The annual preseason youth breakthrough

230

The long road to fitness started in Austria last night as Celtic gave an outing to 19 players against Wiener Viktoria.  This time of year always provides an interesting angle on the young talent waiting to breakthrough, often to be overlooked until the following year’s preseason tour.

Last night 19-year-olds Johnny Kenny, who joined in January from Sligo Rovers, and Bosan Lawal, who joined a year ago from the Watford youth setup, did most to pique interest.  Let’s hope Kenny can fight off the fierce competition from Albian Ajeti for the third striker spot.  Having only just turned 17, Rocco Vata seems worth keeping tabs on.

Getting to the point in their career that they are making a Celtic debut is a huge achievement for Kenny, Lawal, Vata and Matthew Anderson, the 18-year-old full back who played last night.  The fallout rate of signed youth players before this point must be close to 99%.

The challenge ahead, to become a Celtic regular, remains daunting.  It is as much a challenge for the coaches as the players.

`Keir Starmer is not my choice of leader but I understand why we needed a centrist or right wing figure. He has to produce policies which can survive “monstering” `

Surely the only policies which would survive ` monstering` would very un-socialist policies?

If our youth set up was in any way half way decent they would not have left.

Or more accurately the vast majority would have stayed.

Our failings have been public knowledge in youth football for years.

The TFOD1.0 implosion covered it up for a couple of years.

Our biggest issue is that it has been getting worse.

We are now failing in the basics as well as the coaching.

Attitude / application — have been very poor recently @ KDS / comments this year.

Now that AP is working the B team a lot harder.

Hopefully he can cast his eye over the youth set up.

It can be done — all that is needed is energy / imagination / hard work / a strong narrative.

TB / GB made huge progress from 1997 till 2010 — even though he was a bit of a fearty..

The difficulty is moving from slogans to real world solutions.

BoJo was caught out time and time again with this.

Progressive opinion / socialist opinion needs to learn this at the double.

  4. a guy on the internet says that celtics youth coaches are failing

    yawn.

  5. Politician approval ratings — nobody in the positives.

That is probably the reason for the lack of political progress in the UK.

If you hate everybody then you end up hating yourself.

A society only gets the politicians that it deserves.

Politicians only hold up a mirror to the public.

I fear that the public does not like what it sees.

Could be a growing global problem.

If the public struggle to take politics seriously then why should the politicians.

To me the biggest growing area of public consciousness is conspiracy theories.

    And the wackier the better.

    Plus Love Island …

The effort that is put in to try understand that *hite shames the younger generation.

And a lot of the older generation — men with no body hair / women with blow up lips.

Results in the SPL U18 league prove that it is failing.

    It wasn’t just the media.

It was the Blairite old guard and their acolytes within the Labour Party who preferred to see a Tory government to a Corbyn led government.

Remember this, from Epstein’s pal, Lord Mandleson?

“Why do you want to just walk away and pass the title deeds of this great party over to someone like Jeremy Corbyn? I don’t want to, I resent it, and I work every single day in some small way to bring forward the end of his tenure in office.

“Something, however small it may be – an email, a phone call or a meeting I convene – every day I try to do something to save the Labour party from his leadership.”

  12. Youth Academy is not there to provide results in age group football matches, that is the wrong measurement.

The real KPI is player development.

What positions is Ange talking about when he says we could do with some additions?

Midfield is a given. The other?

    …………………………..

Most people seem to agree that he’s looking for a left footed central defender. The wise money seems to indicate that Jullienn will leave when he can find another club. Starfelt whom I like is very right footed and is awkward when receiving the ball from Joe Hart when playing on the left side of our central defence.

I think Ange might also be looking for another striker as both Kyogo and Giakoumakis were both out for lengthy periods last term and Ange would probably like to have more options for this role.

  17. I remember back in the 60s/70s someone at Celtic (can’t remember who) said that the purpose of the Reserve Team was to produce one player per season for the First Team. I wonder if thinking on this remains similar today.

  18. Not a popular view I know, though I think AuldHeid shares part of it at least, but part of the problem has been our obsession with a top league of ten or twelve clubs. Rooted in the mid 70s and benefitting from players available from previous set-up (which was a concoction of schools, amateur and professional football) it has long since past its’ sell by date. We need a league which enables more players to play competitively at a higher level regularly and this is most definitely not a B league, or be found in Academies, but an SPL of 18 clubs, a guaranteed minimum income for each, with as many reserve teams as possible, playing each other twice a season. I know all the arguments against it, but the fact is the status quo is not working in terms of developing footballers, not even for Celtic, its greatest club.

It will depend on what browser you are using, I think it was Ernie who posted a link to what a browser is and does, without knowing what you are using I would just be telling you porkies.

Anytime you register to a site and enter your details, a pop up will appear asking if you want to save the settings etc, if you say yes, that’s where all your passwords will be.

I am not the person to help tho, I am much the same as your good self, efin clueless, I found this out by trial and error a while back.

  20. Big Jimmy, you can have a YouTube ID with it’s own password (not your email password, unless that’s also the word you used). From the login page, it might give you the option of creating a new password and would send this to your linked account (email to email account).

  22. Big bad mega rich EPL teams are swooping for our best young prospects.

Unpalatable as it may be, we need to consider the Brentford route. Especially when you consider Brentford had one of the best academies in Englandshire.
