Scottish FA chief executive, Stewart Regan, this evening announced that the Association would not appeal against the Court of Session decision to rule in Rangers favour over the 12 month player registration ban imposed by a Judicial Panel for not paying social taxes between May 2011 and February 2012. Rangers didn’t pay social taxes in the period since February 2012, the period during which they launched their appeal.
I hear Rangers today served the ruling on the SFA and that the SFA have responded by informing the club that, under Fifa auspices, fresh proceedings will be raised against them for taking a civil court action, which will lead to a minimum punishment of Rangers being suspended from the Association.
The initial case will be referred back to the SFA Appellate Tribunal. Regan reminded us that Rangers appeal to the civil courts broke two SFA Articles and five Fifa statues. The tone and content of his statement demonstrated the frustration at the behaviour of the errant club. He suggested the SFA would tell clubs [Rangers] that they must accept and abide by the Articles of Association at next week’s AGM.
While it appears the Association is about to get tough, they are in the middle of a problem of the making of the SFA and, in particular, Mr Doncaster of the SPL. Here is the problem…
Rangers believe they are needed. This belief is absolute and has been reinforced by the people running our game, the very same people who have been rag-dolled by Rangers in recent weeks.
The SPL waited almost three months for Rangers to respond to their demand for information into what is allegedly the biggest scam in British sporting history. Despite this, throughout that time, the SPL chief executive campaigned vigorously for a Newco-Rangers to become the first club in Scottish football history to be parachuted into the top league.
It took the SPL 11 weeks to set a deadline. No wonder Clark, Whitehouse and Green think they can play hardball.
During this time the SFA, who are the only body competent to investigate if Rangers illegally registered players across all domestic competitions, have taken no action. The SFA president, who was an executive director of Rangers when they introduced the controversial EBTs and who received and EBT himself, has remained in position throughout.
Time for strong leadership, Mr Regan. Mr Doncaster, there’s always a career in the law.

Interesting review from Ms Pierce who of course is to be admired immensely for her work with the Guilford four and other cases.
I often think that Gereth Pierce is herself the unwitting cause of an injustice.
She gets loads of praise for her role with the four and is widely quoted in the press and of course was portrayed by Emma Thompson on film.
But her fame completely masks and hides a far greater and unsung hero in my opinion.
Paddy Armstrong’s solicitor went through absolute hell for acting on behalf of his client. If I recall correctly his name was Alastair Logan– though I can’t be sure.
Anyway he was a small time solicitor who believed in Paddy Armstrong’s innocence throughout. He stuck with the case for years and years and years despite his own local community, his other clients, some business associates and members of the general public roundly condeming him for representing Armstrong.
His business and his health suffered and he was advised to simply give up looking after Paddy if he knew what was good for him.
I am not sure if he also lost his marriage– but that rings a vague bell too– such was the HUGE pressure he was placed under.
When eventually the four was released, Conlon and Hill went off, Carole Richardson got help with her various conditions and so on.
Paddy Armstrong ha dvirtually nowhere to go and so ended up on the solicitors spare bed for at least a period. He had great trouble readjusting to life outwith the prison, and Logan provided not only a roof, bed and board but also friendship, support and counselling– all way way beyond anything that remotely approaches a professional duty.
You never hear of him these days- unlike Pierce– which is no surprise.
Hopefully the guy earns a decent living and enjoys some respect and respite from the sheer and utter crap he was put through by others.
I also hope his shoes are shiney from booting his begrudgers right up the arse on a regular basis– yes even after all these years!

I doubt it especially they way transfers are structured and they are in no position to play hardball. Any money in is going to be needed to keep them going unless Greeny gives up some investors cash to keep them afloat.

The renegotiation exercise with the R@ngers players seemed to be ill-conceived plan, devoid of medium/long term benefits to Club or Creditors.
Today with 3.5M in da’bank and 20M of value knocked off the players’ values. Together with the fact they now have to pay them top Dollar while they are not playing and are await their Bargain Bucket deal, it looks somewhat ill-judged.
BTW: We have Egypt in Bucks, right near Christmas Common.
One of the reasons I stopped giving my tuppenceworth on RTC was because I don’t like bullying,and certain posters got it large.

If you start punching someone about the face, head and parts of the body, the law of the land says it is assault and a criminal act. If you do it within an agreed set of rules and wearing gloves it is called boxing.
The law of the land says you make take many drugs. Some on prescription and some freely available over the counter. The Olympic Committee has a very different view and has removed many a medal eg Alain Baxter the skier to name but one.

If rules say you cannot take drugs, even if they are legal, then that is absolutely fine. If the rules state you cannot handle a football, even if it is legal, then that is fine.
If however the rules state, we can come and knock on your door any day, fine you £5 million because we dont like the way you cut your grass on your football pitch and suspend you from all competitions because your chairman has a rubbish haircut but if you disagree with us and take us to court, then you are out, then im thinking that is wrong
Well it’s June and the hun players get their wages put back up. Until they leave at bargain prices of course. Another great bit of business there.
Meanwhile over at the SFA I hope an Appeals Tribunal meeting is being swiftly arranged to increase the punishment.
And at Harper MacLeod I hope they are pouring through all of the paperwork they have recently received. And making sure that it all ties up with what is already in the public domain.

I agree.it really smacks of short term thinking by the Duffers. Surely inserting a clause that a new owner would pay up the losses in wages would have prevented the ‘escape clause’ and allowed them to sell their players for top dollar. This will cost them millions.

WITH Scottish football’s rage against Rangers at boiling point, the SFA last night moved closer to booting the beleaguered club out of the game.
The governing body are under pressure from a growing number of clubs to deal with Rangers once and for all and must now impose one of two sanctions.
They can either terminate Rangers’ membership to play ANYWHERE in the world or throw them out the Scottish Cup. And that means would-be owner Charles Green will have no choice but to go cap in hand to SFA chief executive Stewart Regan in a bid to avoid the ultimate sanction.
Rangers’ Court of Session victory earlier this week backed the SFA into a corner and infuriated other clubs.
But the SFA’s task now is a simple one. They have only two options remaining.
The Independent Judicial Panel, which sat in judgment on Rangers in April, tried to hand down a punishment that reflected the severity of the club’s mismanagement but deliberately stayed away from withdrawing membership.
But now that is what might happen. Rangers refused to accept a 12-month signing ban after they and owner Craig Whyte were found guilty of numerous breaches of football law.
The club’s administrators Duff and Phelps lost an appeal to an SFA tribunal then went to court in
Edinburgh to have the transfer ban lifted.
Even though Lord Carloway had chaired the appeals body, Lord Glennie ruled on Tuesday the ban was beyond the SFA’s powers.
Last night they accepted his decision to send the matter back to the appeals tribunal.
But Rangers can expect no mercy now – and this time the sanction will stand.
With FIFA, who refuse to allow the law of any country to interfere with their game, watching closely, the SFA will have to come down hard on Rangers.
If they don’t the entire Scottish game will suffer. Rangers also know they have to be punished, although by winning in court they have left themselves wide open to more damaging reprisals.
During Whyte’s short but catastrophic reign PAYE on wages wasn’t handed over to the tax man, now due as much as £15million, apart from the many millions that could be due if Rangers lose the Big Tax Case.
The SFA believed a £100,000 fine and 12-month ban on signing players over 18 meant Rangers could still trade – but the club’s future has now been thrown into doubt.
Green could be left with a club shunned by the entire game. The Yorkshireman, who said he wants to meet with SFA chief Reagan to sort things out, can now only hope for a Scottish Cup ban. That’s the least other SPL clubs and FIFA will expect.
An SFA statement read: “Football must always operate within the law of the land. None the less, it is regrettable a member club has sought recourse for a football disciplinary matter through increasingly costly civil court action.
“The right of appeal is now open to the Scottish FA through the Court of Session.
“However, by so doing, the very principles on which the Scottish FA – and, for that matter, UEFA and FIFA – are founded, namely football disciplinary matters being dealt with within its own jurisdiction, would be fundamentally compromised.
“Therefore, it is our intention to accede to Lord Glennie’s request and refer the matter back to the appellate tribunal, which will consider the remaining sanctions open to it.”
The SFA have officially alerted FIFA to their legal rift with Rangers.
Hampden bosses wrote to the world governing body in Switzerland yesterday and a FIFA spokesman confirmed: “The SFA have contacted FIFA with regards to the Rangers situation. We will provide further information in due course.”
And Regan said via Twitter: “We are in consultation with FIFA at present.”

With Rangers opposition to the transfer ban we have finally found some common ground between us and them. Apparently we would both rather see a dead Rangers than simply a beaten Rangers.
