Rosenborg call for ex-Aruba boss, SFA “must” refer to CAS

964

Rosenborg went five years without winning the Norwegian title before Kare Ingebrigtsen turned things around.  Under him, they were champions the last three seasons – back on the pertch.  A mere two points off the pace, having scraped a win against Valur, he was sacked, just six days before his former team face Celtic.

It seems harsh.  This is a club burdened by their Champions League history.  Until 2004, when money replaced meritocracy, they held the record for the number of consecutive appearances in the group stage (8).  But they never turned the lights off.  They see clubs from other small nations reach the group stage of the Europa League and, to a lesser extent, the Champions League, and know they could do the same.

If they thought Ingebrigtsen’s team would have beaten Celtic he would still be in a job.  Instead, they have thrown the dice in the hope of giving players an edge.  The new interim boss’s only managerial gig in the last seven years was six weeks in charge of the Aruba national team.  Since then he’s kicked around as a youth coach and been an assistant in Dubai.  It’s a strange one.

Sacking a manager often leads to a short-term boost in results, which is all that is required for European qualification.  Expect this tie to be competitive.  That’s good, I prefer Celtic to play in games with a visible edge, than against unknowns with fire in their belly.  Cool heads will be needed.  On that subject, we’ll discuss Jozo later.

Newco, having successfully argued the SFA should refer the matter of Rangers’ eligibility for Uefa competition in 2011 to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), now request the SFA do not take the matter to CAS.  It’s a kind of Newco logic; any victory in a storm.

They argue this procedural guidance establishes the complaint has no merit, whereas the SFA Judicial Panel Disciplinary Tribunal did not address the complaint, only their competency to examine it.

The Judicial Panel ruled “the Notice of Complaint must be determined by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”  The word “must” has been overlooked by Newco.  The SFA must act accordingly.  Taking the whole thing to Lausanne will make sure we don’t need to go through another round of “Who are these people” type witch-hunts.  I know what you are thinking, Dave King has been making friend with the SFA on a weekly basis for months now, surely they will do his bidding.

I’m not sure Dave’s that clever.

  3. I’ve said before a big victory was won when the huns went to div 3. Maybe that’s as good as it gets. But taking millions from Scottish football will be the biggest beating the sfa can get.

  23. Hi Paul67,

Rosenborg’s dilemma seems similar to our own, how do you compete in Europe from a smaller nation without the money that competing in Europe brings?

Basle have excelled and Rosenborg have floundered. You really need differentiators. With Celtic this has been a twenty years work in progress… Good luck to Rosenborg working it out for the Norwegians next season eh!

Got to say, the Norwegian panic has much to do with the formidable way Celtic go about their business… Still, they will be very difficult opponents.

I’ve got to agree wholeheartedly with this…

”Newco, having successfully argued the SFA should refer the matter of Rangers’ eligibility for Uefa competition in 2011 to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), now request the SFA do not take the matter to CAS. It’s a kind of Newco logic; any victory in a storm.”

Typical bunkum from Sevco – to argue you want your hearing at another Court, a higher Court in another jurisdiction…

When that’s agreed… instantly, you then argue it’s a waste of time going through all the expense and hassle to have your hearing at a higher Court in another jurisdiction…, Go figure!!

    ——————————————————————————————————

Apologies for the (very) late reply, I was aff oot this morning after commenting. But obviously the points are still sound and relevant…

It’s worth pointing out that although I stated this morning that the SFA Compliance Officer must have failed to collate and present the case for the prosecution in regard to the 2011 UEFA licence for Rangers as was expected. It is still possible that he was presenting this case. Sevco Rangers could still be liable for Rangers legacy sanctions if the hearing went against them.

They could still have a clause in the 5WA that states they could appeal to CAS. Though one suspects that they would have to await the outcome of the JPDT!>

    BMCUW @ 8:07 am,

It’s not the original crime that does for you,it’s the cover-up.

As I mentioned earlier,we need to prove that the people in charge of the 5WA were acting illegally. Shouldn’t be too difficult, there were rules in place at the time re pyramid structure and replacements in the case of an insolvency event.

    Also precedents.

Every law, rule, regulation that lot broke has been ignored. The people who ignored it were paid by Scottish football to enforce every law, rule, regulation. That means corruption,not-yer in the clear.

Honestly, this is getting like Jimmy Hoffa and The Teamsters Union. Has anyone seen Stewart Regan since he left the building?

    Starry Plough @ 8:29 am,

Perhaps some interested party at the SFA suggested the CAS route to the huns???

I seem to remember the maddy that runs FC Sion here tried to kick the can down the road to local courts and the CAS much to the chagrin of UEFA only to end up losing any way.

So much depends on the locus of the facts presented to the CAS and I fail to see how that would be up to Sevco to decide that of course they would present a Sevco version.

The moment of truth has arrived.

In “normal” circumstances it’s true, the covering up of wrongdoing once exposed is often worse than the original misdemeanour, of course we are talking about Rangers and Scotland. The SMSM. the sporting authorities, the civil authorities and the Government, all know Scotland needs a strong Rangers… they don’t know why, they just know it

As long as Scotland believes that – Scotland will be in the dark ages… Compare and contrast Scotland(the country) with Norway (the country) – Case rested…

What we must ensure is that this hearing goes to the CAS and that the SFA don’t embarrass themselves and the Country again by not submitting the full case and not presenting their case without fear or favour.

It should allow for the 5WA to be scrutinized… I am sure the rules and regulations that it breaks together with the partial nature of it’s Ts&Cs – does any other Club in Scotland get an immunity for their past wrongs? – ensures that this agreement is not fit for purpose.

The moment of truth has certainly arrived; the Scottish authorities, the Clubs – including and importantly Celtic – must push together to ensure a true,, complete and impartial hearing of the WTC and the granting of Rangers 2011 UEFA licence takes place in Switzerland.

Then we can get to the bottom of this travesty warped in a conundrum wrapped in an enigma

    Hail Hail
