Rogic’s next contract

929

Tom Rogic is well within his rights to take time to consider his next contract.  He is thriving at Celtic, but with a year left on his current deal, the future is open.  Front and centre of his mind, of all players’ minds, will be the dirty little subject.  The money paid to lesser talents than Tom in England is incredible, Tom is well within his rights to ponder his position in the food chain.

Then there is his place in the Celtic squad.  Brendan Rodgers is continually looking to improve the team.  It doesn’t matter who you are, you cannot be sure of a place well into the future.

There are also reasons to consider why Celtic might be a good fit for him.  He is not the archetypal English Premier League player, all physique and running.  Tom is a throwback to not so long ago when craft on the ball got you into the team, not the ability to burst a lung for 90 minutes.  All too often, he’s a 60 minute star.

Evidence is everywhere that he is a big game player and proven match winner, but he is not going to temp a title chasing team from England, instead it would be the bottom half battlers who are most likely to be interested in him.  He’s not a natural fit.  Better to stay with the champions.

  1. Jackie Mac was primarily a right back. His link play with Simon Donnelly was brilliant to watch.Jackie and Tosh played in the same team under Tommy.

Sometimes played at left back for MON when he switched from 3-5-3 to 4-4-2 and occasionally centre mid.

On the left backs I think it has went

    Tosh

    Jacky

    Boyd

    Mahe

    Laursen

    Camera

    Mulgrew

    Izzy

    Kt

Could easily have missed someone. MON tried mc mc manus as left back I remember. Possibly guppy too.

Mathews had a wee spell also I think under Lenny.

But I think thems above have been the stalwarts and have nailed it for a season at least. In Camaras case I believe it was a single season and I don’t have many fond memories.

Loved the old Celtic left back since Anton. It’s a beautiful position.

    Hail Hail

Some good memories looking at some of those names, some not so good memories.

I went onto Celtic wiki for the first time proper to look at some of the games stats from those players time in the hoops.

What a brilliant site that is.

  4. CRC: Best of luck to Rose.

Anyone know when the post-split fixtures will be announced? Off to Malaga for 10 days so want to be ready to make bookings.

    TIA

  5. Probably once the have a better idea of when we can win it, to avoid the chance of winning the league against Sevco.

We also had Michael Gray for a short time. And Lee Naylor for about three years.

No offence meant to anyone who lived the dream, but I think that Celtic struggled to fill the position consistently between Big Tam and Izzy. Been spoiled since then.

Any news on the domestic front yet?

I agree with you about Celticwiki. A treasure trove of knowledge.

Pretty sure Big Nan,a much-missed former contributor here, had a big hand in putting it all together.

I finally broke the news about Good Friday to my pet hun pal who’s recently moved to Dublin. He’s on the edge, man. A full day off, nothing to occupy it.

All I could suggest was the local dog meeting. We were lucky two years ago,the friendly wi Switzerland.

Hope you enjoy Malaga. You might even bump into Auldheid.

BMCUW- if so he must have done a tremendous amount of work to collate all the info.

Was thinking what it would take to pull something like all that info together.

  10. Guys, anyone on here had a total hip replacement?

Reason for asking was that I had one 7 weeks ago tomorrow and all was going well until yesterday.

I was putting my trousers on and the hip that I had replaced (right) made a funny noise. (Like knuckles cracking)

It wasn’t a snap or a noise that i would relate to a dislocation.

Afterwords it was slightly sore and last night in bed was a little uncomfortable, and I could not sleep with worry.

    This morning seems fine.

I know it’s a Celtic blog, but I was just wondering if anyone had the same experience.

I will take it easy from now until I feel ready to do things, as in hindsight I think I was rushing to get back to fitness.

Cheers in advance and sorry it’s off topic but any info would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your sleepless nights, bud. An absolute curse, and I was stricken for years with it. Turned out to be a blessing when my company put me on permanent nights!

Interview for the manager’s job went well. The two people interviewing had no intention of putting me anywhere near the role, but were hamstrung by directives from the Regional Distribution Director, who had forwarded my name.

We know you like a pint, you won’t be able to go out at night in this job-cue smug smile,as they know they’ve got me.

Not a problem, the local Wetherspoon opens at 8am.

You can’t drink at 8 in the morning, they spluttered, almost in unison!

I can if I can’t drink at 8 at night.

There’s quite a few of us in there early doors, all commenting sotto voce about their previous nightshift. For obvious reasons!

Hope you get it sorted soon, mate. There are a number of possible reasons for it,and if it continues,I honestly suggest you seek advice about it.

Sounds like your sleepless night was for a physical reason, rather than any other. Same remedial action applies.

Cheers BMCUW- think I was writing about my sleepless night last night when you were posting that reply to me. Thanks for advice. And what a couple of dicks they guys were at your interview.

I do have a bit of a stressful job but over the years I have nanaged to curb that stress to enable me to get a good nights sleep, only now and again I will have a sleepless night now.

To be fair to them,I did have a bit of a reputation as a troublemaker. Always took on disciplinaries-and won!-and they didn’t want a fox in charge of the henhouse.

They were looking for a yes-man. If they’d got one,the department would have been outsourced within a year.

Get on the blower, bud. Canny mess about where your health is involved.

PS-can’t remember who it was from here who had a hip replacement a few years back, but ACGR showed his usual concern for the welfare of a friend.

Asked him for the bone,as he fancied making a pot of soup!!!

The muscles can pop and crackle after major orthopaedic surgery (trust me I know) they are just stretching out it’s nothing to worry about. I assume this is happening while you are moving around.

If your hip was out you would be in major and constant pain.

    Hope this helps

Posted to you during the game, he was first yellow card. Gave away a penalty, and was at fault for the goal in 93rd minute. He was blowin out his arse after 80 mins though. 3 months out wi Achilles injury it is understandable. Apart fae awe that he played well. Some of his deliveries at pace into the box were excellent.

We all know how good a player he can be,but IMO he’s had so many injuries that it’s affecting his attitude on the pitch.

He certainly can’t be blamed for that, and he certainly can’t be blamed for not quite being 100% on return from another serious injury.

Again,IMO,he just needs a run of games injury-free. Get his mind right, and focused on his football. He’ll get there,he’s a big strong lad,and has the talent to back that. Just needs his gallusness back!

If so against ICT who I believe are still full time , then Dumbarton held there own.

As you will know if you have a couple of nephews in the game the difference between PT and FT is huge especially fitness wise .
