Performing with an edge, naked opportunism

1065

If you were a professional football player, you would love to be in the Celtic dressing room tomorrow evening.  You would have the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself; put in a big, meaningful performance.  Record a bit of history and create a uniquely memorable victory.

There are some players who are fraught with anxiety on such occasions, but there are others who NEED these games, need an edge, to reach their peak.  If we have a team full of the latter, Legia are in for a torrid night.

I’m doing my best to ignore the naked opportunism in our media this week.  There is no point complaining about it, lose heavily and you become vulnerable to those who live to revel in a Celtic defeat.  Don’t lose and you don’t give them (friends and foes alike) a chance.

We’ve been here before.  Artmedia, Braga, Utrecht, Sion (despite the reprieve) and Karagandy all exposed an aching heart.  European football is unforgiving, try to transition and you’ll find someone ready to exploit, but that doesn’t mean you are wrong to transition.

We might talk about this transition more later in the month but we have a game to win first.  Can’t wait.

Check out the fantastic work by the cyclists who are taking part in the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014 on 6 September. You can join them – all you need is a bike. Get involved, you’ll be delighted you did, I promise. Read about it here.

I have a SERIOUS dilemma…..if I vote yes, and the yeses get it, the bhuns will all move to England.

If I vote no, and the noes get it , the bhuns will continue to desicrate the Union Jack ….. Guess what way I’m voting. \ o / ….. Hahahaha ……

I mentioned managerial suicide. If he plays Berget then that would be another step towards it in my opinion.

But aye, win, lose or draw I’ll be in Perth the following week :-)

Scotland a ‘sad wee country’? Not to my friends who have made a new life for themselves in Scotland. They adore the beauty and the opportunities.

That would be my starting eleven too. No bombscares. If they all play to their full potential and don’t do anything daft then this is do-able. Legia are very average with no real European pedigree. It’ll be interesting to see how they react if we score first and put them under sustained pressure.

If you trust the SNP to follow their white paper, it’s on Page 3. Independence in place by March 2016 with an election May 2016.

“The Government’s intention is that a constitutional platform will be put in place for Scotland becoming independent in March 2016, immediately prior to the 2016 election campaign. That will ensure that the new Parliament and Government elected in May 2016 have the full range of powers they need to get on with the work of building a better and more socially just Scotland.”

  7. Politics, not my thing. But I will be voting and therefore like to read both sides discussing on here.

One thing I don’t understand is what relevance SNP will be if the vote is in favour of YES. Their whole reason for existing is to gain independence. After that, are we not back to choosing between Cons / Labs / Libs / Others?

Certainly, if I do decide to vote yes, it will certainly be my expectation that Salmond would wield no power in an independent Scotland.

I believe May 2016 is the date. In any case, in a democratic country, elecions do take place on a fairly regular basis; so I don’t see that as a problem.

You’re clearly a very passionate guy and while I disagree, I respect the fact that your stance is based on genuine concerns and not the point scoring others indulge in.

I’m no Salmond (or SNP for that matter) fan, but I think the OBB issue was something most parties would have grabbed given the opportunity due to the political landscape of the country. I don’t like it any more than you do, but I wouldn’t allow it to cloud my view of the bigger picture.

As for the constitution/time limit on power question, I think we need to get over the line first tbh before this is determined – although I accept that the issue could be discussed now in order to have some framework for if/when that time comes. It’s a very interesting and exciting prospect to have. I don’t believe for a second that the SNP will just say ‘Haha, fooled you, we’re in and we’re not moving’. I believe in the people of Scotland enough to ensure anything of the sort would not be allowed to happen.

I will say though, I don’t buy into the vision of some YES voters that everything will suddenly be all rosey either. I believe things may well get worse before they get better, but I also believe they WILL get better than they have been for a while.

None of us can predict the future, but I honestly think we’d be throwing away a huge opportunity. The likelihood is that by staying together we’ll continue to be an outpost of Westminster PLC. I’d hate to look at the next generation in 20 years and wonder if we could have done more for them. What do we say if they ask us why we didn’t grab the opportunity when we had the chance?

Yes, I’d take 1-0 at half time. Then let them sweat and reflect over two missed penalties last weekend and their previous failed attempts to get to the champions league. It could unravel for them

    Weeminger,

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, no ?

So the constitution will be written after an SNP win ?

who will decide on the finalised constitution ? There is no option for a vote on the new constitution it will apparently be imposed prior to the election in May by the same people that introduced the OBB ?

Do you honestly believe a constitution will be agreed in 2 months ?

Sorry pal but that just begs more questions and the threat of an imposed constitution does not bode well for us, the full range of powers to get on with socially just Scotland is all down to interpretation, Israel believes it was justified in slaughtering women and children being used as human shields. Justice is an interpretation.

My worry started at the last match at Murrayfield. Thought we were very ragged generally and clueless in defence.

A constitutional convention is to be called in the event of a yes vote.

Why 2 months don’t understand that point!

  32. SuperSutton

For me, one of the most exciting prospects in an independent Scotland is what new parties might emerge in time, or how the current parties might change. At the moment there really isn’t much to play for. At the moment it’s really a case of who gets to spend the pocket-money handed to us by Westminster, while implementing policies the vast majority never voted for in the first place. For a young Scot interested in politics, the difference between this current option and the possibility of making a real difference that the people want can never be underestimated.
