Celtic face Icelandic champions Stjarnan in their opening Champions League qualifier, with the first leg just three weeks away. Stjarnan knocked Motherwell out of the Europa League last season, by all accounts the Scottish club should have given a much better account of themselves.
It will be vastly more concerning to Ronny Deila that they went on to eliminate Lech Poznan in the next round. Lech finished second in Poland, just two points behind our old pals Legia Warsaw, and the Polish season starts two weeks before Scotland’s, so there is nothing to be complacent about.
A three goal home defeat at the hands of Inter Milan ended Stjarnan’s European adventure, but by that stage the Icelandic fans must had expired their European budget for the season, the trip to the San Siro would have been a suitable place to bow out.
The other consequential information when we draw teams from near the Arctic Circle is that they are midseason and (from what I can make out) play on an artificial surface.
I’ve no idea what happened to Motherwell and Lech Poznan but there are no excuses for either team and there will be none for Celtic. Let’s get the job done.

If your still hanging around, been meaning to ask what kind of coverage the Great Rfc1872 scandal has been getting in Italy. Surely worse than Rube’s crimes, or was it?
Possibly 3 weeks late but can I applaud the club and PL for the series of games in Paisley.
Cheap tickets, small ground, good crowd and a great atmosphere and some interesting opponents. Great start to the seaso, slow build up leading to a game at CP.
Hopefully it will be a template we use often.
One issue I do have is that we should have a Youth / Reserve ground close to CP.
Offer it to the local community and what about a junior team to help fill it over the winter.
Big miss at the moment in addition to the glacial progress regarding developing the area surrounding the ground.
The recent tidy up and the new flags and “tapestries” are a start but at some stage it will need to move forward towards facts on the ground.
Oh well I can but dream.
I wonder if the local egg chasers are going to be able to include safe standing at ascot Scotstoun?
They are on a roll at the moment– no pun intended honest — and they could do with some cheap additions to the ground.

Some interesting numbers coming to the fore regarding the TFOD Tribute Act’s budget for the coming season.
£6mill all in for the football budget.
£8K pw to DW as their Gazebo signing.
Looks like it will be 6 approx on similar money and the rest on £2 / 3K pw plus win bonus.
Interesting to see their signing policy now that they seem to have found a manager who can actually manage.
Interesting to see what he can deliver — interesting guy and background.
Unfortunately the club are looking more and more a shambles wrapped up in a train wreck surrounded by a catastrophe.
The Great Universal TFOD II Conspiracy Theory is currently so outlandish it looks as if it has been scripted by David Icke — I am waiting for the “green” lizard aliens to come out of hiding.

Doc made an erse of something, sorry but I don’t believe that for a minute
Your jealousy knows no bounds concerning that man…you should be ashamed of yourself :)
Btw how’s the fit, and I’m not talking youfamistically, haha
Sevco are rapidly running out of ex Rangers players to sign and time to pretend to their diminishing and gulĺible hun supporters that it’s the same club that died.
Oh its up now

Don’t think that we should be too hard on Wilson. He wanted to come but our interest never went so far as to offer him anything. It’s a tough old game.
As for Scott Allan surely not for us. Hope the press talk pushes up the price.

Is that where the Old lithy club (blue tin hut) , the old mans rest and “Busbys” stood?
If RD is looking to strengthen our midfield options and wants to buy Scottish, I would much rather see us sign John McGinn as back up for Broonie than Scott Allan.

Better than your journey home on Saturday night must have been

Was it you I exchanged posts with about a pending visit to Dublin by yourself and good lady a while back
If so, how did you get on
If not you, apologies
Happy with the draw.
From the been
1) Celtic’s opponents Stjarnan are best known for a bizarre series of choreographed goal celebrations which took internet by storm a few years ago. A compilation of their best efforts – including ‘the bicycle’, ‘fish out of water’ and ‘the human toilet’ – has over been watched over four million times on YouTube.
2) Stjarnan won their first Úrvalsdeildar title in dramatic fashion last season. They were two points behind leaders FH when they went head to head of the final day of the season. Both sides were undefeated and, needing three points to leapfrog their rivals, Stjarnan converted a stoppage time penalty to seal a 2-1 victory and get their hands on the trophy.
3) The Icelanders beat Welsh side Bangor City, Motherwell and Polish side Lech Poznan in the Europa League qualifying rounds last season, but their first ever European campaign was emphatically ended as they were hammered 9-0 on aggregate by Inter Milan in the play-off for the group stage.
Motherwell’s Fir Park that year, and they were pictured celebrating with their shirts off in the stands as the Icelanders twice came from behind to claim a shock 2-2 draw.
5) This season, Stjarnan have not fared so well in the Úrvalsdeildar. After eight games, they sit sixth in the 12-team league with 12 points.
6) Stjarnan play their home games at the Stjörnuvöllur stadium, which only has one stand and a capacity of around 1,000. It is located in Gardabaer, the sixth largest town in Iceland with a population of around 14,000.
7) The majority of Stjarnan’s squad are from Iceland, but they also have two Danes, one Faroe Islander and Pablo Punyed, a Miami-born El Salvador international with six international caps.
8) Despite their goal celebration fame, Stjarnan’s official Twitter account has fewer than 2,000 followers.
9) Stjarnan’s manager is Rúnar Páll Sigmundsson. A former Iceland youth interntional who had a spell at the club during his playing career and has also coached Norwegian club Levanger FK.
10) Stjarnan’s women’s team has been enjoyed more success than their male counterparts in recent years, winning three league titles and two domestic cups since 2011.

Agree with that, and also a natural left sided back up
I actually thought, from what I seen on television, Fraser Fivie and Dylan McGeoch looked every bit as good as Allan
And no idea where Sevco will find any transfer fee, Hibs won’t take tic, will they :-))

geez a brek…am no that auld!! :))
Reason I know is that I have a book with old photographs of Bellshill and Mossend, and was browsing (perhaps reminiscing is a better word) over the weekend!
Would that be the “old Lithy or the “new Lithy” at the bridge?

Has anybody seen this stjarnans goal celebrations they are quite something?!
So John Kennedys quite happy with just one addition to the squad, well john im not.we at least are due 3 good players, but being employed by employers like celtic football club.you will know how miserable they are,and this Daily Record needs chased down Kerydale street, never any positive to say about Celtic, back page headline,Genk manager telling his player not to go to Celtic, any other teams that try and sign players ,get all the encouragement to sign players. I like a handful of celtic supporters wanted Danny Wilson to sign for us,but it looks if he is going to sign for Sevco. now if ever was a lesson for Ronny the manager,is not to let the cat out the bag when answering questions to the media,on possible transfers to Celtic, and thats were we need a good pr man or woman,i would like to see Michael Stewart get that position.
Lennybhoy
No problem, maybe you can talk Leftclictic to come over to, he can throttle the two grandsons for me, running about in their Rangers strips noo, Wee Shites!!!, I can thank Oldtim for that saying haha get mae ;)

Great picture, I even remember the pub on the corner and had a few scrapes in the old Lithy hall. Next you’ll be posting the old Derby Inn!
Nostalgia aint wot itusetobe.

On European nights for the Scottish clubs how will MSM somehow manage to mention the dead Rangers?
WITS,
Always knew that you were one of the sharper ones on here.
Had to laugh at the Daily Ranger’s back page this morning. Celtic pinching a Belgian international striker (with a £2m bid) and the zombies free agent 35 year old journeyman is jetting in for signing talks.

Marrakesh Express.
Italian fitba media factually and accurately covered the downfall of the Deady Bears .There was some return of The Old Firm guff @ last seasons Cup tie.The failure of the new lot to gain promotion to the SPl got a wee mention..
Rube were systematically trying to influence the refereeing of Serie A games and how the media reported Rube games and games which affected Rube’s rivals.
