Rogic’s next contract

929

Tom Rogic is well within his rights to take time to consider his next contract.  He is thriving at Celtic, but with a year left on his current deal, the future is open.  Front and centre of his mind, of all players’ minds, will be the dirty little subject.  The money paid to lesser talents than Tom in England is incredible, Tom is well within his rights to ponder his position in the food chain.

Then there is his place in the Celtic squad.  Brendan Rodgers is continually looking to improve the team.  It doesn’t matter who you are, you cannot be sure of a place well into the future.

There are also reasons to consider why Celtic might be a good fit for him.  He is not the archetypal English Premier League player, all physique and running.  Tom is a throwback to not so long ago when craft on the ball got you into the team, not the ability to burst a lung for 90 minutes.  All too often, he’s a 60 minute star.

Evidence is everywhere that he is a big game player and proven match winner, but he is not going to temp a title chasing team from England, instead it would be the bottom half battlers who are most likely to be interested in him.  He’s not a natural fit.  Better to stay with the champions.

Gerry, Paul McGugan was a limited player but I will never slag him . He scored our first goal against the first Ibrox club in the New Year’s day game in 1986 right in front of the beelin buns in the away end, something most of us could only dream of.

In various sites he gets called McGuigan , not McGugan , and gets grief about his time playing for us yet the slaggers cant get his name right.

In 1984, there was a reserve game at Ibrox which we won 1 nil, Rambo scored. In the first half , Kevin McMinn tried to go round Paul who then bodychecked Kevin. Kevin McMinn was substituted as a result of the body check.

The following year, we played Aberdeen , the Saturday after Jock Stein passed away.

Towards the end of the the above game , Black or Hewitt , elbowed Paul in the coupon. Blood was pouring all down his face and over his hoops. It was a real mess. Paul carried on playing with blood streaming out of his wound . A player who did shed blood for us.

  7. CRC,

We went skiing last week, 2nd time for me and Aidan. Loved it eventually.

It is a mind thing, especially when you have been hurt before.

Anyway, I said to Aidy, he left in the early car because his wrist was sore, “we are now Blues Brothers……. ” Like putting a red rag to a bull.

He went out and owned the red slopes last day. Progres.

The wee guy is hoping to get a working Uni job. I’d appreciate any spare prayers you have that he gets a break.

    Your memory scares me !

As you had mentioned watching how good the Maestro actually was, ably assisted by TB & Murdo but what annoyed me the most was remembering how good wee Walker & Charlie Nic were…. their attitude now bugs me but stiff them, they should play on being important Celtic players but prefer not too…. still canny believe Tommy Boyd scored a pen against us with his standing foot

  11. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gerry, when we won 2 nil at Ibrox just after Tom Boyd signed for us, we had a breakaway which ended up with Tom side footing the ball out for a bye kick. The look he gives to the beelin buns giving him grief, has always stuck in my mind , he was never intimidated by them.

I was never a Res Bhoy, I was a “clubber” the Metro crew loved their invented snobbery even our Es were nearly Fs :-)

Loved those days old and impressionable :-) MrsGFTB informed me on 2/1/2008 that I might want to think differently ….. that was the day the Metro died :-)

Still love the music, somebody posted on here during the week, Carl Cox in the Metro was magic, just thinking back then followed Celtic everywhere then hit the jigging in Saltcoats,,,, these days I can only type about the good times :-)

Blantyre Tim , I’m sorry to hear about your mum’s condition . Its must be awful for your family to see and deal with.
