Stand up for the Champions

I know when you begin to dominate a championship that when another team eventually lift the trophy it can seem like an intolerable failure; compare our distress in 2009 to our resolve to do better after the final home game in 1996.  Time adds perspective to our triumphs.  As does not being there and seeing photos of the presentation hours after the event.

These are special times, enjoy them.

Many thanks to the Columba Club in Blantyre for Friday night’s Question and Answer event, and to the irrepressible Phil Agnew, who organised the event.  I was delighted to share a stage with Paul McConville and Phil Mac Giolla Bhain.  Great to see so many CQN’ers there too, my only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to catch up with everyone. With supporters like those in Blantyre on Friday night, we’re in good hands.

Remember to buy Heart of a Lion, Willie Wallace’s magnificent autobiography, available below.

I agree he is the worse type around. I seriously cannot stomach the rat.

Sorry about missing Friday night mate but other things got in the way. I will explain over a beer soon as I may need to pick your brain.

  4. Sometimes we can be overly sensitive about pundits’ comments in the heat of the moment.

However, whilst I posted yesterday in relation to my disgust at Walker’s comments, cool reflection (in this instance) has not dimmed my dismay at this ex-servant of the club.

The comments were crass, inaccurate and inconsistent with the media focus on misdemeanours by Celtic employees, whether on or off the field of play.

Nicholas and McGarvey (in particular), Walker and, to a lesser extent, Provan either go out of their way to be “controversial” or have (a) chip(s) on their shoulder(s) regarding some perceived sleight from the club.

BBJ and Packie Bonner are ex players who have no problem calling it as it is. I don’t think, however, they are trying to be pro-Celtic they just not dance to any particular tune.

Sky and ESPN have panels whose make-up bamboozle me at times (i.e., no Celtic ‘balance’ to ex-RFC RIP contributors). However, the selectors should not lazily choose people who happen to have Celtic on their CV without involving themselves in some critical analysis of their ability and accuracy in punditry.

Was in Babbity’s too last night (although only for a quick pint while waiting for my taxi around 9:30). Said to Mrs BGFC that there would be other CQN chaps in the vicinity – wish I had a CQN badge on!

Was there when the old chap from Cork was singing the Flower of Sweet Strabane – best of order!

  7. Watched the game – The boy has a look at Lustig and the straight arms him in the face. Lustig was was lucky not to be sporting a phantom of the opera mask next season.

Andy Walker think he was ‘the victim of experience’…

Replays show how violent and calculated the assault was. The guy has a smug grin on his face.

Walker finds ways to not call it for what it was.

Funnily enough the wee arsehole didn’t have the same grin on his coupon when he headed in our fourth…

Andy Walker – enjoy your soup. Between Nevin and you there can’t be a tin of broth to be had anywhere.

The link has been cut- either they are trying to ignore it or its going to be cited for action- knowing the SFA there is a big broom sweeping like feck just now

  17. Just watched the Wright elbow incident. The guy is an utter disgrace and I hope Lunny takes action. Walker’s comments were lamentable.

    Remarkable watford v leicester

Leicester get dodgy pen well into injury time -keeper saves pen and rebound they break up the pitch and score 7 mins into injury time

    Game over

  22. pabloh_AKA_NEIL LENNON on

Superb action at Watford!! Blatant dive for pen in 6th minute added on would’ve put Leicester through. Double save by almunia and Watford go straight up other end and win it, cue pitch invasion. Mayhem!!
