SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

The SFA and SPL have just announced that SPL2 IS a reality for next season. They have enough likeminded teams to make the 10 team league a reality. The SPL2 line up for next year is

Longmuir stated that the SFL div 1 clubs have instructed him to seek talks on league re construction on the basis of all 42 clubs

SPL2 torpedoe below the water line, only a lunatic would pursue plans for SPL2

  5. well i am happy about that result, very happy. dont see how they could push through a spl 2 without massive fallout from spl and sfl fans and chairmen. a u-turn would damage spl/ sfl clubs beyond repair afterall they have all sold season tickets of the back of the no vote.

this has some way to run maybe, but its time for the spl and sfl to sit down and discuss how the future of scottish football will be mapped out. structural changes are needed ASAP for the good of the game.

we need a leader to emerge and push scottish football forward p.s. those in position need not apply as no-one has confidence in you or your vision.

    one year plan:

one ruling body (to much money spent on to many governing bodies)

similiar t.v deal to the one we have with oldco in league as a starting point (scottish football television if no suitable offers recieved)

three profesional league of 16 -14 -14, 1 euro play-off, 2 relegated, 1 relegation play-off, openning up game to lower levels (regenal league, joniors, highland league)

    points change i.e 3 win, 2 Sdraw, 1 NS-draw, 0 loss

25 max squad size – no under 21 rule

fair share of t.v monies between teams

and we dont have to worry about any rules because we all know they can be bent to suit the sitaution dont we!

  6. SFL PRESIDENT JIM BALLANTYNE

“We don’t have any control over the SPL. And they are entitled to do whatever they wish, within their own rules.

“But it’s important to mention that the Division One clubs went out of their way to make it clear that their route regarding a solution involved all 42 teams.

“I think that says a lot for them.

“Other bodies are going to have to look at the decision we’ve taken and decide what view they are going to take.

“As far as we’re concerned, it’s crystal clear and it was a massive majority.

“The talk of financial meltdown is scary for everybody but that completely ignores the views of the fans.

“The fans have been vociferous in their view of what this whole situation may bring.

“Every single club would be happy to tell you about the amount of contact they have had from supporters, expressing concern.

“I’ve never know anything like it in the 10 years I’ve been involved in football.”

“This one particular completely covers every single club and the message coming across from every club is exactly the same, even from Rangers fans themselves: if they had their choice it would be Division Three.

“That reflected the views of First, Second and Third Division clubs.

“You have to consider what the actions of fans may be if sporting integrity is challenged.

“Who has put a price on what will happen if they do not come to watch games?

“Yes, clubs are worried about figures in one direction but there is a huge concern about figures in the other direction.

“It’s a very brave decision from the SFL but I’m not surprised.”

I heard a bit of the presser from Hampden earlier. Salivating hacks unable to keep their emotions in check. Two of them sounded suicidal as they spat out their questions. Sod them – the sooner they are laid off the better … we don’t need their lies and scaremongering any more.

Well done to all the SFL clubs who voted to uphold their position on new clubs starting at the bottom.

The fans and bosses of most of the small Scottish clubs have a lot to proud of today. They said no to bullying and refused to bow down before the blue pound and Murdoch’s dollar. I will raise a toast to them tonight.

I find your latest post outrageously negative. You’re giving credence to that competely discredited nonentity Doncaster. This is a time to savour and celebrate. Seems you are suggesting that a prosperous Newco and the liquidity of the SPL are inextricably linked. We rely on no-one, least of all those who detest our very existence.

Just in to get the message. Thank you BSR.

    Are we happy yet?

Are we still arguing amongst ourselves about the dead club and their new manifestation?

My glass is half full, (actually totally full just now), and I make no apologises for renewing my ST in May and asking little of the board but giving 100 per cent to Celtic.

I support Celtic and if they, the board, asked me to double my financial contribution to help them better our club, be it in Scotland, or preferably in some better league, I would in a heartbeat.

Well played Celtic, well played the board, well played the board and especially well played the Internet bampots.

TBB you should write the book that tells the story of this momentous journey. You just put things in order so well. No disrespect to the many fine contributors on this blog.

To my mind it will live or die depending on what crowds turn out to watch football this coming season.

  23. So the choice now for those who favour Sevco is clear: accept the views of Scotland’s clubs and get on with next season OR try to put into place an even bigger fix that no one else wants.

Doncaster, Regan and Longmuir have had their plans decisively rejected twice now. Will they take the message and go now or try for a third time?
