STALEMATE AS GORDON TALKS PUT ON HOLD

CRAIG GORDON’S contract talks have been put on hold, though Celtic remain confident the goalkeeper will commit his long-term future to the champions.

The 34-year-old Scotland international was a £3million target for Chelsea in last month’s transfer window, but Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers was adamant the shotstopper was not for sale.

However, reports persist that Real Madrid are keen to move for Stamford Bridge No.1 Thibaut Courtois in the summer and manager Antonio Conte may look again at Gordon when the transfer window re-opens in June.

The Hoops, though, remain determined that they will keep the classy keeper, who is under contract until June 2018.

Sources close to Gordon have intimated that the player is looking for a four-year extension to remain at Parkhead.

At the weekend, Rodgers dismissed a story linking him with Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil.

He said: “Tell me why I would be interested in him. Why would I want him when I have Craig Gordon who’s the sweeper ‘keeper and who’s top class?”
