Scott Brown, party plans pooped

341

Footballers typically hit their testimonial year well after their peak, but this is arguably Scott Brown’s best season of his 11 in a Celtic jersey.  His Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards, which he received last night, were a formality.  We all knew the captain would collect both prizes.

The first thing Brendan Rodgers did when he met the media on his appointment was to cite Scott as the most important player at the club.  Brendan knew what he could get out of the captain and understood the importance of setting his expectations out early.

Scott will be 33 in June.  One day we will discuss succession, but with his form and fitness at their best ever, that time could be a several years away.

Party plans were pooped on Saturday but at least Newco won yesterday, doing us a favour by ensuring that we can take the title by our own actions on Sunday, and not potentially while watching Aberdeen and Hearts on Friday night.

Normally I would tell you that the cup final is far more important than Sunday’s league game, but I want to win the league this weekend.  A lot.

No more mistakes, Celtic.

  3. Don’t care what they say, Kevin de Murdoch was the best player in the EPL this season. Shouldn’t be won by a player from the also-rans, great as he’s been too.

My granda stopped going to Paradise when my Uncles left home. He loved his pictures wi my gran because she could tell him what was happening visually. His sons and my dad were poor at commentary at Celtic games. Albert is a Knightswood legendary Tim. God rest his soul.

  5. Big Packy we are all well. I even managed a pain free little walk today.

We as Tims may have been outnumbered in Knightswood. Never outclassed.

SFSA WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF NEW SFA CEO

Scotland’s national fans group welcomes the appointment of Ian Maxwell

SFSA calls for a fresh start to fans affairs in Scotland

23rd April 2018: The Scottish Football Supporters Association (SFSA) has today congratulated the SFA on the appointment of its new CEO, Ian Maxwell, and has called for a change of direction for the organisation in its handling of fans affairs in the future.

The SFSA – Scotland’s national fans body – is a not-for-profit, members’ organisation open to everyone, whether they are individuals, supporters groups or affiliates. The body, which currently has over 71,000 members, has had dealings with Ian Maxwell during his tenure as Managing Director at Partick Thistle FC.

Simon Barrow, Chair of the Scottish Football Supporters Association, said: “It is extremely important that the Scottish Football Association uses this appointment to change direction from the way fans have previously been treated. We believe that supporters deserve more recognition in Scottish football – as do players and coaches/managers. Ian has proven to be an excellent advocate for fans having a significant voice at Partick Thistle and we do hope that he will be allowed to build on that experience when he takes over at Hampden Park.

“At the end of last year our independent academic research showed that the reputation of the football authorities was exceptionally poor. We as supporters are more than happy to work with Ian Maxwell and others to improve that situation in the months and years ahead. We now need more fan engagement at every level to make this truly ‘the people’s game’ once more.”

The SFSA can be found on Twitter @scottishfsa, through #reclaimthegame and on Facebook.

  8. Hugh Keevins really struggling now. Being destroyed. Blames our defence for our woes. Defensively we are on a par with last season. It’s goals scored we are in deficit.

  10. On Reporting Scotland, Currie tells us about some of the challenges Maxwell faces, including Hampdump issue, improving relations with the Fantasy League, and dealing with the Compliance Officer’s on-and-on-and-ongoing investigation into the granting of a UEFA License to Rangers in 2011.

One part of that sentence isn’t true.

  11. DD can I say, and I hope I do not offend you, that you have done magnificently in recent months.

You are THE reason that I found the courage if you like, to post here. After lurking for years I had a rough idea who you were (your posts about Knightswood and your auld mates Alco and wee Smidday the windy cleaner etc) gave you away, and after reading your sad, sad story about why you were missing from the blog for a while, I felt the need to post my admiration/ words of encouragement.

Today was another milestone that you have achieved and after what you have went through you deserve all the credit going. Believe me I have had some of the same troubles you went through with my Brother.

Anyway keep it going pal, and Hail Hail

CELTIC’S final league match of this season is a sell-out, with fans having snapped up tickets for the match at Paradise on Sunday, May 13 against Aberdeen (KO: 12.30pm).

Brendan Rodgers’ side have just two further SPFL games at home this season, with a Glasgow derby this Sunday, April 29 (also sold out) and a visit from Kilmarnock on Wednesday, May 9.

He may well be a good guy. He just didn’t sound very convincing when Michael Stewart was asking him about the recruitment of the national team manager.

If we go after him we do it based on evidence of his bigoted attitude towards Rangers and Rangers fans and use of sectarian terms about us.

Don’t bring his religion into it and don’t bring any friendship with Lawwell into it.

Stick to what he could be sacked for and avoid the possibility it gets turned into us being paranoid or bigoted ourselves.
