Stuck in a league without competition also has benefits

519

When the Champions League draw was made, I feared we would face Anderlecht at home on the final game after five defeats.  This would not necessarily have been the end of our interest in European football, but it would have damaged the momentum in the club in recent months.

You will remember, ahead of match day five, we discussed that the Anderlecht-Bayern Munich game was probably more important to our season than the PSG-Celtic game.  As it transpired, Bayern’s second half winner made all the difference to the second half of our season.

News last night that Celtic are the only group stage qualifier from the Champions Pot to still be in European competition offer some comfort; outcomes could have been a lot worse.

While European football is the custard in our doughnut, all I hear from is Celtic fans who are grateful it is over for a couple of months.  We have an unbeaten record to further and two games a week until the January break.

It can be pretty horrible, a huge club stuck in a minor league without competition, but it offers us respite, an opportunity to recharge, experiment and return afresh.

  1. Nally- i wonder if the online threats and abuse Tony Docherty got, played a part in his decision.?

  2. !!Bada Bing!!

According to Phil Mac(last night) it was made known to McInnes that his assistant was not welcome, their hatred will always keep them in the backwater swamp.

Shaktar Donertsk manager Paulo Fonseca wore a Zorro mask and hat to his press conference last night. I think this could catch on.

    *******

I saw his press conference on the news last night …. thought it was brilliant!

Not sure if I could get away with wearing a mask and cape in court… but might add a bit of panache to the proceedings!

  4. Eurochamps67 great result…..wishing you a speedy and full recovery ;-))

MWD congratulations & good luck ;-))

If NFL learned anything from our game against Anderlecht it’s…..that the way we’re set up and conditioned to playing…..we don’t cope well against a high pressing team. However, most teams we play here don’t have the energy levels to sustain it for 90mins….so a 2-0 win to the guid ghuys

  5. It seems to me that the so called friendly and genouros, folk of Glasgow, are contributing,to the Homeless, and Beggars, that is a major problem,I have seen these folk, and in my eyes, quite a lot of them are very young person’s,who should be in work,I think it’s the Government or the Council,to help these unfortunate people ,back into work ,and play a big part into achieving there goal ,of having a decent roof over there heads to,I am led to believe there are people ,on good money trying to help these folk , but for me looking on in the outside ,it ain’t working,

More than a few on here have some connections with Clydebank, and they might find it interesting to watch the BBC2 doc. at 9pm tonight on the story of one bomb hitting Jellicoe Street in March 1941. One of many that is.

Seem to remember someone on here reciting a story from that period, must have been BRTH. Had to be.

  8. Must admit bit surprised by Dekxit. I think he has seen what …ahem…megabucks he has if he moves to skint fc & what he has if he stays.

BUT …imho….he’s more in firing line if he cant take us on to be 1st than he would be with Aberdeen.

  9. Jeezo….Jimbob…..where to start with that nonsense….I won’t….why don’t you go and educate yourself on the root causes of homelessness….then mibbe I’ll engage you in a conversation

I think he was tapped up weeks ago and agreed to go but they then decide to play mind games

With the up and coming double header.

To my mind I thought mckinnes was irritated at the delay and that’s why he changed his mind.

Because the sevies wouldn’t have put their head above if they weren’t sure it was a done dea!

Thanks for the reminder about the Clydebank Blitz Documentary tonight.

I will want to see that.

Jellicoe Street received a massive hit and I think that is where the entire Rocks family were wiped out.

To this day, we still don’t know all the detail surrounding the Clydebank Blitz where, in my opinion, the people were the targets and not the shipyards and factories as commonly thought.

At the time, the workforce in Clydebank could literally build, forge, manufacture and distribute everything from sowing machines to munitions, wood and metal producs, engines, tyres, all manner of vehicles and parts and many an item that would further the war effort.

Yards and factories can be rebuilt but that expertise, knowledge and spirit was invaluable and of course could be redepolyed in another location.

For years after the war the people and the town of Clydebank was neglected, ignored, discriminated against and simly abused bys uccessive British Governments who did more damge to those people than the Luftwaffe.

  14. STARRY PLOUGH/JIMTIM-did the griff say he didn’t want to score against Hibs or that he wouldn’t celebrate?Guys it’s called having a wee bit of class. You see it happening all over the place.Did Henke celebrate when he scored for Barcelona at Celtic Park?:-))))

Leaving aside the annual Sevco Pantomine (oh no we won’t) … we could field these young outfield ‘ prospects’ (with average age 20) and feel excited …

    Ralston (19) Simunovic (23) Ajer (19) Tierney (20)

    Roberts (20) N’Ctham (21) Kouassi (19) Benyu (19)

    Dembele (21) Edouard (19)

… but I think we need to be signing more ‘European ready’ players in the January window, assuming they are not cup-tied from CL / EL group stages.

Additionally we will have 4 players (Lustig, Gamboa, Boyata and Rogic) away at the World Cup and also 2 loan players (Roberts and Edouard) who may or may not be with us next season, as we face 4 rounds of CL qualifiers from mid July.

    Interesting transfer window ahead !

  18. A CQNer posted about a month ago that we should prepare ourselves for a Media onslaught re McInnes going to Ibrox as Sevco would soon be having back to back games against the Dons. After the two games were over, McInnes would still be with Aberdeen who might have been unsettled enough to do badly against Sevco.

Huh! Did any of that actually happen ?

Well Well some people don’t like the truth about Homeless People,I am not a heartless man,but somebody needs to take the bull by the horn ,and help these folk out of there misery, and I might as well say it ,a lot of them are not interested in helping themselves, they are all not alcoholics,or drug addicts,so spit out your tea or whatever ,but it’s people like you ,that these people are stuck in a ruck,
