That’s not an outbreak of Tourettes you hear

715

No, that’s not an outbreak of Tourettes across small patches in the west of Scotland, it is the long-suffering Newco fans realisation that their board have been breathtakingly incompetent in their attempts to recruit a manager.

In many respects, briefing the media ahead of their two games against Aberdeen and an AGM that Derek McInnes would be installed at Ibrox this week, had the desired effect. The players were sufficiently motivated to out-perform Aberdeen, while Dave King got through the AGM on a nod and a wink. The falsehood of the assertion, however, will surely come at a cost. King will hope that memories fade before he has to face fans again in 51 weeks.

My immediate reaction when I read the ridiculous statement from Newco last night was that their hilarious PR system was at the keyboard while jaked. They spend six weeks targeting McInnes, then, after he rejected them, claimed this was evidence he was not up to the job.

An obscure phrase was used, “concomitant risk”, instead of the more common “associated risk”. There’s a fair bit of research into why people unnecessarily use complex and obscure words instead of simpler alternatives. None of it is flattering.

I assumed the statement was the work of Newco’s shamlessly-brilliant PR operation, but a studious CQN’er emailed this clip of Dave King’s AGM speech last year.

4 minutes 29 seconds in he states they should: “run an operating deficit, without a concomitant event risk that could lead to a repeat of the last few years”. Last night’s statement has Dave’s tones all over it.  Fewer and fewer people compliment the emperor on his new outfit.

A big thanks to teams two and three in the league, who have damaged their positions and/or humiliated themselves, while Celtic have extended their lead at the top of the table.

  4. That’s it bhoys, the league race is back on. Defeated the mighty Ross County. Three in a row here they go. They dodged a bullet when Dek chickened out taking the reigns. Murty is the new Wattie. Only four points behind us. Fester Fester is in seventh heaven. Numpty Silly Billy’s.

There is a food bank collection before our game at Easter Road tomorrow.

Paul Larkin has tweeted about it . The organisers, as well as Paul, are hoping both sets of supporters can contribute what they are able to before the game , tomorrow.

  15. I’ve been Xmas shopping in Glasgow with my younger Bro and unfortunately timed it with a home game for Sevco.

Heard the usual “songs” during the day including their version of The Killers. You know the one “we hate Catholics”. Almost got into a fight after hearing that.

Anyway, it was worth it for this quote I heard on the train home. This isn’t a joke:-

“If it wasn’t for the games against Hamilton and Dundee, we would be top of the league right now”.

I couldn’t stop myself bursting out laughing at that. Hunbelievable.

Feel i have caught you ‘flu bug thingy too, cannot shake the bloody thing off no matter what I try. Been feeling really merde for almost two weeks now with no signs of improvement.

Anyway, maybe it’s that I’m a bit flat at the moment but I have a funny strange feeling in my water about tomorrow and feel we are going to lose our unbeaten run. Can’t put my finger on but the feeling will not budge from my pea sized brain. Gone over all the logical stuff, better players, better manager and better fans but still the feeling will not go away. Hopefully in 24 hours I will be wrong again, but if we do lose tomorrow I couldn’t think of a better team to do that, and release some pressure.

Hope I’m wrong, probably am and we’ll win by a barra load.

  25. Marilyn Monroe , Stevie Nicks , Debbie Harry and Claire Grogan ! Must be Saturday night on here !!

  26. BlueGrass Celt: re Packie Bonnar’s father in law (from last night).

There is a theee part documentary currently running on TG4 on Thursday nights called Bus Ghlaschú which charts the history of bus travel between Donegal and Glasgow.

Packie featured on The second episode and he told how he was welcomed into his future wife’s Rangers (IL) supporting family. Once they married, her father followed Packie to home and away matches throughout his Celtic career. Packie describes him as a ‘neutral’ Celtic supporter. There was no mention of the orange order.

Another person featured on the documentary was a woman (Mary, I think) who emigrated to Glasgow as a teenager. She worked as a clippie on the buses and fell in love with a Glasgow chap who supported R(IL). She loved Celtic and still attends matches as often as she can despite her tender years. Anyway, after eight years they got engaged and then one evening he came home to tell her he had joined the orange order. She broke it off with him immediately and never got back with him.

The last episode in the series will be on TG4 next Thursday at 8pm.
