Putting fire in Dundee bellies

177

Dundee really need to lawyer up over SPFL disciplinary procedures against them for problems with their pitch, leading to their game against Newco being postponed twice.  The game should have been scheduled for Wednesday 3 April, instead of the last midweek before the league split.

Not scheduling a game until the last possible date before the split, makes whoever made that decision culpable for the subsequent postponement and consequential delay to post-split fixture confirmation.  There is no legitimate reason the game was not scheduled for 3 April – only one very illegitimate act.

3 April was four days before Celtic’s visit to Ibrox.  Dundee were happy to play the game then, Newco wanted a clear midweek before facing Celtic, so wanted their Dens fixture after facing Celtic.  Newco and their acolytes got their way.

I don’t mind clubs having an influence over when rearranged fixtures are scheduled.  Would you want a game a few days before a cup final or Champions League match?  Of course not.  Where appropriate, the League should accommodate.

On this occasion, the League were too accommodating to Newco.  By delaying the game until 10 April, their post-split fixture plans were at the mercy of a sudden downpour – or even the away side encountering trouble on their journey to the game, as happened earlier this season, when Newco travelled to Dens.

A problem on the 10 April was not certain but the possibility must have been known by the League when they acquiesced to Newco’s wishes.  And for what it’s worth, I expect Newco’s belligerence since the game was postponed on Wednesday will put fire in the Dundee bellies when the teams eventually meet.

In the two months since Celtic beat St Mirren in Paisley in the Scottish Cup, the Saints have lost to Livingston, shipped five at Kilmarnock, lost to Hearts, and drawn with Ross County and Motherwell.  Their only wins in this period came over St Johnstone and Aberdeen, when they were behind for an impressive 95 minutes before Neil Warnock’s magic touch came into effect in the 96th minute.  The champions should have too much tomorrow.

At tomorrow’s game, look out for Eurochamps67’s (Alex McKillop) mention on the big screens.

  4. Dear God.Never learn some of our fans.Love to slaughter players, after a couple of games, especially the foreign players.New country, manager, team mates, style of play, settling in mentally.Nope,no time for any of that bollox. He is useless.

The bigger act of stupidity is to have a new foreign player who in 35 appearances,scores11 goals and 13 assists,2 of the goals in the CL,a fraction away from 3 ,and gets talked down by some of these fans.Same fans who worry how he will replace Maeda,32 appearances,9 goals,3 assists..

We dont need the media talking down our team or players,we really have enough of our own.

Anyone else hear double entendres every time Nick Faldo talks about his caddy?

    —————

I remember England in the 98 World Cup, the commentator saying after a Tony Adams pass back (or one of theirother defenders) “Adam’s stretching, wanting Seaman to come out”. Childish and idiotic, but I couldn’t help but laugh and store the memory. 😂😂😂

  6. garygillespieshamstring on

Was it Nayim who was the most virile player in the world as he could lob Seaman over 50 yards?

  7. Looking forward to later vs St Mirren

  8. What is it about broadcasters and journalists called Ewen or Ewan Murray.

One is the most boring pundit ever to comment on the Masters in Augusta, God knows why they hire him, apart from maybe wanting somebody more than capable of stating the bleeding obvious and the other who writes for the right of centre Guardian, the most boring journo ever to put pen to paper. No wonder their sales have plummeted if he’s the best sportswriter they can come up with.

    Bring back Gonzo!

  9. Only fourteen players under par at Augusta today.

A Swede and a Dane in good shape but I think the Americans will still have the edge of the last two rounds.

  11. Wish the Brendan and the team best of luck today – three points and a boost to the goal difference is what we need.

    Hail Hail to all

  12. From the Guardian:

“TURKISH SUPER LIG MAKES VAR SOS

Controversy is never too far away in the Turkish Super Lig and, with games this season marred by violence towards officials (for context: a referee was punched in the face by a club president in December), the league has taken the step of assigning foreign VARs to “critical” games for the rest of the campaign.

Title-chasing Fenerbahce – who are second, two points behind Galatasaray – have aired accusations of bias, so VARs will now be selected from overseas. Handily, given the Turkish FA want a little less on-field controversy, Howard Webb and the denizens of Stockley Park will not be involved – officials from Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands have been handed the jobs after the nations’ respective federations gave the collective green light.”

So it can happen then, por cierto

  13. Top of the morning Bhoys let’s put on a show today and win the match a couple of nice early goals and some minutes in the legs for key men and some freshness later in the match hopefully today 👊🍀

  14. Good morning all from a dry at the moment 5 degree Garngad.

Sitting downstairs having a lovely Americano and she (who must be obeyed) screaming like a banshee upstairs.

I make my way up and she is in shower saying the water is not that warm….wtf I thought something had happened. Wummin..

We got the whole toilet done last year upstairs and it’s a thermostatic shower.

I explained “Darling I am no plumber and if you have tried turning hot water up and nothing then the plumber will be up next week” or words to that effect.

She said it is warm just not warm enough ffs WUMMIN. I had a shower before her and it was fine.

    Too bliddy heavy handed.

Anyway, any win will do but I have went for 5 – 1.

    Interesting comment from the Fenerbahce President in that BBC report;

“an underground network in Turkey was deciding matches….”

Mmmm think we’ve got one of our own in Scotland…

  16. Still no word from the media or from last week’s hosts on the biggest story in our game with regards the misslies thrown at our players after a goal and our bench.

Other clubs have made it known ie Aberdeen that VAR is not being used correctly.

Yet the narrative has been all about Dundee being the biggest culprits and being made out to be the villan this week in our game total deflection tactic and not called out by any apart from the fans media channels.

All clubs needs to get on to this corrupt shower of so called leaders of our game and biased media.

  17. @Celticmad 💯 and is starrring us all in the face each week !!!

Crazy here and the madness and the things that happen in our game weekly is shocking can you imagine if we’d been hosts and the ones signing racist songs and constantly causing issues whilst hosting matches it has clearly got worse since 2018 when Leigh Griffiths was booked for picking up a a battery and giving it to the ref the same game a fan ran on and attacked Broony no deternet so the bad behaviour continues.

But the media sweep it under the carpet yet again and talk is about a silly quote from the sevco manager of games being played on Mars if need be !!!

Instead of the real issues here VAR & bad fan behaviour and pen kick and free kick anomalies in our league!!!

  18. It’s like living in Moscow with the kremlin[ibrox] line followed entirely, no pushbacks when obvious opportunities present themselves klement talks about owScottish football looks ,yet he has nothing to say on a diving cheat, nothing on bottles and missiles being thrown at staff and players of celtic last Sunday and anti Catholic songs sung with gusto throughout the game, change Catholic to Jewish or Muslim, what response would this provoke from Government local and national councils police? Yet here nothing it’s seen as cultural maybe they should stick posters up at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports saying this is our culture enjoy your visit. Shameful on all of them they’re as bad as the scumbags who do this.

  19. And many are on the public payroll and receive taxpayer handouts show racism the red card what a waste of public funds that is.

  20. !!Bada Bing!! on

Interesting that the Head of Referees in Turkey, is one Hugh Dallas, bought and paid for again?

  21. Was just listening to ‘Saturday Live’ on Radio 4. One of the guests was David Duke, who has played in the Homeless World Cup for Scotland and is the Founder of ‘Street Soccer Scotland’ Had to laugh when one of the guests chose ‘Simply The Best’ as their Inspiration Track, and he commented well that is a favourite of a team in Scotland which I absolutely do not support. Celtic being his own team. Great to hear him on the ol’ wireless.

  22. The refereeing thing in Turkey, not too dissimilar to our problem. For a long time,Galatasaray, from the Asian side of the Bosphoros,Islamic mostly, were the Establishment team.Fenerbahce, more relaxed in that department attracted a much less religious based support. This led to quite similar experiences to what we are used to.Last week they fielded their youth team in a Cup Final, and then walked off after a few minutes.A few weeks previously, they threatened to quit the league, saying they would ballot their support, before making the decision. The Referee thing is an Olive branch by the looks of it from the Turkish FA to restore order. No next season promises, starts with the next round of fixtures.

My Turkish is not good enough to pick up every nuance, but that’s what I picked up from it.
