Pour some ‘Best wee country’ syrup down your throat

273

Whatever former Scotland manager Craig Levein tells the media about referees’ behaviour will not come as news to you.  As Dundee United boss in 2008 he faced Rangers and was so incensed by the behaviour of referee, Mike McCurry, his reaction cost him a £5k SFA fine.

This is Scotland, it is not news, it is not even noteworthy.  The reaction from sections of the media and referees since a Celtic goal on Thursday tells you all you need to know.  Let them pour some more ‘Best wee country’ syrup down your throat while they are at it.  My only flag is green and white.

I wonder who interceded on behalf of the huns?

Perhaps a wee Scoddish politician had a wee word with a friend connected to the French establishment?

    Mmmmm!

Lol.dunno what is funnier the above paranoia or Paul’s leader which enables such drivel

And as per usual Paul plenty of comment about what everybody and their mammy are saying of Celtic.

  5. A criminal complaint against Bellingham by the referee observer

“ Within the bylaws of the DFB (German FA), Bellingham’s remark could be considered verbal insult and defamation towards Zwayer (the ref) and the DFB, and is thus pursuable as a legal issue from the DFB.”

  6. Levein is spot on regard referees being allowed to pick their last game before retiring , I drank with a Grade 1 referee who took great pleasure in telling everyone in the pub his last game before retiring would be at the Victorian lavatory .

  7. No surprises that Levein has spoken out

Unfortunately everyone is going to want to be heard now and all this is playing out against a backdrop of a vital 3 points “won” by a “poor decision” last Thursday.

  14. Rainjurz had cheating off to a fine art and we know how that worked out. Mike McCurry teaches simply the best to kids and has become a celebrity of the darkside, tuped over.

Sevco meanwhile even have GLIB Dave King frantic over his worthless 65,000,000 shares, contradicting them on every issue, their current board are more staunch than dead Rainjurs and they could start a fight in an empty big hoose. The SFA is all they have, and when Celtic look like a threat, the sabres start rattling.

The French govt announcement ‘Beggars belief’ or that a football club wouldn’t step in and advise ‘stay home prevent a bear from any Gendarme.’

Sevco are now doomed knowing the follow follow brigade are left in an ‘impossible situation’ which is bear code for there may be trouble ahead, just like they said about George Square ?

Dave King makes me chuckle. He fell out with Sir Minty years back, and now he doesn’t appear to be too chuffed with the current Ibrox board. Voted against someone or other recently, apparently. When it’s not Dave’s ball he just takes the huff.

  22. Honest Dave

    ———————-

Former Rangers chairman Dave King has let rip at the current regime over their decision to bar Chris Sutton from broadcasting at Ibrox.

The 66-year-old has been irked by the club’s hardline stance on the Englishman and others, branding it “completely unbecoming” of the Ibrox ethos.

The Celtic icon has been left on the outside looking in for two Europa League clashes while working for BT Sport, with the club citing health and safety reasons.

Rangers’ most recent decision to keep Sutton out against Sparta Prague led to a strongly worded message being issued by the broadcasters on air as they insisted they will not be dictated to moving forward. This followed after they moved their whole broadcast team to Celtic Park.

King admits he has been left unhappy with how the current decision makers have handled the Parkhead legend, as well as others in recent times.

Speaking to the Scottish Daily Mail, he said: “The idea that the club can silence challenging supporters, reporters and regulatory authorities is not only wrong, it is completely unbecoming of Rangers.

“Rangers should be a leader in standing up for individual rights and opinions, even if they don’t agree with them.

“I have not been the beneficiary of kind comment from Chris Sutton but I would never even remotely consider the possibility of banishing him from our stadium and using health and safety arguments as justification. We should be bigger than that.”

It’s the second swipe from King at the board in as many days. He told Record Sport on Sunday he had to vote against director Graeme Park because it was his moral duty.

Making them professional and paying them a lot of money isn’t the worst shout. Not this bunch but a better group who could be attracted with the promise of a decent livelihood. It would need fully professional a structure though :(

Part-time refs who don’t face losing anything when they make “mistakes” is a complete anomaly in a fully professional game.

They don’t care, and why should they?

  24. I see the French have done a u-turn on the sevco fan ban.

If the Minister called Philippe Phelope?

  25. Disillusioned Steve Conroy has quit as a top-class referee in Scotland.

The 45-year-old notified the Scottish Football Association of his decision to resign after being overlooked for a top-flight match for three months.

Conroy refused to comment on his decision but it is believed he is considering legal action against the SFA’s referee department.

His last Scottish Premier League match was the controversial Rangers-Dunfermline game on 3 December.

This was the game in which Conroy, a category one official for 12 years, awarded Rangers a spot-kick after Sone Aluko went down inside the box under a challenge from Martin Hardie.

An SFA fast-track tribunal subsequently banned Aluko for two matches for diving, a decision that infuriated Rangers manager Ally McCoist.

“The three gentlemen on the panel have effectively called my player a cheat and a liar, neither of which he is,” he said.

“It’s an absolutely incredible decision, given that the referee is literally five yards from the incident.

“The panel agreed there was contact, so for them to uphold the decision and go against their own referee, who had a particularly good game, is ridiculous.”

That Ibrox fixture was Conroy’s eighth and last top-flight fixture this season as he has since been sent to the lower leagues to officiate.

The referee supervisor at Ibrox that day was Donald McVicar, the former SFA head of referees, who complimented Conroy’s performance immediately after the game.

Conroy, a doctor by profession, decided to end his career when he was allocated Saturday’s Third Division fixture between Berwick Rangers and Queen’s Park.

Only two years ago he was given the responsibility of refereeing the New Year Old Firm derby.

He was regularly seen as the man in the middle of other high-profile matches, including the Edinburgh derby between Hearts and Hibernian.

Conroy, who became a referee in 1993 and achieved category one status in 2000, is highly respected by managers and players in the Scottish game, particularly for his communication with players.

He is regularly at the lower end of the red and yellow card table.

He has taken charge of close to 300 senior matches, including almost 100 in the SPL, as a category one referee.

  26. If they go full time though, they will need to declare their earnings, and Mr Ross wont be able to claim his MPs expenses.

  27. I’ve only watched the Kyogo goal once, live when it was scored. Surely the fact that there has been so much scrutiny of it confirms it was a very close call and right or wrong the officials called it as they saw it. End of.

    Great memories.

I was at Dens, a couple of weeks ago for the first time since the early 70’s , when my oldest brother, who regularly took me to away games , took me there.

I remember after the game. He left me outside a pub , while he had a pint before catching the train home.

A couple of Dundee supporters decided to give my head a skelp as they passed by.

    They were the days.
