Stuck in a league without competition also has benefits

519

When the Champions League draw was made, I feared we would face Anderlecht at home on the final game after five defeats.  This would not necessarily have been the end of our interest in European football, but it would have damaged the momentum in the club in recent months.

You will remember, ahead of match day five, we discussed that the Anderlecht-Bayern Munich game was probably more important to our season than the PSG-Celtic game.  As it transpired, Bayern’s second half winner made all the difference to the second half of our season.

News last night that Celtic are the only group stage qualifier from the Champions Pot to still be in European competition offer some comfort; outcomes could have been a lot worse.

While European football is the custard in our doughnut, all I hear from is Celtic fans who are grateful it is over for a couple of months.  We have an unbeaten record to further and two games a week until the January break.

It can be pretty horrible, a huge club stuck in a minor league without competition, but it offers us respite, an opportunity to recharge, experiment and return afresh.

If Mc.Innes turned down Sevco, he would be professionally and socially ruined.

He would be failing to answer the distress call, which I reckon would be a Black Ball scenario.

    An oath is an oath.

Perhaps Tiny Tim of this parish would understand more of their crafty ways.

  2. “but it offers us respite, an opportunity to recharge, experiment and return afresh.” …and Old Firm bigot buck lest not forget.

  3. driveways, pension plans, hypocrisy, and business continuity plans depend on Scottish parishioner bigot bucks and here was me thinking Charlie Nicholas style that it was all one sided.

The Mcinnes saga is a charade, nothing more, nothing less. For that merde chairman of the sheep, he is a puppet and a bigot. Of course McInnes is going to hunville

*Listen to me, you never listen to me. Nothing changes here waddle invaded a Scotland WC training camp tae sign signed wee mclean and then justified it by saying it was good for the national side even though the then manager former deidco goalie lambasted it.

  5. I’m assuming that McInnes will wash up at Ayebrokes soon.

For Aberdeen, it’s been like death by a thousand cuts.

Who will they recruit as replacement now.

Their team seemed demoralized in the 2 games versus McInnes’s eleven.

They have a local derby tomorrow to help them re-focus quickly.

McInnes & Dochery’s wages for the first 6 months will be in Newco shares vouchers.

    Roll on the 30th December.

  6. Their over the moon on Fester Fester that Dek is going to be the new manager. This is the same peepal who a couple of weeks ago were crying No No No not him. It has taken so long that anybody will do. Well played the Lying King you suckered the numpties big time.

  7. Hearing that the stumbling block is the “no poaching ” term in McInnes contract. Tony has suggested Eggs Benedict as an alternative.

  8. Rock Tree Bhoy on

Shortbread have just announced that Derek McInnes is staying at Aberdeen…pretty sure thats what I heard.

  9. KingLubo,

Idle curiosity. I wonder how a MSSM ( Main Stream Sevco Media) would respond in the very unlikely event of Celtic leaving the SPFL.

Would they still report our games? Would they still run us down at every opportunity? How would the news of our departure be reported? Rats and sinking ships or Sevco see off great rivals?

How would we, as a support, respond to such a situation? Our role as second class citizens in our own country and Authorities` bias against us go part of the way for giving us our sense of our Club being special. Would that all change in a league where we were treated fairly? Would victories be less enthusiastically received? Would honours be less meaningful?

  10. Safe to say RM is in total nuclear meltdown.

Thing is, by now, most of the Dons fans don’t want him either.

  11. the long wait is over on

Let them appoint who they want – it doesn’t matter.

You can have Lewis Hamilton drive a clapped out jalopy you don’t have the money to do up properly – it still isn’t going to win you anything.

Having said that if McInnes turns them down now I’ll have another wee chuckle…

  13. Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is to remain at Pittodrie despite an approach from Rangers.

On Tuesday, the Dons rejected Rangers’ request to speak to McInnes about the Ibrox vacancy.

The 46-year-old, who played for Rangers, was interested in speaking to the club but will remain at Pittodrie.

  14. Oh dear, I have been dipping in and out of Rangers Media this afternoon and they absolutely were convinced the deal was done. One or two of them mentioned the “what if . . . ” scenario and were ridiculed saying the Sheep fans had turned on him big time so there was no way he would stay.

Looking forward to the Hibees at the weekend.

Think we will benefit from a sense of relief at Job Done in Europe and that, coupled with the fact that Hibs play football not cluggery, should make for a good game.

    Which we will win 3-1.

Also think playing away will benefit us.

As for McInnes, I would still be surprised if he moved to the Comedy Tent. He correctly identified Sunderland as a career-ending basket case of a club, and Sunderland is a model of moral and financial probity compared to the street-corner pimps of Edmonton Drive.

But who cares, he can go and fry his arse as far as I’m concerned.

Makes no difference to us. For we are the only game in town, and everybody knows it.

  16. That’s better

So – will we get the truth

‘He looked under the bunnet and found a damp squib’ or

‘Aberdeen will not hold Rankers to ransom, we didn’t want him anyway’

    Welcome back brother McLeish

  17. the long wait is over on

The BBC reporter did well to type that report , bearing in mind he’s spewing in a bucket as we speak…

  18. The whole McInnes thing was a smokescreen so The Sheep could “lose” two games against the huns because as we all know the huns need Euro fitbaw…allegedly…

Now it’s business as usual with the huns six points to good and Mr Milne with his new housing project…allegedly…

So into the festive programme with six points tucked away and defeat to us at New Year isn’t so painful is it??
