That’s all folks!

The defence has seen most additions. Jozo Simunovic, Saidy Janko and Dedryck Boyata arrived, with Tyler Blackett on loan from Manchester United. Belgian, Logan Bailly, came in as our backup keeper after a decent career in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland.

Two attacking midfielders were signed: Scott Allan, who has made a couple of cameo appearances, and Ryan Christie, who will further gestate in Inverness until the end of the season.

Nadir Ciftci was the manager’s primary striking target, and although he arrived early in the window, his start has been hampered by a six game domestic ban, while the Champions League qualifiers arrived too early for him. A lot of store is being placed on his and Leigh Griffiths’ shoulders.

Will they be stronger than the Griffiths, Scepovic, Guidetti offering of last season? Will they be good enough for the challenge ahead? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen (and opposed to send me inappropriately emotional messages).

I read lots of comment about Steven Fletcher or and Michu potentially coming to Celtic over the last few days. They were players who Celtic enquired about earlier in the window but neither was interested in coming to Scotland. They are in the league they want to play in, we were not remotely on their radar.

Oh, and the van Dijk deal was for £13m, not the £11.5m reported earlier. Think we might have some Fraser/Victor reflected value in this deal.

That’s all folks!

  1. Do you want diversity of opinion….or conformity?

There’s no need to insult people who disagree with the PLC strategy.

Just ask them to leave the blog…simple.

Then you can all agree about everything.

Given that Man Utd have just spent an amount similar to our entire turnover on a 19yr old player described as “very raw” and a “prospect”. How would you go about getting us to the top.

It’s what we all would like but I’ve yet to see anybody come up with a plan.

The only person I’ve seen make any suggestions as to how we can maximise our income (giving more money for transfers) is BRTH. Even then I doubt the increased income would do more than bringing us up to break even in the SPL with our current squad.

Everybody here want to see Celtic be the best it can be but like or not we are constrained by the income we can generate.

  3. Morning all.

Surprised that Martin Odegaard(sp) did not join on loan.

You can never have too many midfielders in your team.

    …or maybe you can?!

They won’t for the reasons I have explained.

No one wanted their super players in the summer. Why was that?

Celtic are good enough to win the league at the very least in Scotland and only Celtic have the financial ability to improve their squad in January if they need to as they did last year getting in Armstrong and GMS to give us the advantage we needed.

We’d already beaten the same Aberdeen team twice with 10 men on one occasion without those two players.

The only player they have who has improved them is Shinnie. That is not enough over a season.

apologies – I meant 17 more than Celtic….given 12 points lost to celtic – it’s easy to see how if they hadn’t how different the league outcome could have been.

My point is – beating Aberdeen will be harder this year and could impact the tiltle outcome.

There may be a few ‘free agent’ strikers out there who are not necessarily free because they are rubbish or past it. I would take either of the ones you mentioned. Hopefully we may be looking at this kind of possibility as we are light in this department.

Does the lawyer submitting a standard security for registration in the Land Register not have to sign a declaration that everything about the title is Kosher and there’s no reason to think it could be challenged?

  8. TIMALOY29 @ 11 32.

” Samaras is still a free agent ”

For what it is worth the Italian Fitba Pink reported that Samaras failed a medical at Sampdoria.Stated reason was ” a back problem “

I don’t argue with what you say.

But…im not an economist or financial guru.

    I take a broader view.

In football, generally, internal change within clubs is standard procedure.

I cannot understand why people are so resistant to change…when all is said and done, if things don’t seem to be going well….we make changes….that is football.

I believe it will get a lot worse, before it gets better.

If the PLC continue the way they are going….there will indeed be change.

I believe Celtic should be doing a lot better.

We cannot continue in the same vein.

In many respects, it would be best for most concerned if the assets were eventually repatriated to BDO, and a new entity subsequently bought them and set up a new, clean club.

In the rush to have a “Rangers at any cost” in 2012, no one involved stopped to consider what that cost might prove to be. Certainly the fans of the old club, those to whom the old club meant most, were side-lined, marginalised and manipulated. Had they been given the time and space to start over, things would have worked out differently, but it seems that commercial interests and ‘continuity’ were more important than good judgement.

Commercial interests and continuity remain the motivators for those who are responsible for protecting and fostering the Game, and for protecting it from abuses.

Hell in a handcart springs to mind.

  12. Cultsbhoy,

I think the games against them will be tougher too. But I would do. I thought we had fairly comfy performances against them last season.

The only sticky one being when they scored first and had a man advantage.

  13. the glorious balance sheet on

I heard he was dead 1140-

Fair point on the ex Dundee Utd lads giving Aberdeen problems, you`re right, I think all three of them might have scored against Aberdeen last season for Utd.

I still dont think there`s much of a gap in quality between the forwards in both teams, though we unquestionably have the edge in midfield.

Where Aberdeen do have a weakness in my view is in mentality. They downed tools in the league in 13/14 after they won the League Cup after being in decent form all season up until then. They were a clear 2nd in the league but thought by winning the cup that the job for the season was done, and I think they maybe won one more league game after that before being pipped to 2nd spot by Motherwell.

They did something similar last season as well after being put out the Scottish Cup by Dundee and the League Cup by Utd, things seemed to go a bit flat. But they are improving year on year I think.

It has all the makings of a right good game at Pittodrie, they’ll try to make it a physical battle, I`d like to see Griffiths and Ciftci get the chance to play as a partnership in that one (but cant see it happening).

  15. The Green Man,

I know you didn’t accuse me of anything, and I didn’t write that in my comments.

Your post at 10.51 appeared to accuse others of creating division on this blog. My post of 11.02 asked you if that was the case – the first part of my post was a separate reply to JJHS, on a separate issue.

JJHS has not been involved in this discussion at all.

It looks to me like you’ve read back and thought JJHS and not me posted the question and you subsequently addressed your reply to JJHS.

Anyway, if you were accusing others of creating division, I think it’s a bit rich to say the least as I think your posts create division without offering anything constructive.

What’s your ideas for what we should be doing instead of what we are doing? Put forward your argument, try to convince me and I’ll read it. It’ll be a much better thing than just saying the same thing over and over again. People switch off and ignore you if you just repeat yourself, endlessly.

    Anyway,

  16. over the last 3 years i’ve read most stuff available on the secvo saga, mainly here and phils blog and also his book ‘downfall’

one thing that i’ve never been able to understand is how Green got his hands on everything for just 5.5 million, where did this valuation come from.?

  17. !!Bada Bing!!,

Yes, but I think he could be helped with another senior player or two.

The average age of teams of qualified for UCL was around 27, while we were about 23. Maybe we can get that next January, but the EL is a tournament we should be having a crack at.

Given the Malmo game, I’m not sure we’re in a position to do that.

  18. CultsBhoy on 2nd September 2015 11:06 am

I don’t see how you can say that? They dropped 5 points ignoring games against us. And you say they’ve improved? What are we to do in your opinion? If they win all their games bar the 4 vs us this year then what? Is that our fault?

If they do that and it comes down to 4 games (presuming we acheive a tall order for any team and win all our games) then we’ll be lucky to win the league. You couldn’t ask for a tighter title race even with the uglies at the height of their cheating and spending of tax-payers money.

  19. Well if big Simunovic turns out to be as good as, or better than VVD there’s going to be some red-faced, greetin’-faced clueless mineshafters on here going by the morning’s ANAL-ysis.

If only PL and RD had turned to CQN before committing £8 Million of Celtic’s hard-earned then they’d have realised all those targets that took months of dilligent negotiation to acquire were, in the certified opinions of knowledgeable keyboard experts, ‘pish’…
