Regan footloose and disingenuous with the facts

456

Stewart Regan is today telling the media that only one club wants a review of what happened at Rangers during recent SFA president Campbell Ogilvie’s tenure as a director of the club. I think we can amend that slightly to read: only one LEAGUE of 42 professional clubs want a review of what happened.

It is utterly disingenuous for the SFA chief executive to portray the SPFL’s request for a review as a one-club issue. Regan is seeking protection in the amateur clubs’ numbers, ALL OF WHOM receive patronage from the SFA, against the wishes of the country’s only professional league.

You will remember how Sepp Blatter used the power of patronage with tiny Fifa nations to secure his grip on due process. Fifa money was spent and magnificent stadiums built where football scarcely had a foothold at the whim of Blatter, who enjoyed unquestioning support from micro-nations’ Associations.

When a chief executive uses the numbers in the amateur game, to outweigh the wishes of the 42 club professional league, for a review into what took place while a recent past president was a director at an errant club, you have all the ingredients for an abuse of patronage.

Stewart, all we’re asking for is a review, don’t pretend the country’s only professional league structure doesn’t exist.

  1. I am all for leaving as well but realistically where can we go?

if there was an out we would have taken it by now, we have well out grown the game up here and take us out of the equation and you have not much better than the Swedish League, if they are all happy to get behind the cheats then leave them to it.

But where do we go? or are we working our ticket just now and regan is playing into our hands?

  2. WEEBOBBYCOLLINS:

Here’s the thing … if our supporters turn up at every away ground this season, in the kind of numbers they do, then the message that sends out is very, very clear.

These people can screw us with impunity. When even our own fans – the people who suffered most through all the cheating, who endured days like Black Sunday and others, funded on corruption – when even they will not do what’s necessary then why should anyone else?

Of all the days of the last five years, and there have been setbacks galore along the way, this is the most disheartening. This is the one that will sting for the longest time.

And I wonder just how committed many of us are to getting a win.

  3. It is no great surprise that Hibs are against having a review or inquiry.

The money men behind them are part of the same Edinburgh cabal that includes Murray, Grossart and no doubt Budge.

Football is but a small part of a much bigger scandal, the relationships between a select group of business people and the Edinburgh based banks.

These are powerful forces that do not want the light of day to be shone on their dealings. Murray for example was a small time metal dealer who ended up owing nearly £1 billion to the bank. No wonder the Ibrox board expected him to add the Huns little matter of another £100 million to that tab.

As regards the MSM, practically all of them are either in Murray’s pocket or in his debt! He was supplying them with more than stories!

Kind offer pal, but I got into Dublin at 5 am yesterday, so was not going to ask anyone to get up that early!

I thought Almore had said you were going to be at the Bad Ass tomorrow, but I may have misunderstood. I am off to Belfast on Wednesday, and over to Glasgow on Friday, but I will be back in Dublin next Tuesday, so hopefully we can catch up then.

Enjoy the game tomorrow! Should be a few goals in it. That PSG front four is terrifying, but hopefully we can cause their backs a few problems as well.

    Cheers

  5. Yeah when i heard milne i expected petrie as well as they are in the same circles but what will their fans do? we already know the dons fans are not happy and if you watch hibs v the huns they are up to date as well, so why would both chairmen risk their own clubs for the cheats, unless they are dirty as well.

James Forrest…do you believe our fans would boycott away grounds?

I’v been doing it since they let them back in the league,as sevco no away games, league Or cup games, and I do not attend hampden either in anything, but that’s just me and a couple of my mates.

  7. AS others have said we are on our own here, the wagons have been circled, they are prepared to take us out, that much is clear, it’s all about us now, do we have the balls, I sure hope so, else it’s over, they will have won, corruption and cheating will have been given the green light, their cheating will be taken to new levels.

I always did say that the real losers in this would be Celtic, unless we fight them that is, when I said that I didn’t know that Pedro was after them behind the scenes, I honestly can’t see him giving up now, he just can’t, else it really would be over.

Hurt and disappointed with scottish football, we really know where we stand now, confirmation has been rubber stamped.

  8. Kris Boyd doing his best BFDJ impression. Thick as shit and the voice getting higher and higher as his brain runs out of words!

Big Tam and wee Paddy to enter the fray in 2nd half.

I’ll eat my ticket if that’s no the way it plays oot.

  10. THE EXILED TIM:

Yeah, and that, as you say, is the only upside. We know now what we’re up against, and if we have to navigate this on our own then, well, that’s what we’ll do. Fergus did it over Farry; zero support there for our stance, but ultimately that didn’t matter.

But yes, there’s no more misunderstandings or misjudging people’s intentions, it’s all open for us to see and the choices, at least from where I’m sitting, seem pretty clear.

And there is a positive in that, a clear upside, which we have to make the best of.

  11. Nye Bevans' rebel soldier on

I will spend my money at Celtic Park and only at Celtic Park,

sadly I don’t think a boycott would work, it would be good to

hear the thoughts of the bhoy’s and ghirl’s who go to away game’s.

  12. Despite the best efforts BTSport with its gazillion replays ‘led by Chris Sutton’ to have a compliance issue raised against Scott Brown failed down to the lack of real evidence and or intent .

Perceived ‘flick outs with your foot’ that don’t make contact no matter how much air time and oxygen you give them aren’t enough for any compliance officer even if you play for Celtic.

    Who’d have thunk it csc

  13. Bhoys and Ghirls,

I’m sure most of us currently on CQN would advocate boycotting away games. However in the case of myself and I suspect most others, I no longer attend away games.

    I cannot boycott something I don’t use.

It’s the hard core that spend fortunes in money, time and commitment that would have to be convinced. Bearing in mind that away games are the glue that bonds many supporter clubs.

Personally I don’t think a boycott is sustainable and will only fracture our solidarity.

    HH.

  14. James Forrest

I have advocated boycotts of away grounds for long enough, then I get some on here calling me out for advocating any boycott as I don go to the games.

If they worship the money that much, lets show them how much the green pound is worth to their clubs.

    HH

  15. My feeling is we are too big to be ignored outside Scotland i think if there is intervention from UEFA etc its a no brainer, we are the only show in town as we like to say, the sfa have been caught and called out and it seems we are just leaving them to it, as i said working our ticket or leaving them to it. It looks like we are done arguing with the little men and their lies.

to show strength i would take all our players out the remaining games for the national team just to see what happens. we won’t go through anyway and any chance we have had was created by our players. let the country see what it is without us.

Yes Almore suggested that we meet in the Bad Ass Cafe (you know about his cafe fixation I presume) but Glasgow calls.

Maybe we could meet next tuesday for a drink or a bite to eat. I presume you are not alone? I will email you and make sure you have my number and we will arrange something

  17. Big Jimmy,

11/1 , Great odds, ill have some of that . I got us at 7/1 in Hills , v Barca. (2-1 game)

  18. THE EXILED TIM:

Agree mate. And if fans did then things would change, pronto.

And the thing of it is, they screw us time and time again, with ridiculous over-charging. Celtic fans routinely get charged more than the fans of other clubs, so when we DON’T turn up for games the pain is all the more acute. Fans who continue to fund these people … I do not understand it at all.

    “It damages Celtic.”

Not a valid argument. We will beat most teams regardless. And do they think this DOESN’T damage Celtic? We are being turned into the pariah club of Scottish football … AND WE’RE THE ONLY ONES WHO CARE ABOUT IT ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING.

Honestly, pissed right off tonight, seriously the worst I’ve felt about all this in ages.

  19. Here the thing with you wont stop me going to see the Celtic guys. SO you except all the cheating that you and your fathers before you have put up with? you now know for a fact that we weren’t paranoid, but you still want to give the cheats your money? if a Celtic fan answers yes to those then they really want to have a look at themselves.

it’s a no brainer for me, starve them out and put our money back into OUR club.

  20. I can’t help but wonder if Peter Lawwell hadn’t sounded out some of these CEOs as to their views on Regan and the SFA…and surely he has consulted Dermott…there must be a contingency plan…

  21. James

How sad it has come down to this, the fear the suits of the other clubs much be hellish for them that they can’t or won’t stand up for honesty and justice.

I would have thought that one club would have stood by us, how feckin naive I am, hurt is an understatement.

I left the country due to the bigotry and the sectarianism, it’s really come home to roost so it has.

    HH

  22. Folks if you think UEFA should be involved then the investigation into the UEFA License and SFA’s handling of it would appear the best opportunity.

    In short pass Res12.

  23. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

I posted this on another forum.

“If it is accepted that no other club wants a review, then surely Celtic have a case akin to constructive dismissal, where they are being asked to operate within a corrupt, dysfunctional Association.

Is it to fanciful to imagine the ECA at some stage breaking from UEFA, as big clubs always want more, and Celtic, as a huge club in a poor environment, being invited to the table?

As it stands, Where does the club go if UEFA and /or CAS back the SFA stance?”

    ***

    To add to that.

The club have set out their stall and are facing the combined forces of the Establishment.

Regan is given platforms to spout his lies and evasions, making Celtic Public Enemy No.1.

The question now is, what can/will our support do?

If it comes to a crowd funding exercise for a JR, then we can pitch in ; but what about the match going fans?

Is now the time to boycott ALL SFA competitions, i.e., cup and Internationals?

    If not now, when?

Don’t anyone give out the old guff about those who can’t attend games having an opinion.

We have enough groups representing various sections of the support.

Surely the time has come for the CSA to make serious contact with their counterparts at other clubs.

This is the Last Chance Saloon for Scottish football. If it is worth saving, then it is only supporters that will do it.

Petrie is up to his neck in the sewer.

  24. The lies and cheating has already damaged Celtic, if our own fans want to give the other teams (happy to be at the back of the bus) their money then they are just as bad, they will also be damaging Celtic by giving the cheats their money and by that there approval. It’s simple.

    KLV

  25. In accordance with their previous record in the great flag flutter, Hibernian Football club have disgraced themselves.

Petrie has made a monumental error as the Hibs support will not be long in showing their displeasure.

The wagons are circling and Regan and his cohorts are trying to make this Celtic V RFC ( il)

    We’ll bring it on bud….

Just like in the 50’s with our flag, we will overcome.

Asking Kris Boyd to comment on EBTs is like asking me to take a nuclear science lecture

  26. I’m not in a position to call for a bhoycott of any games.

I would though like to see those who represent away fans, namely, fan associations, CST, GB etc. at the very least call and have a meeting and debate on this, inviting independent Celtic away fans to also attend. Maybe facilitated by the club.

    MWD

  27. It’s not worth saving, the media today have caved and picked sides on top of hibs and dons and Anne sitting on her hands, we are on our own. I think Peter and co have always suspected as much hence the shadow boxing over the past 6 years, so now we know.

    Celtic through and through.

    we need an exit plan.
