Ronny, this is your starting point

1151

Ronny Deila seems to be more upset at the poor performance yesterday than I was. My expectation on hearing the team matched what we saw. We have taken big steps to turn things around in recent weeks but, Ronny, this is your starting point, and it’s not as high as you might have thought.

Hopefully we’ll be back to something more recognisable as a full squad on Wedenesday, including Wakasooooooo.

Blog on the go this week, email delays too.

  1. Lionroars67,

    You said we had to rely on luck, poor finishing and cracking saves to get a result.

    I was only referring to games where we have gotten a decent result. So taking out legia where we played more than half the game with 10 men, there was as much luck going for ICT and dundee as there was for us.

    Sure we haven’t been great so far but some guys only seem to remember the luck and good saves and poor finishing going for us and not against us.

  4. I heard a footy discussion on five live last night and Philip Neville was explaining that playing on a Sunday after a Europa match was difficult for players to get used to. Something about being disorientated and losing their weekend. :-)

    The teams that played on Thursday didn`t do so well on Sunday.

    Oh

    Lionsroar, agree with that analysis, even Doc’s input was accurate, Efe constantly exposed at right back, another thing, on Sunday, did you see the huge gaps being created by Kayal’s lack of discipline

    Under no circumstances should Griffiths be allowed to go to Hibs. Well, only if we’re sure it’ll help deny the newco a play-off place.

    But at the moment signing Messi wouldn’t be enough for this Hibs team.

    Griffiths is far more dynamic than Stokes and if anyone is going to Hibs it should be the latter.

  9. It worries me that supporters are defending what Ronny’s done so far at Celtic.

    It’s been verging on managerial suicide at times.

    I can understand saying give him time etc but so far it’s deeply concerning.

    Work calls.

  10. Morning Celts and well done to all the voters last night, I’d been voting all weekend but just the odd vote when I noticed it on twitter and FB, it took my mind off the ref vote. Yesterday was different though as the Benfica loyal got organised and many times got into the lead, cue the motivation, cajoling and pleading for our fellow Celts to get their votes in, we done it and what great fun it was ✊

    The second worse case scenario behind not actually winning the league, is that he MAY not be up to the job but may still win the league – in which case…he keeps his job and our attempts to qualify for the CL are another farce.

    Time will tell.

  12. I see there’s a wee bit of meeja coverage regarding court appearances following the arrests made at George Square on Friday night.

    See:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-29317347

    http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/6-charged-over-indy-vote-riot-181634n.25404339

    I’m a bit puzzled about this coverage, however: whilst both these reports give names and ages of those charged, there’s no mention of where they come from; not that I’d expect to see a street address, but usually a town of origin would be shown …

    I forgot to say thank you for your kind words during all the referendum chat.

    With regards to RD, I really enjoyed the 2nd half on Saturday, and I think we were unlucky not to take a win. It’s clear he can’t depend on some of the 2nd string players but I can’t recall that being different for any manager in the last 15 years or more.

  14. What a morning….had to go off injured last night and sent straight to bed, with my finger in a sling and what with the pain killers did not know the final result. Delighted to wake up this morning and find out, that not only am I able to pick my nose again, the team actually won. What an achievement and so proud that I was able to be part of such a great Team. When do I get my winners medal?

  15. As things are not always as they seem, I decided to zip through pages 20 and 21 and check the numbers for negative, positive and neutral re mood of posts. Here are the results:

    Neutral = 15;

    Negative = 14;

    Positive = 7.

    Neutral included posts that were not giving an opinion on Celtic ( information etc).

    What was interesting was that the negative posts were more strongly worded than the positives.

    Make of the above what you will.

    JJ

    PS Being left with a Non-existent wind was both neutral and the most thought- provoking comment of the day so far!

  16. weeminger

    Agreed. While I’m concerned about the seeming lack of progress I’m not sure what more RD could have done on Sunday given the stats were;

    Shots 27 v 4

    On target 10 v 1

    Corners 8-0

    That’s a walkover in Craig Brown’s eyes!

  17. LionsRoar67, thats true enough, but where lies the problem? Izzy bombing forward or Ronny telling him to do so? Or Stokes trying to be Cryuff on the halfway line?

    Izzy is the least if these I think.

  18. Billy @ 09:36

    I saw those stats, too, and – though I was at the game – found them to paint a rosier picture than I had expected.

    A break down between first and second half would be interesting.

    That aside, their goalie (who must now hold some kind of record for the number of times he kicked the ball straight into touch) didn’t have to make a genuinely difficult save all afternoon …

  19. Ellboy - I am Neil Lennon, YNWA. on

    I see a lot of blame being attached to individuals and no doubt players make mistakes but the main issue is not a player problem. It’s been obvious from the first game as to what the issue was/is and the results that have followed have sadly been predictable. We are short of defensive cover whenever we give the ball away in midfield which is often with only two in there. Put an extra man in midfield Ronny to cover our attacking fullbacks and help secure the middle of the park. It’s just not possible for a two man midfield to cover both full back and CM for 90 minutes. Only top top possession football teams can get away with playing this way. Unfortunately we are not one of them and until RD realises this we will continue to drop points to better organised sides.

  20. FIFA to present the Celtic supporters with yet another award for being the best and most conscientious online poll voters in the world.

    The award ceremony will take place on the 11th October in Bar 67 in the Gallowgate, where the trophy will be presented by Sepp Blatter to CQN stalwart, and hootenanny organiser extraordinaire, BMCUW!

    Thereafter light refreshments will be served.

    I stand corrected.

    1 quality save in 27 attempts kind of emphasises my point, though …

    We seem to miss the type of player when they are injured who drive the team on Broonie,Mulgrew Johannson. These guys may not be the best players but they drive the others on.This was very evident in our first half display on Saturday we didnt as a team wake up until Broonie and Commons came on.For some reason or another the rest of the team play as though they are on mogadon.I dont think we can blame Rony for that the players need to take a good look at themselves and up there game.H.H.

  23. Folly Folly

    I found your other point more interesting. The one about how many times he found touch.I commented on that, too. Was it because Motherwell were so defensive he had no on to aim for? 0:-)

    Cheerio for now,

    JJ

  24. Joe

    You have a point – of sorts.

    The manager picks the team.

    He ought to know who the characters in the team are.

    And their importance to the side.

    If you don’t field enough character players (those possessed of personal drive, able to self lift their team mates), then you risk your side being bossed by a motivated and experienced opposition. cf. Sunday’s first half display …

    Good point. For the first few minutes on Sunday, I thought we looked cool and efficient. After a while, I saw that as dull and unimaginative!

    And it kinda emphasises my (kack handed) point from earlier. It’s not just other teams who suffer from poor finishing in our games.

    leftclick. I agree give Griffiths a run out he scored against Dundee at Dens and hasnt been seen since. The player has goals in him he might not be the brightest but its football we are talking about not his IQ. H.H.
