Spivs in for the long haul, relegate Hibs

Rangers International adopted a firm position in their court hearing against former director, Imran Ahmed, in Edinburgh yesterday.  Directors and major shareholders know they have a cash shortfall for next season, even if season ticket sales are as higher than anticipated.  Therefore, they know they will need to facilitate a loan, cough up for more shares or issue shares to new investors.   A few million here or there from season tickets will not change this fact – so the argument goes.

With that in mind the club is under no serious threat from fans turning towards Dave King’s glorious attempt to deprive them of cash.  Contrary to earlier reports, organised protests against the Easdales, Ashley and Laxey Partners is in no danger of putting the club under.

The best case scenario for King and his Band of Protagonists is that the club owners would be worn out by the sheer hassle of dealing with their campaign and would wilt before cutting a deal with him on very easy terms.  This does not look likely today, the owners appear intent on getting a return for their money.

At various times during the past two years I’ve offered goodwill towards Hibernian, wishing them well against Hearts in the 2012 Cup Final, encouraging them after they lost to Celtic in the 2013 Final, and on the Hail Hail Media Celtic History podcast I spoke about The Famous Five being the best team in Europe in the late 40s, but I’m all Hibs-d out.  I hope they are relegated.

50 years ago Hibs were almost the same size a club as Celtic, although Hibs were far more successful at the time.  The decades since have utterly destroyed whatever legacy left by The Famous Five.  Sir Tom Farmer’s ownership has provided financial stability but when he combined with Rod Petrie the pair contrived to bring about the most wasteful partnership in the history of the Scottish game – and that includes Sir David Murray’s years of unrestrained bombast.

New chief executive, Leann Dempster, has been more than a firm hand on the tiller at Motherwell, she delivered success over and above their station, but Hibs are so afflicted you wonder is anyone will be able to resurrect it with Petrie still in the chair, Farmer in ultimate control and Terry Butcher in the dugout.  Not only do they deserve relegation, it may be necessary for Dempster to clear-out the deadwood above and below her.  Better to be relegated than stumble on with Petrie and his Inverse Midas Touch.

Some good Celtic fans and CQN’ers are holding an event at Monroe’s Tavern in Galway tomorrow in aid of Console, the Irish suicide prevention charity.  One of the many auction items is the photo above, signed by Bertie Auld.  If you would like to help Console, stick a wee bid into ruairigucks@gmail.com .

I know there are lots of good restaurants and I’m doing my research but there is nothing like personal recommdations. I’m staying at the Marriott Maida Vale a nice one in North London would be ideal. Hope to meet and greet a few of you at the Hootenanny on Saturday. Hail Hail Hebcelt

    At least im honest enough to say on here what I think of neil lennon,as a coach I don’t rate , as a man I have no problems at all , and another thing a lot on here praise neil for him being irish ,sticking 2 fingers up at the establishment in this country.you people that support him ,have done more damage to him,that he feels he is obliged to say something,to keep all you bhoys happy.no wonder the man suffers from depression.

    ~~~~~~~~~~++~~~~~~~~~~
    By your suggestion,Neil feels duty bound to be the standard bearer for everything which Celtic (fans) hold dear but isn’t mentally or professionally capable of so doing.
    What a crock,the fella is in his dream job doing the best that he can. He only wants to be a standard bearer for his family,no-one else.
    The same as everyone does.
    Playing the depression card is a cheap shot.
    And as for the Ross County game? He took a team which regularly performed as they did that day on a great run of form.
    Give him credit for that,not a boot in the haw maws for a result which would have been no surprise earlier in the season.
    We get it,you don’t rate him. Your opinions are as valid here as anyone’s are. But your reasoning behind them is flawed.
  7. Hibs blotted their copy-book with me with their fans jumping on the hun bandwagon of abusing Neil Lennon. Right from the start of NL playing for Celtic they seemed to want try and out-do the hun in the vitriolic abuse . Send them down!
  8. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on
    Hibs and the baby huns in the 1st division will make a seamless progression for Sevco more difficult for the mibs. Not that it will stop them.
    I speculate that the removal of Rod Petrie from any sphere of influence is desired by Celtic.
    FORMER Celtic scout, Helena Costa, has made football history today with her appointment as manager of Clermont Foot, a club playing in the second tier of French football.
    It means she becomes the first female coach to manage a team in the men’s professional game in world football.
    Helena, who was most recently coach of the Iran women’s team, previously scouted for Celtic in Portugal and Spain between 2008 and 2011.
    The Portuguese coach will officially take up her new role at Clermont Foot at the end of the season in France.
    A spokesperson for Celtic said: “We would like to congratulate Helena sincerely on taking up this new role.
    “She did an excellent job for us and we know she will give her new position the same high level of commitment and dedication which she gave to Celtic.”
    Whether Hibernian or Kilmarnock (or neither) go down, the Scottish Championship will be the best league in Europe next season. We know this is the line our media jokers are already peddling.
    So that is a competition filled with teams not good enough to play in the Scottish Premiership or teams who have never played in the top league – who can argue with that logic?
  20. excathedra44 on
    Relegate Hibs?
    Could not care less but their attitude under Mowbray the day we lost the Title at M’Well still rankles.
    That said, their relegation and subsequent rebuild and financing under Butcher would, along with Hearts,provide a stiff opposition to The Departed on more than one front.
    Growing on me as I type.
  21. Celtic fans’ match-day experience could be boosted by a fan zone at Celtic Park next season, with the possibility of selling alcohol to up to 3,000 supporters.
    The idea is based on Manchester City’s “BT City Square” fan zone in which punters are treated to music, entertainment and special guests. A Celtic delegation will attend City’s match against Aston Villa tonight to observe how the fan zone works outside the Etihad Stadium.
    A source said: “There’s a realisation that we need to do more for fans around the stadium to boost the match-day experience.”
    Celtic bosses, who opened the new Celtic Way avenue for its fans last Saturday, plan to transform the old coach park behind the Jock Stein Stand so that food can be served until 15 minutes before kick-off and it will reopen before matches end. The fan zone will also enable supporters to wait for traffic congestion to ease.
    Hibs or Kilmarnock for the chop? Doesn’t bother me one bit.
  24. Quincy Adams Wagstaff on
    Don’t have much time Hibs but if it’s a choice between them and Kilmarnock then it’s a no brainer for me.
    Bye Bye Killie and take your 23 supporters with you
  25. thomthethim for Oscar OK on
    The last time Hibs were relegated, their attendances rose.
    Why? Because they were successful in the lower division, under Mc.Leish and won promotion.
    Fans like watching their team win regularly and, obviously wish to be associated with that success. Hence the increased attendances.
    In my view, if Celtic can perform to the level of the last few weeks, which coincided with the arrival of skillful, sharper players and an adjustment of playing style, then we will see more fans turning up: especially those who have bought STs.
    It is no coincidence that the support was more audibly involved in the game, with the manufactured “atmosphere” from the Stands.
    Exciting football creates bigger attendances and a better atmosphere.
