Supporting your ex, hurting the one you love, ballsy Ashley

892

I’ve plenty of sympathy for Niall McGinn for coming under pressure after being spotted at the Kilmarnock-Celtic game on Monday, but not in any way distressed.  Players watch former clubs all the time, it’s not even remotely an issue, but Niall is experiencing the cost of playing in a team at the top of the league.  Aberdeen fans would neither notice nor care where he was on Monday if they were in their usual mid-table spot.

A taste of internecine strife does more damage than any external party could ever hope to inflict.  Glad to hear it’s taken route at our nearest rivals.  On a similar note…….

A serious bid to bring newco Rangers to its knees got into full swing yesterday, as thousands of ‘fans’ signed up to spend not a penny more with the club, while mock-Rangers jerseys (should that be mock-mock-Rangers?), sold by fans’ groups, were profiled in the media.

If you know your history, 20 years ago a group of Celtic fans, some working on the frontline, some working behind the scenes, orchestrated the Celts for Change campaign, which ultimately brought regime change at Celtic.

Celts for Change had two fundamental factors in their favour: people with access to the money required to resolve the club’s problems were among them, while those running Celtic did not have access to significant funds, personal or otherwise.

The lessons of Celts for Change is that before you hurt the club you love: make sure you are capable of laying a glove on those you are trying to damage, and when you bring things to a head, ensure you have the money to put things right.  In newco’s case this will be many tens of millions.

I backed Celts for Change and I wholeheartedly back those who are trying to bring down newco.  Their plans and foresight are exceptional.

Care to guess which Scottish club has been most active in the transfer market this month?  Falkirk, who have signed their fifth player.  They have won six of their last seven games and are now within a win of getting into a play-off spot.  Hot tip for the play-offs: Falkirk, Hibs, Queen of the South and Ross County.

What about Mike Ashley yesterday appointing Duff & Phelps as administrators to one of his companies?  Just in case you think he’s not ballsy.

  1. I cannot believe those who don’t rate VVD. he is easily the best centre back I have seen at Celtic since Paul Elliot, he is very fast, very skillful and great in the air. Would you rather sell him for what, maybe 8 million pounds then buy a load of dross? We should be attempting to keep our best players for as long as possible. Being left with Efe Ambrose and our only other centre back O’Connell fills me with dread to be honest.

  2. Serious discussion being aired and seriously adult treatment it’s getting, hail hail CQN

Part of the PL selling Celtic to these players like Virgil and Victor is that we are a stepping stone to EPL

  5. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

    A bit of trivia.

14 players who have all scored against the now defunct club at Celtic Park, Hampden & Ibrox while playing for us?

I have to go out to collect my daughter but will give the answers around ten o’clock tonight.

  6. Jeromek67 I’m afraid you are in the twilight zone. Vvd becomes a bad player, like commons, cos of the desire to make money. Various board cheerleaders then join in. Either to claim we are in financial distress or the player is rubbish.

There is no real mention now of selling and reinvesting (as we once debated on cqn) cos reality is we sell and don’t buy.

It’s all nonsense, lies, deceit and propaganda.

    I’m afraid that’s modern cqn………

I only deliberately watch Celtic, I don’t switch on a sports competition on the telly and I don’t go out my way to watch or see any sport, really couldn’t give a monkeys if it’s not Celtic, make the noise and blah lip-service social convention but couldn’t give one if its no the bhoys. Is that what they mean by Celtic daft ?

    Virgil is a class act.

The longer he graces the fitba pitches in Scotland wearing the hoops, the happier I’ll be.

He was a class act for us as well, and I was happy while he graced the fitba pitches in Scotland wearing the hoops.

  22. Burghbhoy,

On the subject of football in general

I make every effort to see Celtic at home at Celtic Park and away games on the T.v as for other matches if they are on the tv I might catch a glimpse but lose no sleep over whether I see them or not, making no concerted effort to see any epl games at all , overhyped, overpriced overfunded imo

I’m a football fan and watch football all the time, I wanted Athletico to beat Madrid last night for instance but only time I get involved or excited is if Celtic are playing.

The rest are for entertainment value

I maybe wrong but I don’t watch soaps or reality TV preferring documentary or history programmes.

I think we all believe that VvD will move on, either now or in the summer.

If it is the summer, then we are back to scrambling around before the presumed qualifiers.

If it is now, then we should either have a replacement in, or accommodated the position from within.

If that is true, then, bye bye Virgil.

  26. Jungle Jim Hot Smoked on

Maybe I have forgotten but I really do not remember Victor receiving a great deal of praise while he was with us. I wondered is Virgil was a one season wonder. I now believe he is the business.

  27. So this American Billionaire is going to come in, pump millions, if not even squillions, of pounds into the sleeping giant that is Sevco and we are going to be left behind? We should be very very afraid because just last week the same posters were saying this was Ashley’s plan too. We are doomed they have two Billionaires ready to pump millions into them to blow us away.

Aye right on and in other news NASA have confirmed the moon is indeed made of cheese, and that’s why they had to fake the landings as they couldn’t find a big enough piece of toast in case the jet engines melted it. :-)

not watching anyone but celtic –

reminds me of a younger mate who was a smashing footballer

he belatedly played with the local juniors and then to the richer juniors but didnt fancy the style of football
