Rebellious behaviour will last for years

916

It will surprise no one that Uefa have charged our football club with “the displaying of an offensive banner and setting off of fireworks [sic]by fans”, this action was as inevitable as the dawn.  At least some of our number believes setting off flares in a football stadium is a reasonable action and that provoking European football’s governing body is a smart thing to do.

In terms of protest, “**** Uefa” is not quite up there with Martin Luther’s Thesis or what we’ve witnessed in the Arab world this year.  It’s simple rebellious behaviour, which some of us are compelled by in our teens and a few take a long time to shake off.

Forget calls to self-police, I’ve never seen it work with a football support.  Ever.  If you think you are going to convince anyone the folly of profane banners, flares or even IRA chanting at a football game, save your breath.  Those who are up for the protest (whatever the subject is) are more likely to find your call for restraint as complicity.

This series of protest and consequence will run for years, will split the support and damage Celtic.  Neither the club nor the support has the leadership to do anything about it.  Copy and paste the thoughts you write on the subject, you can use them again without having to retype.

I think someone said none if our players are anywhere near a suspension, unless of course we see red against Billmarnock.

The board have been sayiong for FIFTEEN YEARS they want certain songs to stop. How can they defend us being busted for those songs being sung? Who are you mad at? The board for 15 years of consistency or the guys who were warned time and again that this WOULD happen and so it came to pass?

On the latest issue: if the banner had read “**** the SFA” “**** the Queen” or “**** the Huns” all would have run the risk of getting us into trouble. You see that right? UEFA sell worldwide rights, broadcasters don’t want to broadcast taboo words like that into people’s home. If the banner had said “UEFA are wrong” I don’t think that’d have caused a murmur.

A married couple had been out shopping at the mall for most of the afternoon, suddenly, the wife realized that her husband had “disappeared”.

The somewhat irate spouse called her mate’s cell phone and demanded: “Where the hell are you?”

Husband: “Darling you remember that Jewelry shop where you saw the Diamond Necklace and totally fell in love with it and I didn’t have money that time and said Baby it’ll be yours one day.”

Wife, with a smile blushing: “Yes, I remember that my Love.”

“The board have been sayiong for FIFTEEN YEARS they want certain songs to stop.”

Incredibly, in all that time, they have never named the songs.

I mean to say, how can you ask supporters not to break a law when you do not spell out exactly what constitues an offence under that law. Not only are they keeping us in ignorance, they are treating us with utter contempt. Do not be suprised when that contempt is reciprocated. And maybe there is much more to come. The board are the problem, not the supporters.

  11. Sad state of affairs when we are gaining momentum, mounting a decent challenge and it looks like they really are in melt down with historic and current tax debt.

On the pitch is as good as it has been with a young squad, off the field we have our support conspiring once more to derail the train…….

Just as it did with GS when they mumped and moaned when we were on the bringk of 4 in a row history, abusing GS, Naylor, Caldwell and anyone else rather than getting behind the club……the self destruct button is being pressed again just as we have got it together again….

Rangers have many advantages which are bestowed on them…..just look at the refs for next week, the media from the weekend….

Sadly we have many disadvantages such as our many ‘malcontents’ who are much happier moaning and whinging and complaining and fighting some cause, than actually winning or being in the ascendancy……of course it is not the only reason Rangers win more, but it might just be a reason we win a lot less than we should, and will probably continue to do so.

Sure the board failed to grasp the nettle in 2004 and plan the escape route out of this pathetic little provincial league when we had a strong hand, Sure the previous and current chairs seem vastly underqualified for the task compared with the much ridicules Brian Quinn.

Sure the owners seem happy to ‘manage’ and ‘milk’ the situation rather than apply strategic thinking to get out of our current box….although it seems we have a good and tradable young squad emerging, which bodes well in times of hardship.

I would still rather we had our board in charge than the one at ibrox for the last 10 years.

However their outfit have galvanised, taken their naturally bestowed benefits and got on with winning over the past few seasons as we are yet again set on scoring more own goals.

Core to the problem is the kind of culture which revels in hurling abuse at any establishment figures or authority, that rebels and seeks to always have that chip on both shoulders…..

The fellow with the incredibly stupid banner is either a thicko or knew exactly what he was doing and is seeking to undermine the club……

No one could really be that thick ?

    Re the singing

If the Celtic fans never sang another another add on at football games ,would ANYONE miss them .No really ,think about it would anyone miss the add ons .

IMO the only peepil that would miss Celtic fans singing add ons will be our enemies as they would have to find another way to drag us into their gutter .

May I also suggest that the Celtic fans use a bit of savvy here ,why don’t we stop the add ons and keep a precise record of events as they begin to unfold .

If they come after another song or symbol ,take note and use all available outlets to push a constructive debate .

Were Uefa was a friend and ally in our eyes whilst they were the only ones punishing certain peepil for their bile ,we now seem to be viewing them with sum sort of hostility ,who would be happy at this ,certain peepil perhaps .Anyone seeing a pattern here .

One week after we are fined by Uefa a certain person makes a very public appearance at a Scottish football ground 8 days before the Glasgow derby ,anyone think this is just a coincidence ,well I for one don’t think it is ,why him?,why now?.

Elsewhere you would think certain peepil had totally cleaned up their act but have they (not according to some people )but the powers that be are only too happy with US playing right into their trap and will be rubbing their white gloves with the thought of us all infighting and not getting ourselves sorted out to foil their biggest trap yet the 28TH ,yes bhoys IMO this is the big one for them and their ace is that we lash out at everyone over what’s went on in the last month and who could blame them ,we are blaming

nothing good will come of bringing this argument out in the open. its a relatively small problem that will be turned into a huge one and will split the fans, possibly forever.

Bob Kelly and others had their dtractors and abusers too, as did Wullie Maley…….My Father enjoyed nine in a row with me but often said many of his pals seemed less happy than the previous nine years when they had plenty to moan about on a Saturday and won virtually nothing.

Sadly this has not changed too much.

There’s some truth in that. It’s the sense of entitlement that becomes self fulfilling.

We have RTC and his co-operative of researchers digging muck on Rangers misdeeds. Their efforts may already have exposed information that could lead to criminal prosecutions. PMcGB has his sources exposing anti-Catholic bias in the SFA. We have PMcC? going past the actions of Rangers and getting the Scottish Nazi Party in his sights. Paul67 is toiling away covering all the bases, promoting Celtic and doing down the forces that would do us wrong. They are today’s rebels. They are the ones sticking it to the man (if you’ll excuse the 60s terminology) The bunch of intellectual pygmies that came up with **** UEFA are an embarrassment. If they, or people trying to turn their actions into a political movement, expect Celtic fans to get behind them, they are insulting our intelligence.

Awe Naw and Mike in Toronto,

I’m getting the vibe that my posts/aims are being misunderstood,

a failure on my part for not articulating well enough.

My wish is not to be divisive, our board, the meedja etc do that well enough,

what i am trying to urge, as with yourself Mike, is a return in focus toward,

the very principles that we have known and cherished of our club,

that which i have sadly watched slip away over the last decade or so, in the favour of coin.

In doing so i am looking for the common ground and that which unites us,

as opposed to the media/club led arguments of the day.

Obviously naivety on my part, but i always presumed these principles were or

at least should be everyone’s understanding of what Celtic is and that this would/should come to the surface

    in these times.

For me choosing to do nothing is no choice at all.

    – – – – – – –

Awe Naw – I agree that newco hun will be the tipping point but completely disagree as to ‘THE ONLY SHOW IN TOWN’

The very elements which would kick us off at that that time, are the very elements which are and have been

blatantly dismissed by the board lately and over the last years.

Selectivity of when principles are applied is no principles at all !

  34. Maybe the boards muted reaction to the singing at the Rennes game was due to the fact that the club themselves had been playing the offending song of the tannoy before games.
