BRENDAN RODGERS is about to re-open contract talks with classy midfielder Stuart Armstrong.
The Scotland international star’s deal expires at the end of the season and negotiations were put on hold as Celtic focused on their historic treble in the run-in to the previous campaign.
However, the Hoops are getting back down to business at their pre-season camp in Austria and Rodgers is aiming to get Armstrong’s future sorted quickly.
The Parkhead boss, who made his second summer signing with the capture of Ipswich’s 19-year-old midfielder Kundai Benyu yesterday, said: “I wanted to put talks on the back burner towards the end of last season.
“I didn’t want distractions and there was a period when it wasn’t resolved.“The last thing Stuart needed to worry about was talks. He’s had the Scotland game and a holiday, so I’m sure they will resume over the course of the season.
“Stuart had a brilliant year. Contracts are always about length of time or finances but I’m confident the club and the agent will come to an agreement.
“He’s happy here and knows he is improving. So, let’s wait and see.”
Rodgers admitted he was happy with his squad, but wants to add one more ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in a fortnight.
