Sublime Celtic, Morgan, Lennon, Caldwell, Budge

337

Jim McIntyre must wonder if accepting the Dundee job was his wisest move.  Losing 0-5 to Celtic does not get anyone sacked, but the ease with which the champions unpicked his team was alarming.

It was a sublime performance by Celtic, but in truth, it was so easy, you could not name a player who needed to deliver a top performance.  Rogic (fabulous goal), Forrest, McGregor, Sinclair and Christie dictated issues between them.  By halftime, all that mattered was to complete the game without injury, a hope which was unfulfilled.

I liked what I saw of Daniel Arzani.  He is reminiscent of a stockier Patrick Roberts.  We will get goals from him.  While Lewis Morgan treated us to the rare spectacle of taking corner kicks with both feet.  The first Celtic player to do this since Lubo?  This is an indicator of a deep innate ability.

While Celtic were strolling around Dens in second gear, Saturday’s opponents Hearts, were required to put a shift in to earn a point against Hibs.  Neil Lennon was assaulted by a missile at Tynecastle, days after a Hearts fan brought widespread condemnation for striking a pensioner with a thrown bottle on Sunday.  Although the uproar was not widespread enough to encompass the usually verbose Ann Budge.  Maybe if such matters were faced full on by Hearts they would be less frequent.  Neil’s former team-mate, Gary Caldwell, should consider the man has endured the most violent and persistent racist and sectarian abuse than anyone in Scotland for decades.  The good humour Neil maintains is miraculous.

As we hoped in yesterday’s blog, both teams above Celtic dropped points, meaning we moved above Kilmarnock and within four points of Hearts, with a game in hand.  The title push is well underway.

Releasing annual accounts on the evening of a game, that old trick!  If it was me announcing a £14m loss I might do the same.  Maybe pick up on this later.

Ah one of the more erudite types of the malcontent troop, rest assured we shall be monitoring your posts more closely in future…

  2. PFA Scotland have made a statement on player being assaulted last night, I don’t remember them saying anything when Broonie was attacked at Poundland last year, and an industrial size battery just missed LG? Reprehensible…..

Terrible work by WITS on here, doesn’t he know the use of £49 in an abuse of Celtic supporters is already copyrighted?

I very rarely post but need to get something of my chest. The excellent domestic performances have, unfortunately, been accompanied by our normally great support singing from a songbook that contains very few actual Celtic songs bringing embarrassment to the club. Whilst there are many great genuine Rebel songs that have a place within our playlist the abomination of Beautiful Sunday (along with a number of other ‘hard core’ songs) is not one of them.

Quite simply all this is doing is providing food and drink to those that need little encouragement to criticise our club and support (check out Neil Cameron’s match report in today’s Herald).

I know this view won’t be supported by many on here who are either prepared to accept or ignore the damage being done to the club but there are many of us that are concerned about this development.

It’s hard to know what to do about it as the horse may have already bolted but maybe a request from the club, managers and players may help make a difference but that’s unlikely to happen.

Let’s just get back to putting more focus on supporting the team.

    ……………………………….

I agree totally. The OB chant on Saturday and last night was embarrassing.

  5. On TalkSport this morning Jim White dedicated his programme to Neil Lennon’s unacceptable provocative behaviour at Tynecastle last night. What a slimey two-faced hypocrite . Wondering what his agenda was when I remembered that picture of him in full Orange bandsman regalia.

*wishart, who only played 9 games for deidco in 2 years the same with the calvinists in 1 season and same again with airdrie seems tae be a pattern here, has never stuck up for any of our players or staff.

  7. WITS is neither a board lover nor a board hater. Like most of us, he recognizes that the board have an onerous job to do in very difficult circumstances.

His comments are recognized by most as being a witty counter balance to those who constantly criticize the board but who offer no realistic alternative.

You seem to have upset some people. I enjoy your irony. Doesn’t mean I support everything Peter Lawell does. Please keep posting.

I thought the team were brilliant last night and that they played superb football. Great performances from so many, especially CalMac and TR. The wonderful Kieran Tierney received no protection from the referee and took a real kicking but he was immense. Ryan Christie (a very experienced SPL player) is replacing Stuart Armstrong. I love Lewis Morgan who will hopefully become one of our great player and I’ve run out of superlatives for Wee Jamesie. Lastly, a special thank you to Josefin Lustig for coming up with the idea of purchasing a pair of bionic legs from Amazon for husband PC Mikael.

  9. WITS Is just having a bit of craic, he is not a bad lad apart from being a sticky so leave him alone.

Has he not suffered enough? .

Ill come up with a better strategy as soon as you pay me the same as PL gets, you get nothing for free in this world (CQN’ers and the wider Celtic supports generosity apart). ill give you something for free though, id start by sticking up for the support everytime its merited.

Dbhoy…monitor away my friend…a task you will certainly not enjoy…alas, my posts are as boring as the current board talk…I endeavour not to get involved in that side of things…after a poor, worrying start to the season the lads seemed to have recovered their mojo…that alone, makes me a contented bhoy…

However, I won’t criticise anyone having a go at the board…not even the Jungle One…

Not for me though! There’s too much stress in the world without inviting even more into my limited cranium… :-)

I havent gone away you know !!!

But its meant to be light hearted banter to counter act some of the anti board nonsense

I have asked several times what would people do if they got Peter Lawwells job.Very few answers ,mainly they would be more transparent and tell Celtic fans what was going on …vis a vis The 5 way agreement, res 12 etc.

Thats reasonable .However there was also a post which accused him treason for not opposing the appointment of Campbell Ogilvie ..until it was pointed out that he had no choice as The SPL rules at the time meant that Ogilvie was unopposable. In fairness the poster ( Exiled Tim) took the rebuttal on the chin with good humour ( which is the way it should be)

On a serious note any time we drop a point, have a set back in Europe, fail in the transfer market there are howls of righteous indignation calling for Lawwells head.

He presides over one the most successful sporting institutions on the planet…..Lets get rid of him

    Cmon the 49ers

I saw Craig Gordon take that throw-in last night and I thought………sack Peter Lawwell…

  14. Coin throwing…..it would seem that before a club is fined proof would be needed which club the coin thrower supported before anything is done. Oh wait!!!!!!! poor linesman at the hun game got in the way of the coin. Last nights culprit wasnt a Hibernian fan could it possibly have been a hearts fan ????away now tae scratch ma heid.

  15. FAN-A-TIC,

There has been at least one today: from yourself, attacking WITS’ humourous contribution. It is utterly boring to many of us, I believe, as it is so repetitive and goes nowhere. Neither is it a new phenomenon: it is season after season, when we have mostly gone from strength to strength, on and off the park. That, of course, is in my opinion; others may not agree. Others, quite obviously, do not agree.

Again, imo, although I have NO inside knowledge (and never have had), Peter Lawwell is as good a CEO as we are likely to have. He carries out, as far as I understand it, Dermot Desmond’s wishes. Presumably any replacement would have to do the same.

As good and thrilling as last night’s performance was, account must be taken of the poor quality opposition.

However, as far as the game went, it was another top class performance, on the back of three previous domestic matches and therein lies the source of my Celtic happiness today.

Now if my daughter would just get a move on and safely deliver grandchild number 6, my cup will surely runneth over.

Below is mh brief summary of our last transfer window which doesn’t leave the reader guessing who is mostly at fault for weakening our team.

Losing quality players and replacing them with inferior players ( sometimes no replacement ) leads to inevitable results.

What a way to treat a manager who has won every domestic trophy available since he started with us.

  19. WHAT IS THE STARS on 1ST NOVEMBER 2018 2:15 PM

    And on a serious note

The team have been brilliant in the last few games

is that because SB was not playing.

  20. Others have rightly commented on all the great play from last night’s game. I would just like to add that I was delighted to see Kieran react so furiously to a tackle on one of our players and to tell the ref that he was not happy with the way things were being allowed to happen to our players, Welsh (was that his name) was only refereeing his fourth Premier League game this season. What was he doing the rest of the time…on a course on how to referee Celtic games the SPFL way?

Secondly, I agree wholeheartedly with TOSB that we are being seriously let down by sections of our fans who insist in singing pro IRA songs and chants, Many of them will have no idea about Irish history or of the efforts of so many valiant men and women to bring peace to Ireland.

The chanting about poppies only caused us to be seen in poor light by many people who have no interest in petty utterances from a group of lads who have no notion of how many of our supporters lost family in two World Wars or had, like myself, family members in prisoner of war camps.

I am not a poppy purchaser because I know that Haig caused millions of men and women to die because of his arrogance and ill conceived plans. Yes, I know that a certain new club use the poppy to promote sectarianism etc. But we should rise above that and remind ourselves of what Bro Walfrid set up. Those who promote any other view dishonour his name. When will they ever learn?

a succinct appraisal of our performance in the summer.

I think in our haste we forget (not all and not all the time) that PL works for Shareholders first and foremost, one in particular. Personally i think we should be even further ahead given the opportunities we have had.

When Rangers IL died so did the rivalry, though i still get satisfaction from seeing the “same fly’s” pain but never a 49’er

  22. Ron67

You’ve asked that question more than once now.

Do you honestly believe our recent upturn in performances across the whole team is down to leaving out just one player who happens to be our captain and arguably our most influential/consistent player of the last couple of seasons ?

Or are there a myriad of other factors that may have contributed?

I think we are a better with Scott Brown

We have done remarkably well without him but our success has been achieved not because of his absence but despite his absence

    and others,

I’d like to add my support to your post above.

    Especially this part:-

“,Many of them will have no idea about Irish history or of the efforts of so many valiant men and women to bring peace to Ireland”.

The war is over. Thirty years of death and destruction ended. No side won.

What is important now is securing and winning the Peace, from some who are determined to drag that part of our country back those dark days.

Irish history is not learned from a Wolf Tones back catalogue or from the Daily Telegraph.

Let the people of Ireland work out our future, free from moronic interjections from football attending people who don’t live on this island.

No representation without taxation, as the Boston Tea Party folk never said.

  25. I actually thought the second goal was the pick of the bunch – in terms of the build up. Watch again!

It starts with Craig nutmegging the forward and we pass right our of defense – great play. Arzani is very paddy like the way he runs with the ball.

*As I said they’ll be back the morra and BTW his name is Peter Lawwell.

In my posts i use the surnames of all the players so if you’re inferring a detrimental slant then it’s not true.

We all have opinions and have never stated anything personal about Lawell.

I have posted my opinion that his salary is to high in comparison to the clubs revenue.

Never been involved in the who signs debate or other stuff pertaining to him either.

His critics may or may not be back tomorrow but i only did what many do on here and asked for proof that they came on to slate him after last nights win.

Criticism is always easy when taken out of context.

  27. Scott Brown , for me, has been the mainstay of Celtic`s success over the last two seasons. In the odd game he missed, we looked leaderless and uncertain. We certainly looked a lesser team.

Now? Not so from my perspective. Calmac is now playing in roughly the same area of the park as Broonie occupied but creates much more than our Captain Fantastic did.

What was once unthinkable is soon going to give Brendan a headache. Does Broonie come straight back in when fit?

    Where did i attack Lawell?

As you could not back your statement you invent something?

WITS humor to you seems petty ,constant and spiteful to me and that was reason for my post to him.

I praised his support of Lawell but not his constant attacks on Celtic fans.

To add context i admitted i had posted that i thought Lawells remuneration was to high but nowhere did i criticise or attack him.

Was right next to the ‘drummer’ up the back, not one Celtic Song.
