Technical review needed after Real game

882

The trip to the US to play Real Madrid is core to strategy for Celtic right now.  It allowed the significant North American support an easier opportunity to see the team, keeps the club’s profile high among the game movers and shakers and will have contributed valuable financial resources.

You know there’s a ‘but’ coming, don’t you.

Gary Hooper, Anthony Stokes and Daryl Murphy all picked up or aggravated strains on the trip.  The players are still stepping up their fitness regimes.  Muscles are being stressed, then rested, then stresses a little further.  Returning from two lengthy flights with a high incidence of non-contact injuries suggests we need to review how we prepare athletes for travel.

Do you like the new-look Celtic Quick News?  Some fundamental changes have engineered into the back-end which should make things more solid going forward.  More new features will come on-stream shortly.  My enormous thanks to Kev, who designed the template and everything new in the engine room.

Don’t forget, if you have an article in you for CQN Magazine email me: articles@cqnmagazine.co.uk and let me know what you would like to write about. I’ll be able to give you some pointers. Next edition coming soon.

If that is an excellent riposte to Socialism, Socialism has nothing to fear.

It is a confused ragbag of dimly-perceived ideas, half-truths, downright lies and non sequiturs, wrapped up in an agenda, and slathered in pseudo-intellectual posturing.

It reminded me of my seven-year-old girl trying to explain why she doesn’t like boys.

‘If the Tartan Army really cared about the football rather than glogging up Glasgow Airport at busy times and just drinking in European cities then they would have organised a boycott of the Scottish games until the SFA get their fingers out and deal with Sevco’

Well said that man. Starting with the WC qualifier at home to Serbia next month would have sent Ogilvie + Reagan into fits of apoplexy

But the TA don’t really care about Scottish football. As long as they can get their away day booze fests that’s all that counts

  12. HT,

    Hope you are well,

Re strikers with pace and ability to attack the ball in the box …that also requires bravery.

All of our strikers wait for the ball to come to them , rather than , as you say , attack the ball.

I can’t ever imagine any of our current lot scoring the goal that McGarvey did against Madrid (?), or the McAvennie goal at Hampden

IMHO a striker who was brave enough to attack the ball would be worth an incremental 5 / 6 goals a season , which , forgive me for getting carried away , could be 15 points in the league, a couple of Euro home wins etc

My daughter also starts high school and her first game was also Phil’s testamonial.

She has been following in her mother’s shadow for the first 12 years of her life, until last month she asked her mum if it was alright to get a ST for CP.

Her mother was aghast! She isn’t into football in any way, and spends most of her time shopping in Glasgow taking my daughter with her.

She feels as if she has lost her!

I have to admit that I didn’t see it coming either. A rather pleasant surprise though.

So, she got her ticket and now wants to know when she can go to her first away trip in Europe!

    I love her to bits!

A big lump in the throat when she suits up for big school.

Earlier today I posted correspondence between myself and the Scottish Government re governance of the SFA.

    http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/?p=10105&cpage=4#comments

I have since replied as follows.

    Dear Mr X

Any reader of my letter and your reply would conclude that you did not read the original and so failed to address the main thrust of how the government could find ways to use its expertise of government to make an unaccountable organisation accountable.

However on reflection based on the reply, perhaps I over estimated the degree of government “expertise” that the Scottish Government is able to bring to bear, or perhaps the Government simple has no political stomach to address the issue of proper checks and balances in governance at the SFA, for reasons that escape me as a lifelong taxpayer.

I find this even more surprising when you mention the taxpayers money that the SFA get from the Scottish Government, the same SFA who failed to police one of their members to ensure they met their tax obligations. I would have thought that in these days of financial constraint handing taxpayers money over to an organisation that are accountable to no one would be a matter for investigation and an opportunity to set standards of governance at the receiving organisation.

I do not accept that fear of what UEFA or FIFA might do if the Government decided to intervene (I prefer facilitate) as a justifiable excuse for Government inaction. I do not remember either Mr Blatter or Mr Platini standing for election as an MSP and am surprised our government allows itself to be governed by unelected and so unaccountable external bodies. Serious constitutional problems there methinks.

The SFA receive support from the Scottish taxpayer and that means they are accountable to the tax payer, Their failure to prevent a massive loss to the taxpayer cannot be ignored at times when every pound is precious and the Scottish Government’s reluctance to ask questions is a derelection of duty to the tax payer.

I am sure I will not be the only voter seeing the “do nothing” policy of the existing Government in this way and lets say it is a close run thing between the SFA and Scottish Government in a two horse race for the Banana Republic trophy.

Hiya mate I’m fine hope you are well.

I think you’ve maybe summed up my opinion but only better :-)

Within my post was the implication that our current strikers by not attacking the ball in the manner of the others that I mentioned , were in fact lacking ‘courage’.

We need someone with the determination and will to get their head on crosses into the box. Presently we don’t seem to have a forward who will do that.

Gene Pitney was in a cafe close to a motel in an unspecified destination.

If he was prepared to drive flat out at an average 60mph, he could be nearly 1,500 miles away which would place him in Miami possibly.

Given that he was being unfaithful with a girl, my guess is he was doing ok in Muskogee :-)
