Any away win by a Scottish club in the Netherlands is noteworthy but Aberdeen’s win last night is even more significant. It is a sign that a recovery is underway in one of Scottish football’s perennial underachievers. St Johnstone’s result is more of the same after last year’s achievements. Motherwell’s sorry exit is a lesson on being unprepared….
If Celtic can reach the Champions League group stage for the third successive season, there’s reason to believe our game is on solid ground after the years of excess and abandon.

43 Too many defensive mistakes from the young lads
Another defensive dawdle by O’Connell brings another attack.
It’s either the heat or panic after losing a goal, but we are reduced too nervous defending.
Twardzik is having a nightmare. Booked then hopelessly at fault for German goal. I thought after his appearance in the last game of season that he would challenge Izzy but recent sightings have greatly disappointed.
KOjo
Re our tactics and formation.
I don’t want to see us lose, but at youth / reserve , given the choice , I would rather that we got beat and identified one or two first team ready players, than won everything possible, but failed to produce first team players.
For as long as I can remember our Reserves /u21s have dominated Scottish football, but consistently failed to produce top players.
Is Reserve / U21 about winning , or producing first team ready players, as stats suggest you can’t do both?
Nice skill from Tony Watt but shot is blocked
Good play by Watt, lays it off but shot wide.
Celts shot on goal, pulled wide………..Half time beckons…..
The top section of the stand behind CG is closed off.
45 mins good work from Watt and back heel creates chance put well wide
Was Scotland Rugby 7s a
71 -14 loss
Or a
17 -14 loss
Someone posted 17 -14
BBC has Scotland thrashed 71 -14
Wondered how they could score 71 points when I saw it
Just before HT it was something like 10 – 0
To be fair to Twardzik, he is being played out of position, he’s not a left back.
Half time
Think Watt is wasted on the left. I’d put him through the middle in the second half.
Thats HT 1-0 Pauli

It was 17-14.
After a 17:0 lead, two NZ players were sin-binned to make a game of it.
Rather see Watt and Griffiths as strikers rather than out wide
How is Biton doing? Without Brown, we will need him.
Get Watt on through the middle and play Twardzik in his natural position.
Half time 0-1. In fairness Watt is trying hard whenever he gets a ball. Looks like our best option to score or create goal. Don’t want to single out anyone for particular criticism but can’t see Balde lasting too much longer at Club.
HT 0-1 They are 2nd tier Bundesliga and start next week. We are a bit scrappy, not much happening up front, and then mostly via Watt but final ball creating little by way of chances.
Have to cut out the defensive slips giving the ball away in dangerous situation.
Twardzig is far too casual
SFTB
BBC still has Scotland thrashed 71 – 14
Cheers
Kojo you are asking the wrong people about team selection and positioning. I told you two or three weeks again to email Ronnie D and or John C have you done that? get it straight from the horses mouth so to speak.hail Hail Hebcelt
Positives:

Only one of us would show up. And it would not be you.
You made the same line-up accusation in around 30 of our 38 league games last season. You declared yourself happy with the team selection on, perhaps, two occasions. Only the Aberdeen result gave you any vindication but that may have been one of the selections you endorsed.
Your accuracy record is not good and the post carries all the redolence of a Big C slant from the Daily Record stable.
Don’t want to be too hard on the youths but they all look half baked /finished.
Too little intensity, to many wasted touches and too many mistakes / missed passes.
Are we getting a return from our youth investment?
I think not.

Totally agree. Neil infuriatingly played the boy on the left before he went out on loan last season. His goal against Barca, his run through on goal against Barca before he was stopped by Mascherano and his other goals for Celtic all came from central positions.
A very unconvincing display by the young Celts, can’t see many of these players breaking into the first team any time soon.
I’d give Biton the benefit of the doubt, as perhaps the more senior outfield player and managing to maintain his positional discipline while distributing reasonably well.
Balde continues to confuse, for his size he doesn’t play at all like a big strong centre forward, constantly easily forced of the ball and incapable of holding it up for any time. Which leaves you wondering what exactly his key skills are.
Only outfield player I’d consider for first team at this stage is McGeoch, he’s been lively and sharp with his passing. Something that’s been lacking from those around him.
Defence is a bombscare.
Tony Watt to score in 2nd half…
I think we can win this
St Pauli 1 Celtic 3
HH
Pass marks for Mcgeouch, Watt and Biton.
Poor defending and a mistake from Twardzik the difference.
See our resident critic, who constantly calls for youth, lacks patience…
What is the point of this game? I thought we would play our main side.
Those Rejkavik fans had quite the unusual repertoire………Eh!
Wild rover was brilliant!
St.Pauli too physically strong and fast for the kids.
It is still a good experience for them.
We are light in midfield, with only Biton and Mc.Geoch really featuring.
Atajic and Balde merely making up the numbers, as nothing is really reaching them.
Watt looking prominent, in a Sammi sort if way, getting on to long balls and going alone.
The main difference is that the home team are more mature and our boys want too much time on the ball.
A good work out for the kids.
