Spinning Struth, high integrity and some great Celtic fans

749

It will make little difference to those who really should be paying attention.  Malcolm Murray left the Rangers International board yesterday with a statement to fans unlike anything previously heard from a departing director of a Scottish football club.  His warning is loud and clear, “Events of the last year have seen behaviour that would make the late, great, Bill Struth spin in his grave (no, he doesn’t mean the fact that all faiths are now employed at Ibrox)”.

It’ll make little difference because the groundwork has already been laid to ignore anything Malcolm Murray says by those who in previous years did the bidding of David Murray, Craig Whyte and Charles Green.  Notions of having a club “run by men of the highest integrity” don’t fit the narrative, talk of “mysterious individuals” will not be heard.

We’re now watching the equivalent of the opening scenes of Police Academy 4, the same farce will unfold with increasingly less interest from the wider world.

I know lots of good Celtic fans, lots and lots of them. Respect today to those who buy Overseas Season Tickets, meaning they can attend five games per season, but they buy tickets to 16 games for underprivileged supporters.

We are part of a genuinely incredible body of people. Stories like this simply don’t happen elsewhere. If you’re part of ‘the programme’, well done.

Just checked, Police Academy 4 was subtitled ‘Citizens on Patrol’. If only!!

QPR are closing on a deal for Celtic’s Gary Hooper, while Norwich also maintain an interest in the striker.

Manager Harry Redknapp is prepared to improve his offer to around £5million with add-ons.

I remember flying to Rotterdam from Gatwick a while back.

The plane got there-and turned back!

It had a problem which could not be repaired at Rotterdam-which was little more than an airfield then-and I was late for an interview.

All I got out of it was another blinkin’ airline meal……

  11. Fanad…,

I reckon PL’s got him hanted out like a doo, first sign of trouble at southampton he’ll be back at Celtic park with the jersey on ready to play, there was a wee message in his last statement, hoping he’ll be back playing for us again, so I reckon there’s a clause about company distress, player returns all bets are off, £6M up front, £3M next year, 30% if sold within a year, after which payments scheduled and any default return of player, future payments cancelled, past payments settle conditions of sale. So we should get him back after two years having received £9M no bad rent money :o)

  12. Got to love the Sevco way of thinking. Ex-chairman tells the world he paid the leccy bill…

    Bring in Two more players!

It will soon be, bye bye ya stupid ignorant huns once and for all.

  13. If Hooper signs for QPR he’s back where he started in the same league, it would then be all about the money! i have a hunch that he will sign , he & his mrs are best mates with KC & Lisa as well as others in the team. The question is , is he happy? If he goes to QPR no chance he will be on plane to Brazil & at a lower EPL club he wont get as many chances to do well either, i think if we get to group CL stage then he will stay. However if we get £6m then thats good money and as someone rightly said, hold onto him till January and some EPL relegation fodder will be desperate and will probably pay near £4m, small price to pay if he shoots us to CL group stage.

    Bollocks!

Unless you are privileged to look at the T&Cs (small print) – the only people who can claim FACT are; the buying/ selling Clubs. player and agent.

As Clashcitybhoy pointed out – EPL rules prevent extended H.P. (pay-up contracts).

Few buy/sell deals are similar – your choice if you want to pursue a pointless argument.

N.B. A Costa Rica player was called into his manager’s office recently and was told he was to be the subject of a swap deal – he was being trade to another club in exchange for 50 footballs!

On the subject of electricity bills, do I remember a hint given a few moths ago (perhaps by Charlotte) that the Ibrox electricity bill was in the name of Sevco 5088 and this gave the lie to Green’s claims of it never trading as it had a signed contract with the electricity board. Would this perhaps be why MM had to stump up the money? TRFC Ltd refusing to pay a bill for another company? Thoughts? Anyone else remember that?

If you believe Southampton have lodged 12m into Celtics bank account today you are deluded.

  21. Tommysbhoy, good point, and illustrates how depressed the spanish and other euro markets must be in this time of austerity. Surely now time to flex our increasing financial muscle? Playmaker anyone!

  22. 67heaven..,

That’s easy, so potential signings club and agents can’t try and extort on what they estimate is available, somebody said it earlier. And got to agree, I reckon we’ve lost out on a few who thought we could be pushed for a bit more base on their estimation and greed.

Re Hooper for £5m, I would be surprised if we let him go before the CL qualifiers have been (hopefully positively) resolved.

As a poster on here earlier said, at that point, we have a decision to make.

Hopefully we are into CL group stages, and we can sell Hooper for £4.5 / £5m , or he signs a new deal, or we retain him till Xmas and get £2 / £2.5 m from a club desperate to access EPL / maintain status.

Either option, we will still make a profit on his original fee.

Given our recent track record in signing strikers is poor, I would hold onto him for as long as practical.

  26. Fanad..,

Where did I say £12M+ was lodged in the CFC bank account (today)?

You seem convinced that PL has adopted a subservient financial role in this sale – you appear to be party to confidential financial facts – please inform us!

We didn’t need to sell – we were made an offer (from a willing buyer) – ergo as the seller we set the terms and conditions for our benefit (i.e. why mismanage an asset).

Now until you present me with an official statement or a link to an official document stating that payment will be spread over 4 years – then your original post is purely hypothesis.

Why don’t we call it a truce – we can take this up again when the balance sheet (with the transaction) is published at the next AGM (or maybe 2014 since it was after 30th June)?
