Referring to a team no longer with us

753

Let’s be clear, you cannot punish a player on the basis that he has made a comment which is only offensive, offence is subjective, highly so in Scottish football, where thousands await the opportunity.

Nor can you punish a player for a derogatory remark which may offend, especially if the remark does not call into question the probity of the subject.  “Hearts are rotten, we beat them easily twice this season”, is a derogatory remark and will offend some Hearts fans, but it also falls into the category of being a fair opinion.

And without pointing out the obvious, you cannot offend the dead.  John Guidetti and the club are right to contest this ridiculous charge, which by context, clearly refers to a team no longer with us.

I was absolutely astonished to read that newco (and former oldco) director, Paul Murray, explained Dave King’s absence from newco’s recent share as he is waiting until the SFA “have completed their review of Dave’s status before he can fully participate in the future of the Club”.

The SFA have no issue whatsoever in Dave King investing heavily in newco, or in owning all shares.  Indeed, King is already the largest shareholder, which has attracted no attention from the football authorities.

The prospect of King sloping off if the SFA judge him not Fit and Proper (which I think they will), is a fabulous twist in the work of this legendary non-executive director of a dead club.  He sat on the oldco board which paid EBTs for so many years, he stayed while they made no provision for the HMRC tax case, plunging into the transfer market instead.  Now he awaits the whim of the SFA before deciding to invest, having led newco away from their primary source of funding.

What a star.

as you say the referendum has gone, but to think all Yes voters were SNP supporters is simply wrong,Ed Milliband was in my constituency yesterday trying to boost the Labour vote, they may lose a seat that they held with a thumping majority in the last election, every one of my family have voted labour until this election, not one intend voting for them this time, although I don’t know who they will vote for,if at all,its not Salmond that Labour should worry about ,its their own party

RST are dedicated to removing all forms of sectarianism from Scotland, when they’re not tweeting pictures of the prophet Mohammed performing sexual acts.

  13. I think I’m right in saying only one person has been convicted as a result of the use of the word hun and that was Michael Devlin who wore a T shirt with the word on it.

    Devlin pled guilty.

No individual who’s pled not guilty has been convicted.

Sir John’s surname was responsible for a popular football quiz question of the seventies. “What is Bob Wilson’s middle name?”

*was coming back from playing a game against Rolls Royce Blantyre and we were listening to the scores on the van radio, we had already clinched 7 IAR which overtook the previous record of 6 IAR which we held.

The sportscaster reading out the results was the Chesterfield born former Scotland goalie.

He read out the “score that the whole of Scotland has been waiting for, hearts 4 Celtic 1” quite enthusiastically.

The sportscaster was the grandson of the man who played the goatshaggin and orange card.

glasstwothirdsfull-King is playing brinkmanship with Regan, seeing if he has the cojones to apply the rules, or back down to the threats from the hun hordes. They have already won their case IMO, by not contesting Paul Murray as temp Chairman, he is in the same boat as King re Deidco.HH

As far as I am aware,Murray was not on the board when the Huns died.He had been bumped by White before the blessed day.No problems for him being the “Big cheese””Head Honcho””Numero Uno”,”Big Chief”.

Rangers Supporters Trust spoke out after the 22-year-old was issued with a Scottish Football Association notice of complaint following an interview on Dutch TV show FC Rijnmond earlier this month.

During the broadcast he repeated a chant sung about him by supporters featuring the line “the h*** are deid”.

  17. Just read that statement. You wonder how their minds(?)work. By the bye, what charities apart I presume from Show Racism the Red card have claimed that hun is sectarian?

I take these same people are first in line to to condemn the Famine Song and the Billy Boys.

  18. the exiled tim

I don’t see Celtic getting involved with this, it’s a powder keg, and a stitch up, they need to tread very carefully here, I would leave it to the fans to be honest, the HUN board are not involved, so it’s fan against fan, and if it comes to cleverness and brains, I know who my money would be on, now the Celtic trust or supporters associatin should step in and take them on, as I said the HUN board are not involved, it’s the supporters of the HUNS that are making it personal, are the leaders of our supporters up for it? Or are we just gonny keep hiding behind PL and pointing fingers saying, they said this about us, NAW, am sorry, time we stole up and got tore in on our own, in a dignified way by the way.
