the unwinding farce of Scottish Fitba continues…

I would suggest you remember one thing….

In the Cyber world, websites, particularly successful ones where critical thinking and intelligent posts dominate, eventually become dominated by one of two things…. Their own success and bots, or both. We live in the Information Age and that information is a two way street that can be bought and sold. Paul 67 is aware of this more than most….

    Take Care

And do not take the TDs of this world or their acolytes too seriously.

    Wise words as always.

Big Nan’s post reminds me why I despair and keep telling myself to give up thinking and talking about these things, then in the same moment, I recall what Big Nan has done, and continues to do.

I wish we could continue to reflect that here, and offer more support.

Your words give me a bit more strength in my disillusionment with it all, though, and are greatly appreciated. I smile with you, look forward to some drinks with old friends tomorrow, and will raise a wee glass to you and Big Nan. All my respect to you both.

  20. FFM

    Thanks again.

If I may, I would like to offer my experience of CQN from decades ago….

I was in the Celtic end of a now deid clubs stadium for a day of music culminating in the Simple Minds. It was the beginning of a love affair with Mike Scott’s music (which was the highlight for me that day). Anyways, between support bands three young fellas wander over the pitch and perform a series of dances and acrobatic tricks for our end of the ground. They were lauded and applauded. So much so that hundreds on the pitch swarmed over and joined them… They, well some of them, continued along the same entertainment lines, but to less effect.

My friends and I realized that in the crowds we lost sight of our original entertaining trio….

Then out by the corner flag we saw them again in splendid isolation…

That was a hint about the power of the internet that was!!! We just didnae realize at the time….

In my opinion a decent exchange of views between you set against commercial and political circumstances we currently find ourselves, wherein our club currently operates, and which is used and twisted by many depending on their agenda. And honestly I don’t disagree with much of what you are saying. Your comments are insightful and thought provoking and they got me thinking on how we and our club got to here. That led me to reflecting on how things have been between club supporters and management historically, and honestly I don’t feel that the current climate or circumstances affecting Celtic and its supporters have changed how supporters are treated by the custodians of the club all that dramatically.

When I first started following the club home and away every week, which would have been in the 1970’s, I never believed that those running the club cared about what I thought or wanted, I didn’t care for them either and I still don’t. I never went in support of them, more despite them really and I just went to see my team in the company of thousands of others that did the same thing. There have always been those that were supportive of whatever management was in place, as there were others who detested it. I always felt that both sides of the arguments had decent points to make, but I have rarely felt that many of them were genuinely and sufficiently engaged with or by the club for their views to make much difference.

That all said, it actually does seem to me that there is more engagement between club and support now than there once was, perhaps through various intermediaries and processes than were not previously available, but I am not convinced that much of the dialogue taking place actually results in outcomes such as the club taking specific directions or initiatives that ordinary supporters are concerned with. Maybe that’s because those that are in charge of the club believe that they know what directions the club should be taking better than we do. However, maybe that’s how they always think and so things haven’t really changed that much at all.

I only get along to a game once in a while now, when I do I am still accompanied by thousands that cheer on those in the green and white hoops that take to the park in the name of Celtic, and I take an interest in anything that’s said, written or sung about my team wherever I see or hear it. That’s the Celtic family that is, although sadly our board and management often feel like uppity distant cousins that feel they know better than the rest of us. And maybe sometimes they do, what do I know?

I didn’t really mean to single out your posts actually, good as they are, because there are loads of great posters on here that I couldn’t even begin to name and that I enjoy reading. I can tell that they have the same interest at heart as me, whether I agree with what they are saying or not.
