Results in preseason friendlies are (fortunately) notoriously unreliable indicators of results in competitive games, but Celtic will be alarmed at the scale of the deficit against Greuther Fuerth, from the German second tier, especially after reversals against Sevastopol and Cluj. Clubs from Ukraine, Romania and Germany are apparently organised, even during the summer months.
Next week’s game against Cliftonville is Celtic’s first test, but they will come thick and fast from now on.
Losing a friendly 6-2 brought an unwelcome feeling. Then I wondered how it would have felt to lose a competitive game by the same score to a major rival. Ouch. Made me feel a little better.

Id expect it given we kind of knew he would be away but it could be the usual leaving it to the last minute maybe even missing a few CL deadlines before getting someone in, risky business.

Sorry for upsetting your mood on such a glorious day.
Not in the slightest.
As a “been there and done that”,I had waited for the opportunity to make that suggestion when you were online.

Exactly the point I was making, we can bring in young guys like Vic and Ki and when they get the chance they will move to the EPL and why wouldn’t they it’s one of the top four leagues in Europe and what professional doesn’t want to better himself?
I doubt if Scotland is in the top ten leagues anymore apart from Celtic what have we got, not a lot and I think that’s why our model has to be the way it is, people always cry out at this time of year for quality and the club showing some ambition but what player playing in a decent league would step down to play in Scotland even if it is for Celtic, we can offer the CL but we have to qualify first and this year we have three qualifiers.
Reality bites Scottish football is a backwater and has been for years.
Good luck Victor I enjoyed watching you in the Hoops..
HT. 800,000 a player like that comes round once in a blue moon. That’s a bit like saying. Lets go back to feyenord with 650,000 and ask them to give us another Henk
Scully. Lost me there. I just wanted us to keep Vic as we have no midfield. Whats that got to do with spending billions like Southampton
Lost me. Just want us to have a midfield and compete

Uruguay have some excellent players —-Nico Lopez/ Avenati.
French players ——-Thauvin [ signed for Lille – 3.5 million euros ] and the excellent Lucas Digne [ currently being fought over by PSG and Monaco].

I’d have preferred Victor to have stayed another season but there ain’t no point in keeping any player that doesn’t want to be there.
I remain hopeful that sufficient funds will be made available to secure a suitable replacement.
Am I right in thinking with Croatia now in the EU that should open up more players to us as as work permits not needed?

HT. good luck. We have spent 5m of that already on projects leaving very little for Neil
Remember that our KPI is zero debt. Vic transfer has assured that for another 12 months, what happens on the park is irrelevant to Celtic Plc :((((

“Think a lot of fans are not happy with the vic situation is that we have now no midfield and Neil will not get much of the cash to strengthen.”
I’d like Victor to stay, but it appears he’s for the off and the club have been aware of this possibility for a wee while.
But how do you know a replacement hasn’t been lined up?

no one knows ..at least no one on here ….if a replacement ha been lined up
however…for the moment our midfield is a shambles without Vic and the injued Brown and Ledley
we have a CL qualifier in a few days …is there a signing deadline ?..will a new signing be eligible ?
our European campaigns of late are either atrocious or spectacular…im not overly confident of the latter at this time

The manager cant cope with a play maker unless he can defend, thats how Chico Muldini is the current playmaker.

Italian clubs have been snapping up teenagers from Croatia .
The most outstanding example is Roma paying 5 million euros for a 17 year old centre half from Dinamo Zagreb —–Tin Jedvaj.

Give up on the golf, never. Who else would you get to carry you in the CQN doubles?
I see I’ve been drawn against that Ryan o Toole in the singles.
What, oh I see O Donnell, Freudian slip.
I was in the Savannah bar, which has some frightfully fetching young buxom barmaids, last night with Manolis.
When he returned from the bar he was a bit upset as apparently, under the spell of the well developed young lady, Manolis had had ordered two jugs of lager and a packet of t@ts.
I explained to concept of the Freudian slip and how indeed only that morning MrsEC67, when wishing to say, “pass the honey, darling”, had mistakenly exclaimed to me ” you’ve ruined ma life ya fat bassa”!

ST/HT,
The Israeli player that I mentioned yesterday, Avihai Yadin, would cost between £800K and £1M, so might be the perfect replacement for Vic.

I saw Spurs linked with two kids last week for 20m, madness, seems its went a bit like the market for Argentinian kids, going for them younger and the prices going up as well.

I remember after the Ajax game last summer some people on here were acting like it was the end of the world – I’m not sure we won any pre-season games last year.
We won all our qualifiers though, the games that really mattered, and we went further in the Champions League than Ajax did.
I am confident plans are in place to bring in a new player if Victor leaves, although I wouldn’t play any new signing in next week’s game. Best to go with settled players in these matches.
In the meantime we have plenty of midfielders in the squad. If they haven’t played yet there is still time for them to be fit for the Cliftonville games.
I’m not stressed about it to be honest.
I don’t think anyone really knows what we have spent on Virgil & Amido. Virgil was a “reputed 2.5 million”, Amido was a “reputed” 1.5 million but later stories threw major doubt on this figure and it was revised to something like 700/900 thousand. When the net cash from the Wanyama deal hits the accounts it will look more like 11 million tops. I reckon we will be net in funds over the 2 buys and 1 sale of somewhere between 7 & 8 million. With at this stage 7 off and 3 on (incl Myo) the wage bill, we should have a net reduction on this bill as well.
South of Tunis,
You could be right.
agree about Uruguay and south america for talent.
Boghassain and Battega a few years ago had enormous potential. Still think Joaquin Boghassain has.
Always thought why nobody took a punt on Alvaro Rios defensive mid. Runs all day, breaks up play. Think he is quality.
Sebastien Boesnich is another one i though we missed boat on when he was at Werder Bremen for full back.
Not as happy as me DBBK, the legend that is Bertie Auld just passed me.
