Supporters Association launch at Holyrood

850

The Scottish Football Supporters’ Association (SFSA), an independent body of pan-club football fans, yesterday launched the first independent evaluation of Scottish football governance, at Holyrood.

The SFSA’s nationwide survey will assess, for the first time, supporters’ views on the current position of the game, including the performance of the game’s governing bodies in Scotland.  The research will become an annual benchmarking & reporting exercise looking at all aspects of the game.

The SFSA’s online survey has been created in partnership with Prof. Dr. Axel Faix and Dr. Joachim Lammert, two experienced German academics who have undertaken similar evaluations on a national level in Germany and on a European level.

The SFSA, whose board includes former First Minister Henry McLeish; former MP and MSP Cathy Jamieson and Maureen McGonigle, Founder of Scottish Women in Sport and first female Scottish FA Council Member, has over 67,000 members supporting clubs across Scotland.

The SFSA is Scotland’s fans’ representative in The Football Supporters Europe network (FSE), an independent, representative and democratically organised grass-roots network of football fans’ in Europe with members in currently 48 countries across the continent.

You have invited to Have Your Say by getting involved with the project here.

Most importantly, you can participate in the survey itself here.

  5. Hi Paul67,

Sounds like a great initiative, some prominent backers.

It would be great to have a Supporters Association that could bite as well as bark.

Those at The SFA have been getting away with running a corrupt, incompetent organisation for far too long.

There is of course numerous other issues that Scottish Football has to deal with.

It’s been Seven years since Henry McLeish published his report… Scottish Football was in desperate need of positive reform.

The last Five and possibly the Five before that, the Authorities were dealing with the “Scotland needs a Strong Rangers” policy.

To the detriment of the whole of Scottish Football (including Rangers, may I add).

I get joining and surveying over the weekend.

Reading UEFA Disciplinary Findings it seems certain breaches appear to be a statutory fine; Fireworks = €19,000 this season – blocking of passageways circa €6,000 (or multiples depending on numbers?).

I note the SFA have been fined for blocked passageways (between their ears?)!

Interesting as to what the Media deem to be headline news outwith Scotland. Liverpool were subject to Disciplinary Findings in every round up to and including the Europa Final. They and Manchester United were both fined €40,000 for illicit chanting (at each other) during their Old Trafford tie and €17,000 each for; fireworks and throwing objects.

Liverpool were given 30 days to reach agreement with MU over payment of damages to the away section (seats/ toilets).

In fairness to the Celtic Board – very few Clubs take it to appeal (those that have did no better than get a fine reduction). Barca (supposed UEFA favourites) took the Catalan Flag display fine as far as CAS but withdrew their appeal.

It’s a UEFA money making competition – you either play by their rules (with all its foibles) or you don’t take part!

Was able to buy a ticket online for the season opener against Hearts, but it was painful and I wasn’t able to select my seat. Now, i don’t have a problem sitting where there’s any available seat – just happy to get one at all, but unless i got the last ticket for this game, then i should have been able to select which seat i wanted.

the product on the park has definitely improved, but when it comes to accessing other products – online ticketing, Celtic TV, the product is definitely not up to scratch. I would hope for improvements, but won’t be holding my breath.

I seem to remember some mention of a reply to PSNI’s statement being held back until after the 2nd leg. it’s all gone a bit quiet since the issues around banners, scarves and bibs started hogging the headlines.

For the hand wringers who deliberately mis-represented what I said last night about Celtic’s foundation and Br wolfed, here is exactly what I wrote:

DD, great to meet up with you and ACGR last night; pity Hot Smoked wisnae there!

Just a wee thought on all those criticising the Celtic Support bringing politics (Irish politics at that) into Celtic Park; if it wisnae for Irish Politics Celtic wouldn’t exist, and I’m reminded of that everytime I go to St Mary’s for Mass and see that wonderful mosaic just inside the door commemorating the founding of Celtic Football Club in that Parish in 1887.

We were built upon politics; we were built upon the Irish Diaspora. It’s in our DNA. If we remove that, we move our heritage and are no longer Celtic Football Club.

    UTLR

    KTF

At no time did I suggest that this was tantamount to Br Walfrid sanctioning the IRB, the IRA, PIRA, the Real IRA or any other para-military organisation; or their deeds. I wouldn’t dream of making a statement on what he would or would not support, although I have my own views on it.

However, I stand by what I said. Irish politics is in our DNA and should not be removed; it’s why the Club was founded and we should always be proud of and take note of that. The politics of poverty still drives a lot of what the Celtic Foundation and Supporters groups do today (our own CQN and Mary’s Meals for example).

IMHO, to deny that is to deny the very essence of the Club. As it is often said, Celtic are more than just a club!

Linfield fans shouldn’t have been in the stadium

UEFA ask that away fans are asked to stay behind

When Griff tied the scarf players where doing the ‘warm down’ on the park. That doesn’t happen immediately after the final whistle

There is absolutely no way he should have Ben booked and any sane appeals panel would agree..

  25. BLANTYRETIM @ 12:31 PM,

Thanks for the reply. It’s unfortunate we could not appeal Griffiths Yellow – the officials apparently couldn’t tell Celtic at the end of the game what it was for. The retrospective things that came to light, ie The 5-1 gesture and the scarf would not have been in the Referees report presumably.

Watching that match, I saw two completely different performances from the Referee in the first and second halves, it struck me that UEFA had decided we were not going to stuff Linfield in their own back yard during that “glorious” week.

Too much of a risk they could get ugly…

In general terms with UEFA’s pernickery rules backed up by strict liability it’s always going to be difficult to mount a defence against their charges.

You get the feeling it’s a revenue stream as much as a Disciplinary Code.

Sion made a point of standing up to them… it didn’t end well (didn’t start that great either actually:).

So you have to determine how much resources we throw at defending these charges.

But as far as Griff tying the scarf round the Linfield Goalpost and TGB banner at Celtic Park, they for me are own goals that give UEFA our head on a platter.

By getting “officially” punished for these we allow the Banana Monkey Tribe to take the Moral high Ground… this is seriously detrimental to our credibility when we are looking for support and solidarity in our attempt to seek a Review of the SPL Commission.

Playground finger pointing whatabouterie, the Uni Ultras made an .rse of it simple as that, we’ve long enough in Europe ffs to know how they operate, and the Uni Ultras know how UEFA operates too, so imo those defending them for doing something they knew was wrong to me seems silly, the Uni Ultras knew exactly what would happen, same as they have previous for, remember the match the fine CON, they don’t care about fines, closed door games, closed sections, that’s what they want, don’t you get that, they want Celtic Park shut down to suit they’r agenda, laugh you may, but the Ultras won’t pay.
