Significant supporter relations initiative

577

Celtic’s statement yesterday (available on Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s site) covered a lot of ground.  It explained the environment the club operates in, its policies and strategy, gave historical context of their objections to the Offensive Behaviour Bill and on-going opposition to the Act.  In short:

Where we are
How we arrived here
What we’re doing about it

Most importantly of all, the club again advertised the Supporters Complaints Review Panel, populated by Celtic fans to investigate and review complaints by fans.  The importance of this structure has yet to be fully understood but it is the most significant development in supporter relations since Brother Walfrid said, ‘How you do fancy starting a football club?’

I spoke to three prominent supporters yesterday about the schisms among us, all of us were so dispirited.  Fortunately, our good friend Jeanette cheered me up this morning and assured me we are pretty much on the one road (my words and not a cue for a song).

And it was Jeanette Findlay, not Krankie, before you ask.

The football will be back soon, hang on in there.

  1. Shearer and Hamilton of Dundee tried to copy Dunky’s style, but failed.

Even his hair style was cool and ahead of his time.

Not sure when it closed (need to check) maybe it was Beeching shortly afterwards, we’d come in from the east side, same station.

John Divers was a big heavy, slower version of John Hartson【ツ】

  4. Seem to remember another game roughly same time as thirds game….happened to be on a friday evening at celtic park against the huns in the glasgow cup…thems scored first and were then given a dubious penaly saved by celtic goal keeper….the fans knew they were cheated and burst into ..for its a grand od team to play for….sheer bedlam….every celtic fan in the stadium sang that song…..then celtic scored..i think they went on to score a few more…..to this day i have never heard the celtic song sung as loud

  5. Only then, it was inside forward.

He had great way of tackling, where he seemed to wrap his foot round the ball and take it with him.

He also had a kind of shuffling, running style, with his head down.

  6. topcat,

I think we went on to win that game, 3-1.

Kai Johannson hit the bar with a penalty, then tried to score with rhe rebound, which, of course you can’t do.

The best Hun game I ever attended, and I went to a few.

It may have been the game where the hun defence took it in turns to kick wee Jimmy onto the track.

Ian Archer described it as “on a rota system.”

That game`s available on You Tube,or certainly was.

    Affoot for lunch.

  8. macjay1,

You would have been at the GC game where a young David Hay stiffened Greig, who never recovered his aura of thuggery again.

  9. what is sickening to me is the very fact that our leadership [the board] are willing to enter in to reconstructing talks with the very people who are responsible for the mess that we have today that is supposed to be football,if our clubs leaders had any integrity themselves

they would be calling for mass resignations from our games governing bodies and a new

one formed with sporting integrity its unbreakable rule no matter what or by who, no instead we are collabarating with the very same people who have no integrity whatsoever

which in turn in my opinion makes our leadership just as corrupt by actually sitting down

with these very same people, i ask mr lawell and co are use blind to what has been going on? no i am sorry in my eyes you are just as corrupt, incidently i also accuse the other spl teams leaders of being just as corrupt, how come no one is calling for new leaders? does know one want to say what needs to be said and acted upon?

  10. Biggest disapointment about that era being a fan….was the league cup…at that time it was 4 teams in each section, each team played each other home and away..celtic were in same section as rangers..well they were beaten both at celtic park and ibrox…..then came league game at celtic park between the 2 of them ….beaten again..ie celtic…..all this happened within a space of a month……remember getting of the bus after the game meeting older huns who tried to advise me now was the time to change…wish i could see them now……………………

  11. I have been following all this with great interest and been trying to work out who is in the right. I’m not sure we will ever get an answer.

But can someone, somewhere explain to me why the board and PL in particular wish to “crush” the GB. I can get my head round PL having individual issues with them, like many fans do r.e. their political stance on things, and therefore wishing to trying and stop at side of things but I cannot find any reason why he would wish to crush them, unless I am missing something somewhere.

CQN and its Posters have Taught me More about Celtic than I could Ever have Imagined..

Especially the AuldHeeds (Which I Am Now) telling me about stuff before My Time..

Still feel like a Wee Bhoy Listening to My Grandad..

    Grand tucker it was too.

My earliest memory of Davie Hay was scoring a 30 yard belter which,I think, proved to be the winner against the hun at Celtic Park.

    2-1 win,I think

May have been the same game.

Wee dug on the Park: John Greig clap clap clap John Greig.

I have Not Commented on The GB..

I have Two Views of Them..

VMhan Generously gave me His SB for the Last H*ns Game and The Thai Tim’s game last Year..

My First Game (The Youth in Me).. I met Some of The GB around 11am outside their Section..

One of the Best Atmosphere Games I have Ever Attended..During the Game.. The Two Lads next to me.. When the Coloured Rangers Player (Sorry forget His Name) Took Out a Celtic Player on the Main Stand by Line.. A Drunk Irish Guy behind me (Who was Obviously Not in his Proper Seat/Area) Made a Comment.. A Term I had Never Heard of Before.. Directed at the Rangers Player.. The GB guy standing Next to me Went Nuts.. And tried to Remove the Guy from the Section.. All this Lasted about 5 Mins..The GB guy telling this Drunk what they (The GB) Stand for Etc.. I had Never Seen anything like that Happen at a Football match before..to that Extent..

My Second Game (The 50Yr. Old Dad) was the Thai Tim’s Game..

Nearly the Same Atmosphere if that was Possible.. Two Very Funny Moments/Songs.. ‘Taking Our Shorts off when Rangers Die’

    And..

‘Passing the Section when Rangers Die’ (Crowd Surfing)..

Hilarious at the Time.. But the older part of Me Knows.. Stewards/Police/Celtic would Not be Very Happy at this.. H&S keeps getting Mentioned..

In No Way am I saying this Relates to Any Action against The GB by Police/Stewards or Celtic FC bit if we Did that in Our Local we Would Probably get Barred..

    IMHO..

Celtic FC.. The Police and Stewards at Celtic Park should take into Account the Age of Most of these Supportes.. They are NOT Criminals.. And Most of Us Auld Foggies that are Commenting on them.. Have Done Much Much Worse within Celtic Park..

NB: No one ever Told me that Singing some Wee Rebel Songs and Peeing in a Can of Tennents was Giving Celtic a Bad Name.. But we Never had a ‘Big Brother’ then..
