Performing with an edge, naked opportunism

1065

If you were a professional football player, you would love to be in the Celtic dressing room tomorrow evening.  You would have the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself; put in a big, meaningful performance.  Record a bit of history and create a uniquely memorable victory.

There are some players who are fraught with anxiety on such occasions, but there are others who NEED these games, need an edge, to reach their peak.  If we have a team full of the latter, Legia are in for a torrid night.

I’m doing my best to ignore the naked opportunism in our media this week.  There is no point complaining about it, lose heavily and you become vulnerable to those who live to revel in a Celtic defeat.  Don’t lose and you don’t give them (friends and foes alike) a chance.

We’ve been here before.  Artmedia, Braga, Utrecht, Sion (despite the reprieve) and Karagandy all exposed an aching heart.  European football is unforgiving, try to transition and you’ll find someone ready to exploit, but that doesn’t mean you are wrong to transition.

We might talk about this transition more later in the month but we have a game to win first.  Can’t wait.

Check out the fantastic work by the cyclists who are taking part in the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014 on 6 September. You can join them – all you need is a bike. Get involved, you’ll be delighted you did, I promise. Read about it here.

Celtic probably didn’t want this game on TV in Scotland because they want as many people in the stadium as possible.

It’s all about the money at every level.

In this case I believe the club are doing the right thing.

The more Celtic supporters cheering the team on, the better.

Well this time there is a FOOTBALL benefit.

Agreed but why was this match not on the season ticket as well?

We got compensated for the games, why not reward the fans by putting on buses and at the least giving them this game free as compensation for not having our home ground available?

I’ve never seen you post anything that would label you anything other than a good Tim with concerns.

That’s a different issue entirely and if I gave my feelings about that on here I’d be labelled a Hun!!

On the original point re the game not being televised I think Celtic have got it right.

  9. OK bhoys…I wont rant, but let me put it this way.

You are the CEO of Celtic, you glorify in the warmth generated by the wonderful Celtic fans, you soak up the plaudits.

Then you tell the Celtic fans, that Celtic are one of the top teams in Europe and a CL team.

However, you then refuse to invest in the team, sell all your best players, then replace them with sub standard players.

Now my question is this: is this a man than can be trusted?

You see its very simple…the PLC are in it purely for money.

Its a gravy train with no responsibility for failure.

coining it in hand over fist, while the team gets humiliated.

I share your frustration dude – feels like we’re treading water. Only way out I can see is if/when Euro football is restructured financially to make sure every team has a fair crack at the whip.

Anyways – I’m looking forward to tonight. Atmosphere at the last game at Murrayfield was great. Hopefully the rain will go away and allow the fans to have another good day out. And hopefully we will score a goal or two before half-time to give ourselves a chance of redemption.

  11. Snake Plissken –

If it was just about money, Celtic would have sold the TV rights and got a lot more money than they will get by not selling the TV rights.

Last week Celtic were being criticized on here for selling tickets to UK based Legia supporters. The argument was that we should be concentrating on filling the stadium with Celtic fans to help the team.

Now Celtic refuse to take the TV bucks, preferring to get as many Celtic supporters in the stadium as possible, and they are still being slaughtered.

You can’t have it both ways.

    4-0 Celtic.

  12. The demonisation of the board and of PL might give some short term comfort for those fond of the blame game but unless it is followed up by some plan of action to remove the board and replace them with a credible alternative then it’s all just online gum bumping with no focus or purpose. There is already a substantial gap between the support and the board and to me unless bridges are built across that gap it will continue to grow.

The constant outpouring of negativity on here does nothing that I can see to cross that gap and again to me sow even deeper seeds of discontent among good Tims on here causing further division and acrimony.

I ask myself often what Celtic means to me, it means a sense of family and togetherness through good times and bad so until somebody here has a plan say like a Celts for Change 2 how about giving a rest especially on the day of a huge game that we need to win. Win as a team lose as a team, warts and all CSC.

Obviously I hope this one goes better than the one about 15 months ago.

And I have no doubt it will, bud.

But I have a cunning plan.

How about the lads turn up at your place and carry you along on a gurney?

You can make your own way home,as I reckon the gurney might be a bit popular later!

    Anyway,fingers crossed it’s a success,mate. Bloody nightmare you’ve had.

  15. G67- agree but i think GMS was average last season and too lightweight,i would look elsewhere for a wide player mate.

Can you remember that Bar we were in when we got back to Edinburgh from the racing at Musselburgh, I think it was in West Register St and it was called the Cafe Royal, Am I correct,

    I liked that bar.

  17. blantyretim

Just spoke to him a minute ago re time and suchlike, mentioned the Cafe Royal for a drink, and by the time I had stopped talking to him he had googled the bar and says he’ll see me there,.I was right it is in West Register St.hopefully it will be a bit quieter than the other bars I frequent when in Edinburgh, but there again it’s festival time and an extra 40.000 + mad footy fans

  19. As I wasn’t at the first game at Murrayfield I have no idea of travelling times. So if my bus leaves at half 4 what time should I expect to be in Edinburgh at?

  20. What im really talking about is ineptitude.

If you believe that Celtic should be in the CL, how can you possibly approach that proposition by weakening the team, I truly don’t get it.

    What is the point.

Celtic, with a seemingly vital CL qualifying campaign, rent CP for the Commonwealth Games, and decide to play at Murrayfield.

Meanwhile….the whole team is seemingly up for grabs, any bid is welcomed.

The PLC part with a decent manager, refuse to invest in the team, then take a mega risk on an untested manager, because you can pay him less than the previous one.

Its like a bad soap opera, a carousel of high salaries and failure, an accident waiting to happen.

David Lynch could write the screenplay.

And who is responsible for deliberately diluting the greatness of Celtic?

Could it be the PLC by any chance.

Sack the Board….No Brown Brogues or Aprons at CP

Reading glasgow curse, anyone else read ? Whats the opinions on the whole lobban, ferris thompson stuff in glasgow.

This my first book on it , seems decent but i asked my glasgow mate and he said rumours were lobban was tout, reading his book he accuses ferris of being one.

Lobban had one hell of a violent sad upbringing by sounds of it.
