Scottish football on solid ground

1313

Any away win by a Scottish club in the Netherlands is noteworthy but Aberdeen’s win last night is even more significant. It is a sign that a recovery is underway in one of Scottish football’s perennial underachievers. St Johnstone’s result is more of the same after last year’s achievements. Motherwell’s sorry exit is a lesson on being unprepared….

If Celtic can reach the Champions League group stage for the third successive season, there’s reason to believe our game is on solid ground after the years of excess and abandon.

“I do have a wee worry that Ronny is trying to fit square pegs into round holes by playing Watt and Griffiths in wide roles to suit the format he wants to play.

Big Jock never asked players to do the things that he believed they couldn’t.”

He asked Mike Conroy to play centre half, he played Tom McAdam at centre half and centre forward,

*Was that no big Billy .

He even played Ron Yeats up front as Scotland manager.

*I believe that was out of necessity as there were numerous call off prior to this game including forwards Alan Gilzean and Neil Martin who had played in the game 4 weeks prior when Ron Yeats (big time Tim BTW) didnae play.

  2. YNWA being sung. Hate to see any Celtic team lose any game but the kids fought well against a stronger determined St. Pauli side.

  3. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Much better second half show by the weans.

Should have got the draw, maybe undeserved.

    Mc.Geoch our most consistent performer.

Worth while, as it gives more players an opportunity to impress the manager and for him to assess who stays and who goes.

    Nothing else really mattered.

  4. All over and a 1-0 defeat for the young lads.

Watt a positive,Henderson pass marks but defensively shaky and need to toughen up.

Just managed to make it home to catch the last 15 mins. Going by the comments on here the young lhads seem to have had a bit of a stinker. Was it that bad?

  6. St Pauli supporters might have a soft spot for the Celtic. Their players didn’t take any prisoners.

Did we learn anything? Hopefully, the young lhads learned a few lessons.

Just watched Celtic on Premier sports. My prediction Tony Watt won’t make it at Celtic. Lazy

  12. Not really Just another tim, This place is full of drama queens. Bad error by Twardzik for goal. Lost possession a few times in dangerous areas but one nil against a physically stronger determined side is no disgrace for the kids. Pity we couldn’t score the penno but thats it. Nothing to worry about we move on.

  13. Just another tim

Nah, I wouldn’t say it was a stinker. St Pauli deserved their win because they were more organised, sharper and created the best chances. The bhoys worked hard tho and weren’t overrun.

  14. Good experience for the younger players. I thought O’Connell, Henderson, Watt, McGeoch and McMullan all showed promise.

A wee harsh on young Tony mate naw?He was doing the work of two there

wae Atajic posted missing. Also maybe in a stronger team selection he would get

quality balls from say Stefan or Chris.

  16. Hard to judge a young player when so many playing at the same time against such opposition.

At another time maybe 3 or 4 thrown in along with more experienced players who read the game better and help them and we see a different player.

    Thanks for the updates ghuys.

Good run out for the developing players, and some cash from Premier Sports and Setanta.

From the side that lined up only Nir Biton is likely to feature against Legia.

  19. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

I took out Premier Sports last week for the Dresden friendly. It advised me on screen that my Virgin Media bill would increase by £4:50 and that there would be an adjustment of around £2 because I was taking it in the middle of the month

    I have watched

    Celtic v Dresden

    St. Pat’s v Legia

Groningen v Aberdeen and on Wednesday I will be able to watch Legia v Celtic. I’m hoping they will show the Celtic v Tottenham friendly but no information so far. I can and will cancel after 30 days.

    Not bad value for money.

Thought he was very lazy. Thought Delia(yes man) model was to close down never seen him do much of that. Fasted he moved was to get the ball at the penalty. Would love it to be proved wrong. He minds me of Riordon talent lacks work rate.
